Kulchur war at Ibrox?

It would appear that some of my more cynical readers were spot on.

They posited that the recent offering at Statement O’clock was connected to the putative takeover from across the Pond.

In the absence of any evidence, I thought it was merely a plea in mitigation to UEFA after the Fenerbahçe game at the stadium John Brown played for.

Well, early this morning, a very well-placed source at Ibrox reached out.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no reason to disbelieve this individual who has proven trustworthy for over a decade.

Firstly, he informed me that the consortium, which has been the subject of much pishful thinking in the mainstream, is a rather loose coalition at this stage.

Indeed, he said that two members of this ensemble had already done walking away.

I understand that after the Europa League match, a leading member of the takeover group and a senior member of the Sevco High Command had a conversation.

The Blue Room chap was left in no doubt by the consortium guy that although he accepted fan rivalry and offensive songs were all part of any sports franchise, there was a line.

Moreover, the Ibrox crowd was, in the opinion of the outsider, “pissing all over it”.

Overall, not a good look.

The featured image is the key part of the statement.

If the Sevco High Command follows through with this, then it will be a fork in the road between the Blue Room and many in the Ibrox klanbase.

Since the new club was created in 2012, the fans have been the lender of last resort.

Remember, this is a loss-making business without a credit line from a bank.

That’s why they had to go to Macquarie recently.

If this consortium does end up owning the basket of assets, then they will not be benefactors.

Think of them as American Ashleys.

I’m told that at least one of the potential takeover consortium has stated that the numbers revealed by the Sevco High Command don’t look good.

My information is that this individual has suggested that they would be better served by looking for a franchise in the English Championship or even League One.

As this is the international interregnum, imagine a time when the current Rangers entity has players from various national sides.

One of them, a Republic of Ireland player, is seen proudly facing the Irish Tricilour while belting out  Amhrán na bhFiann.

After the international break, he is seen driving up to Auchenhowie in his FAI tracksuit, fresh off the plane.

Would that be acceptable to the Ibrox klanbase?

Well, if they want these new owners, they will have to do some…err… kulchural adjustment.

I’m sure that Paddy Stewart knows that now.

  1. I’ve been saying since the investor group news broke that it made no sense and that they’d be better served buying an English club with the potential for growth.

  2. The deeply Catholic benefactor owners of the 49ers will I am sure be very impressed at the prospect of investing in Scotland’s version of the Ku Klux Klan .

  3. I find the usage of “For the avoidance of doubt” in the statement strange, since it might almost be Phil’s catchphrase.
    Unless he’s dictating their output.
    Or it’s a sleekit dig.

  4. Various Sevco fans have been spotted in the crowd with “Make Rangers Great Again” blue baseball caps…. Akin to the red MAGA hats, there is an irony here in that little delinquent Donnie across the pond taking a baseball bat to the stock market could inadvertently scupper this takeover & as I stated in a previous post……
“More Blue Crash Airlines, than BlueStar Airlines.” & the Sevco choir & accompanying hymn sheet duly delivered as expected & the “Free of Litigation Trophy.” was also lost in less than a season.

    • Most investors aren’t in the game to lose £25m per annum ,quite the opposite.
This is a Club who have made the last 16 of the Europa League 5 times made the Final once and the Champions League Group Phase twice ,had full houses for years and still haven’t turned a penny in profit in 12 years.
Other than making the Champions League groups every year how do you expect them to get a return on that £25m a year?
Then there is the current Champions on the cusp of 4 in a row and a possible treble with not one but two Billionaires involved at aboard level?
      Pie in the sky …

  5. My main concern at the moment is beating that mob on the pitch. The boardroom battle will pan out but we need to get results against them on the park immediately.

  6. Things appear to have quietened down a little bit with the so called mainstream scottish media. As a Celtic fan I am watching this situation closely and as usual it is hard to get impartial coverage. Hopefully things will become a lot clearer in time.

  7. Me thinks that the aptly named “onion bears” will be needing many many boxes of kleenex handy, when they find out that austerity will be more akin to huge transfer chests.

For a club with no profits in its entire existence, anyone looking to buy that club will be looking for returns on their investment, and looking to regain those funds quicker than those watching will like.

These new owners if and when they do walk through the front doors at ibrox, will not be so accommodating as the current board of directors used to be.

So the turmoil and resistance from those in the stands will serve no purpose whatsoever, you see the new owners will just ignore and carry on their work of starting to recuperate the money from day one.

The other thing which was touched uon by Phil, is what is normally accepted by everyone in Scotland, is the usual banned songs that are the normal for this lot in the stands, they will not take to kindly being told to stop singing their favourite Billy boys bigotry and sectarian claptrap, the new owners will not be so accommodating as the existing board are, no deaf ears within the blue room, so the fight could turn ugly, but the ones doing the fighting might find themselves isolated very quickly, just as they were a few weeks ago in their attempted walkout during a match, not many regulars wanted to join them on that unforgettable and wasteful day.

So much to look forward to if this ever takes off, the only people who seem to believe every single thing our so called Scottish media report, of it already a done deal, millions of dosh just waiting to be spent this summer, they could be in for one huge disappointment, and they do not take disappointment very well do the ibrox faithful..more walking away during the early days of the new consortium baptism of fire, baptisms aren’t usually liked either, as it’s their heads that will be under the water just like the wee cute babes they are.

    • The problem for the new owners though is the money they expect to make comes from the bigoted fan base who will disappear very swiftly if their bigotry isn’t tolerated
