The international break is always a good time to take stock on club matters.
It also helps your humble correspondent blank out what happened at Wembley last night.
That’s the denial part, dear reader!
Down to ten men in the second half and a goal from a penalty, I rapidly progressed through the five stages of the “This could be a real thrashing” range of emotions.
Where would we be without the forensic wisdom of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross?
The word search on this site yielded this piece of mine from June 2012.
Given that the funeral of the original Rangers has only recently been concluded, it was interesting to read my own work here from a dozen years ago.
The local media stated confidently throughout 2011 that there was nothing to worry about at Ibrox.
There is nothing new about Operation Soothe.
This excoriating eulogy to the Dead Club by the brilliant Alan Morrison states unpalatable truths that the local media dare not utter.
He states that UEFA’s new FSR ordinances are forcing the new Rangers club to live within their means.
The import of this is that they can only be Simply The Second Best in the post-2012 epoch.
Some of the poor dears are, ever so slowly, starting to process this.
However, let’s start with this beautiful example of pishful thinking.
My my, the denial is strong in this one.
This is what an evidence-resistant subculture produces.
It’s quite sad.
The reality is there is NOTHING cyclical about what happened at the creditors meeting in June 2012 at the stadium John Brown played for.
What happened was that the administrators, having failed to get an agreement from creditors, were compelled by law to sign the death warrant of the original Rangers.
For the avoidance of doubt, the default setting in the SPFL is that Celtic are champions.
Anything else is aberrant, atypical.
It remains to be seen what the Ibrox klanbase will look like if and when the majority of them arrive at acceptance of the reality of Sevco as permanently second best in Scotland.
The reference to Everton is apposite from this quintessentially British chap.
Perhaps he read this last May.
Alas, there is no coming to consciousness without pain.
It is encouraging that at least some of them are progressing through the stages of grief.
Is Nils Koppen Flemish for no Trophies?
Asking for a friend.
The only thing ‘cyclical’ at ibrox is in the trophy room:
the celebrated St. Etienne bike!
sevco is on a straight line, terminal trajectory,
and, as with the old club before,
the only question is “when?”
It’s incredible how the sevco shambles has survived this long…
I wonder if we should do a cover version of simply the best should we win on December 15th?
The insight of the insider is always extremely instructive – both Walter Smith and Donald Findlay publicly opined that the club currently playing out of iBrox is a new club and thus not ‘Rangers’ in the original sense. Unlike others, I’m quite the connoisseur of tribute bands – I like that you can go and see a very close facsimile of an act you really enjoy playing all the hits. It’s enjoyable even though deep down, you understand that it’s just some walloper up on the stage pretending to be somebody famous for an hour or two at a time – an act, which is why ‘the tribute act’ is the most accurate description of Sevco. Jarvis Cocker should work ‘like Rangers since 2012’ into the lyrics of Pulp’s “Bad Cover Version” which lists a whole load of things which just aren’t what they used to be.
I remember too well in the 90’s the mocking by all including BBC Radio… do I feel sorry for them 😂😂😂😂🇮🇪 Naw
I will never, ever, ever, forget where I first heard the phrase, “distressed goods”!😂
Those who have protested the same club mythology for the past 12 years are suddenly realising nothing could be further from the truth. Now that’s irony.
And a very fitting Eulogy it was. It is great to have sites like yours and the Huddle guys to consistently get the truth out there regarding the delinquent mob. I wonder if we’ll see anything from sevco on the matter 🤔
Aberdeen anyone?
“cycles come and go” suggested one of those blue chaps. Very true. However, the Rangers cycle is a penny farthing whilst the Celtic cycle is a top of the range Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 Road Bike 2025 in Interstellar.
I had to check twice that the headliner wasn’t Kübler-Ross County.
The disparity between Celtic and Sevco will grow assuming the Celtic board continue to invest in the playing squad to ensure decent and improving results in Europe and simultaneously maintaining domestic dominance. As more Sevco fans realise the new normal they will walk away. Let’s see what the attendances are like at Ibrox in 2025.
