Brendan and the Beeb

With the end of Mickey B’s reign of error, there has been a lot of revisionism in the local media about Sevco’s latest managerial casualty.

The consensus among the local media was that Beale was such a formidable chap in the dugout that Brendan’s second term at Celtic would be much more demanding than his first spell in charge.

Indeed, Tom English of the BBC was on message in June of this year with this:

“Postecoglou took over a mess, rebuilt an entire team and won his titles with 93 and 99 points. And he did it with a much stronger closest rival than Rodgers ever had. Postecoglou will be a hard act to follow.

“Rodgers will find the domestic landscape more challenging than before. He’s a terrific manager and you’d expect him to add considerably to Celtic’s trophy haul, but it won’t be so easy this time.

“Celtic fans knock great fun out of mocking their city rivals but Rangers are way stronger now than they ever were during Rodgers’ first stint.”

So, last June, Sevco were “way stronger“?

Really?

Of course, it was pishful thinking.

Rodgers is an elite-level manager with hundreds of games under his belt.

Conversely, Beale is a work experience spoofer who conned the klan with his bloviating.

Regular readers will know that the saga of Mickey B and the inevitable denouement have been accurately reported here since he was appointed.

Recently, I’ve been reporting on the Blue Room manoeuvres to raise the cash to pay him off.

If I get the details of that severance package, I will report them here.

Now that the ex-QPR legend has left the building, the narrative can change to come into alignment with reality.

So today, according to Mr English, Beale was merely a “fast-talking rookie”.

Agreed, and I’ve been writing that since he was appointed.

However, it was the same chap in charge of Sevco in June when Mr English wrote his piece about the much-changed situation at Ibrox Rodgers had to contend with.

When you can remain faithful to the Orwellian lie that Rangers didn’t die in 2012, then talking up Beale’s Sevco when Brendan returned is no biggie.

Moreover, when it comes to re-writing history, Mr English has previous.

Doesn’t he just?

  1. Neither English or Keevins have crystal balls and should leave the predictions to someone wearing large earrings and a boho scarf.

How can anyone/everyone take this pair seriously? HH

  3. The entire Scottish football press have shown themselves to be the eejits we all knew they were.
One minute hailing the genius of Beale and the very next joining in the ridicule being heaped on poor Mickey.
Will the next incumbent be heralded as the next big thing or will the Scottish press refrain from the bigging up of the new management team till such times as they actually win a few games?

  4. It also appears, now, that none of the pundits or Sevco fans really liked Beale at all.

He was, apparently, very disrespectful to wee Van Bronky by turning up at Ibrox and local watering holes, while Gio was still in situ.

But none of them ever thought about mentioning it until now.

They say history is written by the victors but, in this case, the vanquished are giving it a go.

  5. Funny how the previously gushing Stenography Corps turned on Beale before he was sacked at the weekend, it’s almost as if they were in on the fact the money was being scrambled together by those in the Blue Room to punt Beale and his backroom staff since after the Celtic game but were the refs in on it too?
The only thing Aberdeen didn’t get on Saturday was a penalty but was surprised to see a home red given and no 2nd look at any of the Aberdeen goals for possible infringements that could have resulted in a goal being disallowed.

  6. Utterly shameless from English, who was a fanboy from Beale’s apppointment, after the reign of, er, wee Bronky that brought only a miserly Scottish Cup and a Europa League final.

After the 1st game, a sclaffed 3-2 home win against a poor Hibs, achieved due to “honest mistakes” for them and against Hibs (how unfortunate), he wrote that Beale “had answered all questions”.

Just imagine, what the reaction would be, if a new Celtic manager’s reigh had got off to such an inauspicious start.

The Govan Gobshite then followed that up with comments that would make David Brent cringe but the bold Tom labelled him “eloquent” and “loquacious”.

With his egg-chasing jolly likely to end this weekend, another Irish team putting paid to his dreams, it’ll be back to bigging up the latest Ibrox incumbent, until they’re inevitably jettisoned and he dumps on him and rewrites history all over again.

  7. Just to put things in perspective Phil . Yesterday we The Ryder Cup from Rome Italy . We also had the Prix de l’arc de Triomph from Paris France . Then there was the Rugby World Cup in France too . Here in Scawlin we had Sportsound on the radio with Kenny the Miller getting interviewed from home on the mobile with a young kid crying in the background …. I’ll bet you are glad you are in Ireland ? I wish I was !

  8. I read today that Beale had the 2nd best record of any Sevco/Rangers manager.

I’ve checked it and yip, it’s true,

When I checked on Wikipedia, it puts him third, but I think you have to discount
” Willie Thornton” who only managed for 2 games/11 days.

So, the team playing out of Ibrox have just sacked their second best manager ever just because he lost a couple of games !!!

Mr Beale is 2nd, behind Mr Alistair McCoist who just pipped Mr Beale

    McCoist win rate: 72.46
    Beale win rate: 72.09

When you consider that McCoist managed Sevco through the bottom tiers of Scottish Football, playing painters, mechanics and barbers as they went, his record really needs to be taken with a pinch of salt and down graded by several percent.

So, to recap, the team playing out of Ibrox just sacked their most successful manager EVER.

    Couldn’t make it up

  9. Quite. BUT the next manager of Ibrox WILL be the genius Beale ought to have been and the MSM will be flabbergasted as to how no other club had the foresight and magnetism to land such a prodigious talent. Brendan had better watch out!

  10. Doublethink from a half-wit. Cannot take that man seriously, you can hear the grinding of dentures when he is forced to pay Celtic a compliment.
Shame Del-boy’s gone, with his tactical nous they’d have struggled to finish third.
Oh well, it’s almost pantomime season right enough, which Cinderella will turn into an ugly sister next?
    Tune in to find out!
