Walter Smith

We do not get to choose how we are remembered when we pass on.

Today the tributes to the sad news that Walter Smith had died were genuine and heartfelt, and it was clear evidence just how much he touched those who knew him.

The one that nailed it for me was this from the Derry Pele.

That is redolent of someone who was grounded and decent.

My thoughts are with Ethel and the family.

Requiescat in pace.

  1. I went to school with his eldest at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh and his lad was a lovely humble guy, never acted like Billy Big baws, just like his dad. Terrible loss, RIP x

  2. Seems to have been a very personable man.
He was however at the very heart of the biggest malfeasance in Scottish footballing history, to the detriment of the other clubs, and tarnished the reputation of the Scottish game. (Only outside of Scotland of course)

  3. Respect given to the man. All Celtic players and managers have shown great humanity and respect to him.

The rangers* fans are showing gratitude to the tributes given.

It may enlighten them in how good Tommy burns and Walter were as people and friends

However give them a couple of days and Tommy Byrns Nd Jock Stein will be slandered and slaughtered by them

  4. A fine and decent remembering of a fine and decent man. His actions and those of Ally McCoist at TBs funeral ensure their respect. RIP Walter Smith.

  5. He was a man of honesty and integrity and admitted that as a young man he had stood on the terraces and sang songs that he was embarrassed about. He also introduced many of us to the term Protestant Superiority Complex and was clearly embarrassed by the weight of it.

He will however, be forever in our debt for the day that day when he tore Chick Young a new one:

    • He introduced the Protestant superior complex????
So Walter during the 90s, an era he signed Amoruso,Boli and also numerous other italians had this complex????

Tommy burns loved him as did Peter Grant

MON on talksport, gave a warming account of his relationship as did our Neil.

      Sleep well Mr. Smith

      • I don’t think Joe Bhoy is saying that Walter had the supremacy complex.

He’s probably referring to the Graham Spiers article from Scotland on Sunday from 1995 when he was quoted as saying ..
“There is a Protestant superiority syndrome around here, you can feel it sometimes…”.

Correct me if I’m wrong Joe.

    • I suspect Tommy did this in the hope that it might make many of the bampots on both sides of the fence pause and think for a moment.

Unfortunately it was only a moment, and those same bampots are incapable of sustaining or retaining a rational thought.

Well God has some management team now. Tommy and Walter………….as assistants to big Jock.
