The sight of Sevco crashing out of the Europa League at the first attempt was met with general hilarity in the world of football.
It is yet another humorous jibe that the Bearmacht will have to endure in perpetuity.
Of course, the financial implications for the Sevco High Command are dire.
However, don’t expect anything sensible like budgets being trimmed back.
You may recall what Sir Walter of Cardigan said about there being no place for financial common sense in the Blue Room.
As well as howls of anguish from the People and howls of laughter from the rest of us, you might also have detected a sigh of relief from the 6th floor for Hampden.
I understand that the folk in Nyon had some very precise questions for the world-class administrators at Hampden.
My information is that they wanted further proof that The Rangers Football Club (formerly Sevco Scotland Limited) was in full compliance with the UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations (FFP).
Therefore, FC Progrès Niederkorn might have done the chaps at Hampden a very large solid.
Given the high quality of the staff at the SFA, especially in the upper echelons of that highly regarded organisation, it is my guess that they are coveted by other sporting organisations.
Just like football teams, there is always a hunt on for proven talent.
Therefore, I was surprised to learn that a leading member of the SFA recently applied for a mid-ranking position in a governing body with national responsibility for another code.
The position was based in England.
Sadly, his sparkling resume didn’t pass the first screening.
He didn’t even get an interview.
I find this very strange given the excellent job that the chap in question is doing in Scotland.
Sad to relate, but the SFA ‘s track record apropos governance issues around the Ibrox shambles did come up in conversation as his resume was passed around.
I have the full details of this post and the organisation that it is in.
For the avoidance of doubt, I know the identity of the world-class administrator who is trying to better himself by applying for a job that pays less money.

For the avoidance of doubt , chapeau to you Phil. Adherence to rules, financial or otherwise, has never been been in Sevco’s playbook. With the unfettered assistance of both the SFA and the SPFL, and the barefaced complicity of the cowardly media , the Govannites have ridden roughshod over Scottish football.
Methinks the bookies would not be offering any odds on the identity of this world class administrator. To be honest no organisation would want to touch any of these guys with a long stick wae a jobby on the end.
Talking about faecal matter Mr.McLaughlin piece is an absolute disgrace. “Let’s move on.” Aye right! Only when justice is served. I’m afraid you’re like all the rest of Jabba’s minions, Cowards one and ALL. Why don’t you grow a pair?
Maybe our intrepid administrator just needs re-training to get a more suitable job for himself at the lower level he seems confortable with. Maybe he could just practice asking “Do you want extra large fries with that?” in the mirror every day.
Fantastic insight once again Phil, I’m so grateful to you for constantly keeping us all in the picture. Keep up the great work and ‘Keep Digging Away’
Amazing piece of journalism, Phil. Just one quick question, if I may…….ahem…..(Clears throat.)……..Phil, why are you so good ?c. Jim White. 1996. HH
It says everything about Regan and Doncaster that not one Scottish football fan would want them anywhere near another enquiry into Rangers tax affairs.
An independent enquiry, probably stuffed with non Scottish members, is the only way forward.
Whilst they are at it they could have a look at the UEFA licence awarded to Rangers in 2012 despite the unpaid tax bill!
So if “holding company” FC is found to be in breech of FFP and were not eligible for Europe then another Scottish club was denied there rightful place. So these mugs cost $$$$ and co efficient points to the whole of Scottish football. How bad will this effect the number of teams that can qualify for Euro competitions in the future? I guess that doesn’t matter as long as they have their beloved Gers.
The SFA and SPFL are stalling in the hope that nothing bad will happen.
Just like Wiley Coyote when he runs off a cliff and keeps running in thin air for a few seconds before he realises – and then plummets to the canyon floor.
Scottish football is corrupt and broken – anyone who cares to look can see that.
If it stays broken, paying customers will drift away and never come back.
Men of integrity and vision are needed to fix it – and they are in very shor supply – if not entirely extinct – in the SFA ans SPFL
Bit of a pickle for the national “sport”.
Maybe the national Parliament has strong opinions on industrial tax evasion and doping in sport.
If they have, they are the best kept secrets in Scotland.
Where’s Nicola on this ?
Govan ..?
This is not a matter for the Scottish Government for goodness sake!
If the football authorities do their job right then they are best placed to dispense justice.
Government interference in football matters can bring sanctions against the national football association!
Stop blaming the SNP for football’s governing bodies’ failures!
So it’s okay that football is somehow a law unto itself, quite separate from the laws of the land, and that the people who have enabled this fraud can therefore just sail off gaily into the sunset, with nary a care in the world for the sins they’ve committed against our people, our country, our laws and our game ..?
Let that kind of obedient gullibility stay on the sweary sites where it belongs.
The only reason they keep getting away with this crap is precisely BECAUSE they’re accountable to no one, and their ongoing actions prove that they’ll just keep doing what they’re doing until called to account by the laws of the land in which they’re still operating these ‘indiscretions’ unhindered by FFP, or anything else.
It doesn’t get much more serious than this, yet it’s almost already been accepted that ‘Nothing will get done’, so the farce will continue, and our game will be rigged, and made a mockery of, once again.
Every potential crime has to be investigated, no matter what FIFA or UEFA say, and if anyone knows about ‘long fraud’ it’s those two likewise tainted bodies, as we all well know by now.
Crooks running a racket and nobody can touch them ..?
When was that ever alright?
The SFA and SPFL have proved that they are not self healing. They are corrupt and determined to be corrupt.
No good will come from within the SFA and SPFL. If this was possible it would have happened long ago. They are the patient not the doctor. UEFA have also kept out of this entirely – probably on the advice of delegate Ogilvie – local difficulty – nothing to see here etc
My point about the government is that people with a larger responsibility for the good of Scotland should now step in – that is the Goveverment that part funds them – that happens to be the SNP.
If the SNP don’t want to do the nasty parts of the job as well as the nice parts of the job then they are not fit for the job either.
Noblesse Oblige
Well after all some did come forward to express an opinion as to the value of having a strong
Sevco in the League did they not.
Nicola what is your take on all this we need to know ?
‘Rangers is a part of the fabric of Scottish society, an institution …’
Alec Salmond, 2012, the day he let my support forever.
‘……’
Nicola Sturgeon, every day of the week.
I smell fish.
I’m sure the high-ranking SFA chap consoled himself with a few wee shots of tequila …
‘He’s got a good reason
For taking the easy way out now …’
I wonder if your unnamed day tripper understands the meaning of the words ‘EMBARRASSMENT’ & ‘DISGRACE’ yet, now that his resume has been discussed and thrown back at him in his ‘own language’, as it were ..?
For it’s clear he has no respect for the language, nor its meanings, of his genial hosts.
On an ironic postscript from Shirebrook, I see Big Mike ‘I Like A Good Drink’ Ashley is being laughably sued for 14 million pounds by a fella called, er, Jeffrey Blue …
They were out on the piss and it appears that Mr Blue believed The Ashley had told him he’d give him the princely sum of ‘FIFTEEN MILLION POUNDS’ if he managed to raise the SD share price, which he did, but only received a paltry million for his efforts …
(I can’t bring myself to share the link but it’s in The Clumpster’s ‘favourite’ Glasgow rag.)
Sometimes, in moments of existential weakness, I almost fully believe that this entire thing has been scripted from start to finish, like they do with the wars and all their other grand scams of social engineering in the sowing of disharmony, disunity, division & revolt.
After all, what better way to ‘control the narrative’ than to have written that narrative in advance yourself, like these poor widow’s sons have been doing for centuries already.
Apparently Enrique Iglesias has just signed for Sevco. He once kicked a ball in a pop video, but anyway, he has the right sounding name, and anyway, singing is more important than football at Sevco.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NUsoVlDFqZg
Will it be a case of “I can be your Hero baby?” Or will Enrique be singing “Escape” before long?
What on Earth has possessed Ryan Jack and Dorrans to join this bargain bucket outfit? Crazy guys. Don’t they know Sevco doesn’t respect contracts?
I’m sure Derek Johnstone would like the cut of his jib, but he would be turfed out come Christmas with the rest of them.
Sevconians need to relax and get into the mañana spirit. But it’s probably too Latin and too Catholic. Pedro’s there for three years so they need to calm down. The man is only in his first transfer window. He’ll need four to get going.
Enrique looks like the next Suarez. Or was that Morelos?
They might not respect contracts but they do respect jibs …
Look, they’ve filled their team with them 10 times over, and they’re still shite.
But the jibs just keep on coming, along with the jibes & the jokes & the madness.
Brilliant! Boa! Braw!
The funniest ‘fitba club’ in the history of the world!
Mel Brooks should make a movie about them, though their own madcap antics would be hard to top, even for him.
And he could make one about Rangers when he kicks the bucket then beam it oer fae ‘the other side’.
Smashin! 🙂
Chapeau to Mr Lawwell – cleverly played (as ever) on the sporting advantage front. Be extremely patient in the face of irrational supporter noise and wait until the highest court in the land deems Rangers to have cheated without question, and then ask the question formally and let them all quake in their boots with highest possible publicity post their euro exit – chapeau indeed.
There’s a new role for Brother Pedro after all – Minister for Brexit bearing in mind how successfully he managed that quick euro exit ?
Pep
Lawwell always said at the AGMs, when asked by Celtic shareholders, that he was more or letting this play out until the right time.
Now is that time.
Apart from anything else , that last paragraph has just got to piss him off severely. As always ,I doff.. be lucky Phil and thanks again.
Ha ha our bumbling administrators couldn’t get a job in Tesco. The Scottish game is forever tainted by the team from Govan since early 2000 and the SFA/SPFL forever conflicted. If someone has videos of Dumb and Dumber with our bovine cousins then all the better.
Being a Celtic fan I’ve been at our last few League Trophy celebration games. Dungcaster sneeks in at the back and despite being the CEO, enters unannounced as part of the ‘SPFL party’, not because the club don’t like him but fear the reaction of the fans to his name.
My local Tesco are looking for check out people, just maybe:-)
Did you see him at the presentation of the trophy at Celtic Park? He was one of four on the podium. As the players came out the tunnel and onto the park everyone in the Stadium gave them a standing ovation including three gentlemen on the podium, with the unmannerly, ignorant Doncaster standing with his hands behind his back. I got my son to video it as non Celtic people would find it hard to believe.
If as many know for a fact, Sevco were playing in Europe contrary to the FFP rules, then the team below them in the league should have had that place. They may well have faired better, and increased their revenue to boot. Therefore the cheating continues, Sevco have the backing of those who run our game. This must end and Regan and Doncaster must go.
There can be no level playing field, while those running our game favour one team over the rest.
A clear out and a fresh set of rules brought out, that are strictly and evenly applied.
On a slightly different, but related, note, there’s a report on the HMRC case on page 2 of today’s Financial Times (link below if that’s OK Phil). Note that the case concerns the use of offshore trusts by Rangers Football Club – not a ‘holding company’ or ‘engine room subsidiary’ or any of the other sh1te frequently peddled by the lodge brethren in the Scottish media to perpetuate the myth that, despite being liquidated, the old club has somehow survived and lives on. To be clear, administration is corporate intensive care, from which those placed into it can emerge intact and alive. Liquidation is basically a corporate funeral service and reading of the will. RANGERS WERE LIQUIDATED AND SO THEY DIED!!!

Put pressure on UEFA to investigate further
I thought the same thing after the laughter. However the outcome of the match should have no bearing on the ffp rules. All Clubs should ask for an new independent enquiry after the BTC ruling.
If the license broke UEFA FFP then regardless of the result UEFA need to look into it.
If TRFC complained about a Progres player, then Progres should still complain on ffp. Tit for tat.
Incredible that they actually complained about one of the Progrès players in a vain attempt to get the result overturned when they’re the team shouldn’t even have been in the competition in the first place!
It’s little things like this that give me the distinct impression that UEFA are all too well aware of their crimes and indiscrepancies but are happy to play along with the game for whatever reasons they have, which are no doubt financial, and probably historical too.
Those handshakes they like go a long way back, that much is now clear.
Get Michael J. Garcia to investigate. He’s the US lawyer who investigated the FIFA inquiry into the awarding of the World Cup to Russia and Qatar. It was so honest FIFA covered it up. That’s who we need!
Our ruling bodies need to be completely overhauled. It’s no good just replacing Doncaster and Regan. They were appointed from England from within the corrupt bodies to make it appear as if they were beyond reproach.
When Lance Armstrong admitted cheating, we all know that his TDF wins were removed from the records. Also his sponsor US Mail sought to get their sponsorship money back from him but I don’t know if they ever did. There may have been other legal actions against him.
Is there not a case here for Rangers’ sponsors during the EBT years to feel that their brand has been tarnished by this clubs malpractice?
It would be great if some authoritative journalist in Donegal could ask them and publish their responses.
Justice must be done and be seen to be done.
Surely UEFA, won’t give up since they have been eliminated? The mere presence of a team that broke the FFP rules brings into question the integrity of the competition and the rules that UEFA have
UEFA must still tackle the muppets at Hampden about the FFP matter re Sevco regardless that they have failed in Europe.
Surely the issue here is that they should never have been in the Europa to start with.
The GASL going pitch side with a microphone pleading with The People to act like soccer fans speaks volumes about the lack of governance of the game in Scotland.
I firmly believe that figures at the SFA were involved in a criminal conspiracy to advance Rangers FC at the expense of all other clubs. To their plc/ Ltd coy financial detriment. I believe this to remain the case.
I believe sdm has immense influence at the SFA and he flexes this influence, I believe he has influential leverage over several people.
Criminal Charges would be appropriate.
The recent statement from the SFA regarding the Supreme Court ruling would be astonishing from a governing body in any other country.
Where’s the Minister for Sport? Scotland says Football is its national Game.
Influence? I think you mean Blackmail, apparently the tapes snaffled by the GASL from Charlotte fakes lays bare where “all the bodies are buried”, and as such Regan cannot go against anything the entity out of Ibrox want or demand.
Phil how do you do it?!
Perhaps he thought that the familiar sound of leather against willow was preferable to the sound of bottles crashing that is currently heard at Hampden as EBT comes home to roost.
“Publish and be Damned”, I say.
