Late equalisers and legal own goals

Sevco suffered a financial setback last night when Borna Barišić could not get out of the path of Felix Mambimbi’s strike.

That levelled the contest at the death and just before Ryan was sent off.

I just hope that he didn’t cry.

However, with Sevco it is always about the money.

Therefore, instead of €570k for a win, they had to make do with €190k for a draw.

Had they won the match they would have topped the group.

That would have netted the basket of assets €1m.

Instead, coming second in the group brings in 4500k.

All in all that own goal cost Sevco €880k.

Now, as group runners up them will go into the draw unseeded.

Conversely Celtic, as group winners will be seeded and have the advantage of playing the second leg of the tie at home.

This is obviously a sporting advantage.

This week there has been a supply of good news stories emanating from the stadium that John Brown played for

New deals for Steve Davis, Jermain Defoe and Allan McGregor simply increases the wage bill for three players at the veteran stage.

However, it is all about stopping Celtic this season.

They tried at Hampden last weekend.

Close, but no silverware.

It was an epic occasion.

You never know, Sir Rod Stewart might pen a song about it.

Of course, Sevco have another major fixture to play next month.

In the High Court in front of Lionel Persey QC.

For the uninitiated, he is one of the most eminent people in the English legal world and hugely respected.

Regular readers here will know of the self-inflicted wound of the Elite/Hummel deal is covered with the glib and shameless fingerprints of the Convict Chairman.

So far General Ashley has won every round of this legal campaign.

The only thing now to be decided is the size of the cheque that Sevco will have to write for Sports Direct and that is next up in January 2020.

So far, Chairman Dave’s cunning plan has been to stall and play for time.

I can’t imagine that there is now much mileage left in that approach.

The only thing that I can think of would be, at this very late stage, to do something crazy.

Like question the competence of the judge!

For the avoidance of doubt, I can’t imagine anyone being that self-destructively desperate to do something like that.

I really can’t.

  1. Slight change of tack from the blue side who are now claiming that the gesture from Morelos towards the Well fans was because of the racist abuse they were handing out to him.
I think that the boos aimed at Morelos were more to do with his reputation and his sly kick outs and ability to throw himself to the ground whenever anyone comes near him, often peeking through his fingers to see the refs reaction.
Bit surprised that McGregor once again got away with a serious assault on the Well player as he cleared the danger.
He’s followed through and completely wiped out the Well player. Anywhere else on the park it would have been deemed a red card.

  2. Been reading how well Morelos has been conducting himself this season with no sending off till today.
Nothing could be further from the truth. He’s still throwing himself to the ground and taking sly kicks at opponents.
The only difference is that the refs, under orders from above, have just stopped booking him.
14 fouls in the Cup Final last week without Colum showing a card is indicative of whats happening.
No doubt any potential suitor will be asking themselves if the Colombian’s on field antics would be tolerated anywhere other than Scotland.

    • Morelos should have been sent off today with a second yellow before the second goal. It would have changed the game.
Refs are carding him as a last resort after numerous obvious card meriting fouls.
They really are trying hard to cheat Lennon out the title again.

    • He had a studs-up, over the ball tackle early on and wasn’t even spoken to. He throws himself to the ground and writhes about in mock agony at the merest hint of a tackle, often with NO contract whatsoever. He’s a sleekit little shite of a man.

Katic could also have been off. HE went through a guy early on as well, leading with an elbow to the back of the neck. Again not even spoken to.

Aribo is also quite partial to a flying elbow.

What McGregor gets away with on a weekly basis is nothing short of appalling. He IS going to cause a serious injury eventually.

  3. Phil apparently we should not be laughing at them over at sevcoland. We Coco at IN has put it out there his team where in a world class champions league group of teams . All their bloggers forums and their clown friends in the media are praising all their OAP signings as well as their manager for signing extended contracts for what FAILURE. They must be the only football club that rewards FAILURE . Even we Coco over on his site earlier this week was bragging about being second best to celtic and that this was not a problem as Stevie G was doing a wonderful job . Lol thing was the mad BENNY’S all agreed with it . Oh and apparently they are more than capable of winning the Europa league as they fear no one . This was the quote of the day from none other than Greg Docherty a guy that can’t even make the bench for the KLAN .

  4. I’ve seen it suggested elsewhere that Sevco have been scratching through parts of the judgement that they don’t like. I was skeptical that anyone in the legal profession would be that stupid but it seems that there may be mileage in this. Oh how I hope it’s true, will end in tears and snotters…..

      • I would say this is pretty much par for the course and, if Celtic fans have been happy with it up until now, then sadly I don’t see that changing.

Although the noising up of the Rangers directors is funny, I’m pretty sure that if any ordinary fan (never mind those damnable rogues of the Green Brigade) had acted like this they would be banned.

Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury, raise the double standard.
