Once the news that the 45th President to the United States was infected with Covid19, it obviously became THE Trump story.
Had this not occurred then I suspect that his apparent endorsement of a white supremacist militia would still be headline news.
It was the moment that made even veteran lobby correspondents gasp.
The anchor in the Presidential debate called out the incumbent to tell the Proud Boys to “stand down”.
Instead, he said that they should
“Proud Boys – stand back and stand by. But I’ll tell you what. I’ll tell you what. Somebody’s got to do something about Antifa and the left because this is not a right-wing problem.”
The Proud Boys group were not slow to capitalise on their apparent Presidential endorsement.
Until that moment, I had never heard of this group.
I immediately turned to my resident expert on matters American.
Fortunately, he is currently in the home place, so I zoomed upstairs to get the skinny.
What he had to tell me was shocking.
Here is the founder of the Proud Boys in his own words.
He openly admits that his militia is based on the Bowery Boys.
They were a nativist anti-Irish, anti-Catholic gang formed in mid-19th century, New York.
Those were in the days when the Irish in America were not considered white.

So, this child of the Scottish diaspora founded a Fascist militia that is publicly endorsed by President Trump.
A couple of different decisions by his parents then I suspect that Mr McInnes could have been an Ibrox season ticket holder.
What is undoubtedly the case is that had he been reared in Fair Caledonia then he would have been exposed to the same nativist atavism of the Trump base.
Of course, the Ibrox klanbase fondly remembered in song the Proud Boys on Glasgow.
Billy Fullerton shared the identical blood and soil nativist world view of the chaps who President Trump told to “stand by”.
Indeed, the self-identifying fascist wrote to the Ku Klux Klan in the United States seeking permission to establish a branch of the KKK in Glasgow.
In 2020 the open razors of Bridgeton have been replaced with AR 15s in Charlottesville.
The hatred is identical.
Indeed, I rather suspect that many of the Proud Boys dream of wading up to their knees in the blood of those who they consider to be less than human.
This was the response yesterday to Celtic getting over the line in Perth.
For the uninitiated “Taig” is the “N” word of the Ibrox klanbase.

Some people who air their views on this sight seem to me to be living in the 1950’s, except for a small minority of ignorant bigots who are mostly associated with the Orange Lodge or Rangers FC I don’t see many people in Scotland who give a damn what religion you are especially among the younger generation of Scots. As a guy who grew up during the 50’s with the Christin name Michael there were times when I was called a wee Fenian bxxxxxd or wee Irish bxxxxxd but again this abuse in my opinion was aimed at the Scots of Irish descent by a sizable minority of Scots in those days, not by a majority.
I believe in Scottish Independence mostly for economic and social fairness reasons, anyone who thinks Scotland couldn’t
survive economically in the world are being so misguided and manipulated. Scotland is so rich in renewable energy, agricultural land, fishing grounds and is the only part of the UK that exports more than it imports. Instead of looking back I hope the young people of Scotland grasp Independence and take their future into their own hands along with numerous countries of a similar size. To finish I would emphasise Independence won’t be owned by the SNP.
I’m amazed that Trump, via his Scottish mother, is not pushing the healing powers of Irn Bru.

His latest claim is that having come though Covid he’s feeling better than any time in the last 20 years.
He’s almost encouraging the US population to follow in his footsteps and catch Covid and they too would then be able to emerge from the sickness feeling on top of the world.
He did stop short of offering the services of his huge medical team to provide the same treatment provided to himself as many of his red neck supporters cannot afford US medical insurance rates.

You condemn what is happening in the United States and quite rightly so. They have a president who considers himself a good Christian yet displays none of the Christian virtues. He has garnered great support from the evangelicals. They support the right to life above all else but after the foetus struggles down the birth canal and takes it’s first gasp of oxygen they lose all interest. They do not care if this human being lives their entire life in abject poverty. They don’t care if they are uneducated and they don’t care if they have no medical care.
Trump’s mother came from the Isle of Lewis. A stronghold of the wee free church. These people believe that the pope is the anti-christ and that catholics are devil worshippers. Maybe this is where he got his extreme political views from. They hate everyone.
