Strategising without spitting

After Celtic loses a domestic game, the usual emotional post-mortem naturally follows.

However, context is everything.

The club’s supporters currently feel alienated from those running it.

Here David Low lays it out very well on ACSOM.

When I heard him using the word “spitting ” (42 minutes), I took it that he was using it metaphorically.

Some seem to have taken it literally.

Therefore, I was pleased to see Paul John clarify that turn of phrase in the post-match ACSOM  (35 minutes) yesterday.

David and I agree on many things, including, crucially, the value of the Godfather.

For the avoidance of doubt, I consider him to be a serious man to be treated with respect.

When Fergus needed a guy on the ground in 1994, David was available to be consigliere.

David’s plan for Celtic Supporters Limited (CSL) is all Michael and not Santino.

Sadly, some who turned up at last year’s AGM behaved like the latter.

As a result, they let Fredo off the hook.

Never interrupt your enemy’s son when he’s reading out daddy’s incendiary message.

As I have written here before, those who live in the boardroom universe will only be moved by a shareholder insurgency that CSL represents.

Not by red cards at an AGM or tennis balls on a golf course.

It takes a strategic move like the one David and his colleagues at CSL are planning.

Of course, none of that lifts my mood from yesterday.

Here is your humble correspondent’s current reading.

Dr Pearse is a psychologist, so I like his approach.

Sadly, I fear the emotionality of yesterday’s defeat will not register with the Grey Brigade in the same way it did for those who paid in to the Falkirk  Stadium to support the Hoops.

And that, dear reader, is the problem.

  1. Results might not affect the Grey Brigade in the way that they affect the paying supporters, at least not until there are enough poor results to impact on attendances. Dropping attendances equal less money spent within the stadium on match days, and less likelihood of people picking up something at the club shop eg.

Anything that results in less money coming in is all they care about. The club is a cash cow to the Grey Brigade. They don’t care about ordinary fans, in fact the evidence is already there to show that they have nothing but contempt for us.

For fans to have a meaningful impact on the Grey Brigade there has to be some common cause that every one of the various splinter groups can get behind. Most fans just want the best version of Celtic that is reasonably achievable. The problem seems to be finding the cause, or the group of people who can unite the whole disgruntled fan base.

Lets not forget that there will always be those who believe that the club are doing a great job, regardless of how poor results get.
I’m afraid that the problems within the club have not just appeared overnight, it has been a gradual decline over many years which will take a long time to stop, and turn around.

Divide and conquer is the strategy of the board, and it seems to be working for them.
The worrying thing for me is, how long are they prepared to go on blaming everybody but themselves, and what state will the club be in if they ever wake up and take their share of the blame.

  2. Did you attend the AGM?

Personally, I’ll always believe those that were there.

I also throw my weight behind the tens of thousands of united Celtic fans

Others can put theirs behind those that arose out of a PLC with directorships before it started to engage with Celtic fans and attempts to duplicate and disrupt the united Celtic fanbase.

Any update on how far these ”serious’ people are to raising the £100m or so, it’ll take to buy out Desmond etc?

  3. I thinks its safe to say that dermot doesnt give one iota about yesterday’s result, neither do any of the suits on the board. When Desmond released his statement that ” the reputation of Celtic football club is non-negotiable “, he actually meant that what he wants to do with celtic is non-negotiable. The man clearly has no serious fan affiliation with the club, I am just simply amazed that a man of his business acumen is allowing a business that he owns to be not making the money that is actually achievable if it was ran correctly.
