Irish centre in Glasgow. A positive week.

I was encouraged to get a very positive report from the Harps Community Project’s Danny Boyle about his fact finding trip to the Emerald Centre in Leicester.Danny’s assessment was that it was an:

“Excellent set up and they have a fraction of the size of the community compared to Glasgow.”

Once more I was forced to look at the abnormality of the situation apropos the Irish community in Glasgow.

Across the world cities with a large Irish population would have, almost as a sine qua non, a thriving Irish centre.

As can be seen here I have a longstanding interest in Glasgow, once more, having an Irish Centre.

Although discussions with the Scottish government and Glasgow City council are at an early stage people on the Irish side have been heartened by the open and accommodating stance of politicians and civil servants towards the concept of the city having an Irish centre.

The information that Danny Boyle has gleaned this week in Leicester will, I have no doubt, be put to good use.
