Terminado once again

Celtic aren’t usually a shambles, but they are tonight.

Late last week, I was told by a very well-placed source that Desmond and Rodgers had a lengthy phone call on Monday ( 20/10/2025).

I have no reason to doubt the integrity of this source.

The first short statement announcing that Brendan Rodgers had resigned was standard enough.

However, what came after from Dermot Desmond was a public execution.

This, in particular, leaves no wriggle room:

Regrettably, his words and actions since then have been divisive, misleading, and self-serving. They have contributed to a toxic atmosphere around the club and fuelled hostility towards members of the executive team and the Board. Some of the abuse directed at them, and at their families, has been entirely unwarranted and unacceptable.

That’s the key part that suggests to me that there is no NDA in this divorce.

I find it difficult to refute  Paul John’s analysis.

The departure of Brendan Rodgers in this fashion is undoubtedly a shambles and has a lot more potential for self-harm.

This isn’t what it’s usually like to be Celtic.

  1. DD appoints everyone from the Chairman, the Board, Executives to the cleaners. He also signs players directly. Now he’s broken cover and the next step is for him is to initiate a change at board and C level and a clear statement of the footballing and business objectives. Then he should step back from operating activities.

  2. Brendan’s results this season have been atrocious and the football terrible to watch. Maybe just maybe it wasn’t all the Boards fault.

    • Brendan Rodgers was.not faultless on all decisions but at least he has the ability to spot a patsy when he looks in the mirror.

He was absolutely right to tell them where to shove it !!!

There’s no way he was getting money in January it’s called a stitch up mate.

    • Its a combination of the two being a mess, and its killing the club. Rodgers has previous for this too, reading some of the articles discussing the recent 15 year anniversary of FSG taking over Liverpool, the chasm between what Rodgers would do internally, versus what he would afterwards say publicly very much annoyed them then, and was certainly a factor in his eventual removal. While he’s clearly a talented manager, until he rectifies this in himself, and whatever causes the gradual season after season decline at every club he’s been at in the last decade, he will always be a low to mid level manager.

How DD’s behaviour in the world of business, versus whats going on here and now, also needs to be called out. This is car crash stuff and going to make any manager who might be seriously interested in the job think twice. The club has huge potential in terms of the size of the supporter base, the ground capacity, and ability to expand that capacity, and bring the club into this century in terms of facilities and ways of generating revenue rather than just releasing another new kit. That change will not happen while DD and geriatric board members sit happily by with their biscuit tin safely stored away.

It will be very interesting to see the reaction of the players this weekend into their perception of him. Ange will be linked, but the way he left before, and the way he looks completely figured out by the PL, and the way he’s just unable to stop shooting his feet off in every press conference makes me thing its unlikely. Martin is a legend but at 73 and being out of the game for so long, its not something that can continue beyond the short term. A well run club would have carried out succession planning especially as relationships worsened and no contract renewal occurring, but as always it doesn’t look like it has happened here, so who knows when they’ll be able to appoint someone suitable. Might even be the end of the season. Might even be Neil Lennon again. Thats how bad the club is run.

  3. He should have been Terminado after kairat.
Our worst result in our history.

His record in meaningful games in 2025 has been nothing short of shocking.
