Alas, poor Murts I knew him well.
Actually, I don’t.
What I do know is that he was a decent guy in the wrong movie.
Charles of Normandy founded the new club in the summer of 2012 from the body parts of Rangers.
Since then Sevco has chewed up anyone who has been the manager.
Of course, Super Salary TUPEd over and that didn’t end well.
Then Kenny McDowall was briefly in the hot seat.
As Hibernian battered Sevco 4-0 the expression on his face told the entire saga.
It was that of a rabbit with anxiety disorder looking straight at the headlights of a thousand vehicle convoy…
Once more, a decent guy in the wrong movie.
In the school of bad decisions, he should have remained at Celtic where he was well looked after.
Andrew Stuart Murray McCall was called in by the Sevco High Command to steady the ship and get the basket of assets into the top flight.
He failed.
It was time for someone with a magic touch.
Or a magic hat.
The Admirable Warburton was hailed as the man to propel Sevco to greatness.
The ex-City trader was hailed as the new Ibrox messiah.
Thanks to the efforts of Heated Driveway Productions in April 2016 it looked briefly as if he might be able to overtake Celtic.
However, some of the official Sevco party at Hampden that day Hibbsed it.
Taunting Dermot Desmond wasn’t really a good idea in retrospect.
When Mr Magic Hat turned on the TV to find out that his job had gone for a Warburton it was time for young Master Murts to step up.
Against all expectations, he managed a very creditable draw at Celtic Park against Brendan Rodgers’ Invincibles.
When the ex-Reading legend stepped down to made way for Senhor Pedro Miguel Faria Caixinha and the calamity caravan.
As ever the stenographers were gushing and adhered to their high-Level instructions.
Both Caixinha and Warburton had been hired, at least in part, for non-footballing reasons.
The Sevco High Command hoped that the former would access investors in the Middle East and the latter was believed to be able to open doors in the City.
Unfortunately, despite being in possession of that magic hat he couldn’t find a way to open defences with any regularity.
When the Admirable Warburton found out via Sky that he had resigned it was time for young Master Murts to step up.
Then he did so again last October when the caravan left Govan.
For the avoidance of doubt, The People are still barking.
It was expected to be only a brief second sojourn for Murty.
However, it was extended when Derek McInnes and his people looked under the Ibrox hood in February.
The Dons boss then decided that Sevco rather, like the Ibrox clientele, was best avoided…
And now Murts is no more.
I really do hope, for his sake and that of his family, that Mr Gerrard is paying attention.
Perhaps his current indecision could lead to something utterly tragic and Shakespearean.

I just noticed this story on the Daily Ranger, surely this is beyond propaganda and completely at odds with previous reporting of the situation regarding Sevco relieving Murty of his position after the 5-0 humbling… https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/graeme-murty-quits-rangers-jus-12458646
Wonder if Gerrard will comment on his situation whilst doing his BT gig tonight?
If as reported he won’t be turning to the DOF for player recommendations then whats the use of a DOF?
There’s a possible conflict before he’s in the door.
If Murty and Pedro were being labeled dirty taigs and worse what are the staunchest of the staunch going to make of Gerrard who travelled to Seville off his own bat to shout on the Hoops?
One thing in his favour will be his role as captain of most Rangers fans favourite international team, Engerland.
I wonder if Dalglish has been the middle man introducing Gerrard to King?
They were in close proximity at the CL match last week and looked the best of pals.
If Gerrards reps do their own homework on the man from the Milk there is a ton of evidence to suggest that, in addition to his criminal record, his word is definitely not his bond.
With Brendan aiming to improve the squad for next season the task for any Rangers manager is monumental.
No doubt Gerrard sees what he wants to see and that the Rangers job will propel him onto the back pages of the national press overnight.
Thats the upside. Likely failure will see his managerial career fall apart before it’s properly started and as with The Hat, Pedro and Murty it will get very, very ugly, very quickly and his background will be front and centre.
Perhaps he should turn up at Ibrox incognito on Saturday and get a feel first hand of the environment he’s preparing to move his family into!
Remember when Gerrard flirted with Chelsea in 2014, but remained at Liverpool?
All logic and common sense suggests that Gerrard will find out what McInnes found out. Or at very least he will stumble across just one of four or five facts that would alert any waking human with managerial career aspirations to the chasm gaping before him.
But ever the optimist, I still hold out hope that he will miss everything – or find out but somehow not realise the significance – and sign on the dotted line.
The media attention he would generate would turn what has hitherto been Rangers’ private shame into an extreme and glaringly-lit ongoing public humiliation.
After all, the English press will not confine their reportage within the limits of Mr Traynor’s fantasy world. Although I must admit, the mere sight of Jocular Jim putting Stevie G humiliatingly in his place at press conferences will be worth the admission fee alone!
“What are you puttin’ oan that squeaky scouse voice for? Speak normal! Normal voice – say what I tell you to say – and say Nothing More. Not… another… word.”
C’mon Stevie – sign on the line – just for the lulz !!
Confused at why Gerrard is even thinking about managing Rangers. Mayby ten years ago it was an attractive prospect but can’t see the benefit of him joining to have to cut costs and still try to keep up with Celtic.
The silence from the Ibrox dunghill tells everything. No answer to speculation that G Murty was unwelcome in the Hun dressing room whilst the Hun were being educated. No press conference after the education. No reference to the storm troopers assault on the player of the year awards. No update on S Gerard situation. No information on King Con’s strategy in dealing with the TOP. Sweet FA. Imagine coughing up for a season ticket to be kept in the dark…even mushrooms get heat and water to supplement the horse manure. Hey, imagine even admitting that you had anything to do with this calamity. FFS.
Upright, honest, decent, loyal, entitled, worthy,……NO!
A disgrace to football. Arrogant arseholes.
The Scottish media continue to peddle drivel and tripe. Thank F..K I don’t have to see their crap when I walk into a shop in the Province. It’s bad enough having to listen to decent politicians telling porkies about the Taoiseach. Bless us and save us. Lord Kilcocoey in connection to porky references, refers to the Taoiseach as “a typical Indian”.
“There was a wild colonial boy”
Now he’s a lord. Jesus wept.
Stiff upper lip don’t you know. I remember the Empire.
Yes those were the days.
Phil, what is the state of play re Warburton et al being paid what they are due by Sevco after their unlawful sacking? I cannot find any information on the outcome anywhere!
Phil, once again another excellent post, but permit me one little ‘whinge’. You rightfully credited Hibs with their 4-0 decimation of Sevco 3 years ago. But why follow that up with a derogatory comment against Hibernian regarding Sevco’s over the top celebrations in the 2016 semi-final by saying they ‘Hibbsed’ it.
It’s true Hibs were a basket case during the years from 2010-2014, and consequently suffered some embarrasing losses. But it is equally ironic that they picked up that unjustified label from the fans of two teams in particular. One who was liquidated, and the other who was put into administration during that same period.
Hibs contribution to the advancement of football in Scotland is almost unequalled by any other club. You may already be aware that the great James Connolly was a Hibs fan.
Throughout their history Hibs have always had a reputation as a team that liked to play the ‘beautiful’ game. Grace and skill were there trademarks. They are undoubtebly the second most entertaining team in Scotland today.
So Phil I would kindly ask you to no longer use that disparaging anti Hibs description when describing examples of the shameful display of sectarianism in April 2016, by the Sevco High Command led by the GASL.
Leave that type of comment to those who currently reside in the sewer.
The gloating fan who frequently laughed at Hibs “hibsing it” are no longer able to crow about being superior because they have been overtaken by a vastly improved club, who let’s face it were a pushover for everyone a few years ago.
Therein lies a cautionary tale for all those of a celtic persuasion who think that the current malaise at Sevco is permanent. This basket case can be turned around within a few seasons if someone with a reasonable overview comes in.
No sign of that just yet, but it may happen.
Hear, Hear – well said that man!
Don’t be so sensitive, my friend. The term “Hibsed it” when used by Celtic fans is not so much triumphalism as exasperation at your club’s well-known propensity over many years to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. In England, the term is “Spursed it” for the same reason.
Hibs place at the forefront of Scottish football history is assured.
if you think “hibsed it” is bad spare a thought for Bobby Nutmeg
Mibbe Murts could go for Stevie G’s oul’ job?
If Gerrard looks under the hood he’ll find a Polaroid picture of an engine where the engine room subsidiary used to be
Steven Gerrard potentially managing sevco is a non story as far as Celtic are concerned. Money buys players not reputation from previous employment. The only people who may have cause to worry are the sevco players who like a scrap with the manager. They may find Gerrard has more ability in the scraping department than the mild mannered Mr Murty. Infact Mr Gerrard will no doubt give as good as he gets.
This could be fun.
The Scouser’s minders keep asking about warchests and written guaranrtees. And what the f@@k are image rights?
The Caretaker has to go to give the press pack some red meat – tell them it’s a sign of progress – a necessary step – a strategic move – it’s not just the SMSM now you know – The Liverpool Echo is on the case.
Anyway, turns out Nicholl was first choice all along – The Scoucer wasn’t ready – doesn’t ‘get’ The Rangers – FFS – what are they like – bless
ps I remember the original Rangers(1872) struggling to finish second in the early eighties. But back then Celtic didn’t go to Ibrox and win 5-1 or win 5-0 at paradise. Smells like a new club to me
I too have a bit of sympathy for Murts Phil who was hung out to dry at least twice by Sevco, but his second spell was after Pedro. I know… it’s difficult to keep up with all the shenanigans down Govan way!!
…
Astonished that Gerrard has’nt ruled himself out yet. Surely he’s not going to become their manager. Surely not !
Will be interesting what his response will be if asked during his co-analysis role for the Roma-Liverpool tie.
Phil I believe the just if your story but your timeline is flawed, when “it was time for young Master Myers to step up again” it was following brother Pedro’s exit, not when the Admiral found out from Sky that he’d resigned
Charles did not master Murt step in whilst Pedro was saved the Celtic game as his entrance and from that Murty achieved his 1 1 draw when brother Madden ignored mister Hills challeng on LG.
It was both, he was caretaker between Wards and Pedro’s tenures.
Poor Yorick looks decidedly healthier than all the failed managers. Is this how Stevie G would like to end up? HH
And from Club 1872’s latest report comes this Father Ted worthy paragraph:
At the time of writing our membership sits at 7430 – a net increase of 380 members since the
campaign began. We also have £520,000 available for shares. This is slight decrease on our last
publicised estimate, due to a manual reconciliation done for the submission of the annual
accounts.

You know things are bad when even mouthpiece the Evening Times releases a story saying Murty had resigned, then has to obliterate the story an hour later when it becomes clear he was sacked, but forgets to change references to his resignation in all the other screed of ‘rangers’ stories on the site. Is there anyone in that flawed club/umpany that can do simple humamn resources tasks properly?
Just resting in the account.
That documwnt states “Club 1872 will represent the only way for supporters to take part in the upcoming share issue”
a) there is no “upcomig shae issue”
b) what is to stop “supporters” buying shares at JP Jenkins at 27.7p and then buying new shares at around half that price to restore their percentage share ownership?
c) will “supporters” who are already shareholders outside of Club 1872, perhaps having paid 70p at IPO time, not be part of any share issue – whenever – however – it might happend?
Shirley some mistake – or fraudulent mispresentation – here!
To buy through JP Jenkins I think there has to be a ” matched bargain” – there is no “market” in these shares in the conventional sense, so you cant just contact them and say you would like to buy/sell shares at the latest price
