Blue passports and brown beaches

As regular readers will know, I have repeatedly stated that Brexit would turn out to be a total shitshow for the Brits.

However, I didn’t expect it to be so literally the case!

Forget about Anthony’s Eden’s career-ending foreign adventure in 1956; this is now a slow-moving sewage crisis.

You can read the background here in this Guardian piece.

Of course, it wasn’t meant to be like this.

The Brexiteers rhapsodised about sunlit uplands, but no one mentioned shit covered beaches.

Now, the Brits still might want to sing about the brown cliffs of Dover and get all erotic about Spitfires.

Moreover, no doubt Boris will get all Churchillian and tell his adoring tribe that they will shite them on the beaches.

In fairness, hostilities have already broken out in the petrol queues.

For the avoidance of doubt, we in Ireland have a legitimate vested interest in these floating turds as we’re a neighbouring coastal state.

If the Brits are turning their environment into a toilet, then it impacts us too.

However, just like Brexit itself, all we can do is look on aghast as our neighbour slides deeper into the excrement.

I know that I’m fortunate to have Machaire Rabhartaigh a short distance from my door.

With every passing day, I’m moved to remark to the bean chéile that we made the right move a quarter of a century ago.

This is where our brood grew up, and my trio of Donegalies knows little of Britain.

Delusions of greatness and exceptionalism and more than a bit of xenophobia launched the Brexit odyssey in 2016.

Meanwhile, the rest of us just look on wearily with a mixture of sadness and schadenfreude and wonder when this, well excrement exhibition will hit rock bottom.

Like Brexit itself, Britain’s brown coastline is an all British affair.

Nota bene:

More on the Ibrox shitshow tomorrow…

  1. On the shit covered beaches thing Phil.
Once again you highlight the true nature of what is going on in Politics both in Westminster (or should that now be Westmingstir ? ) regarding the pollution being piped into waters around the Coastline.
Well having looked at it a wee bit closer (under the rim if you like ) as per usual there is a wee bit more to it,
First report I came across through my YouTube feed was a News bulletin on Southern Water by SKY News.
Southern Water was Privatised many moons ago along with a great chunk of our other Nationalised Industries.
Interesting enough Southern Water deliver their Services to a sizeable chunk of the population who tend to Vote Tory Geographically but even more interesting is the fact it is controlled by several companies mainly: JP Morgan USA 40%
UBS Asset Management SWISS BANKING 22%
    Hermes Infrastructure Fund USA 21%
    Whitehelm Capital U.K. / AUSTRALIA 8%

The old adage of not shitting on your own doorstep would seem to be applicable here.
Given it is not their doorstep ,he’ll it’s not even their Country.
It would seem the the whole Thatcher thing has come full circle as she took the piss ,delivered some shit and now those who voted for her and her Neoliberal Agenda are stuck up shit creek without a paddle.

  5. Instead of knocking the “Cheap labour” foreigners, perhaps you should direct your caustic remarks to the scumbag BRITISH employers who were breaking UK employment law by paying employees LESS than the minimum wage.

    • One of those occasions where reading twice before commenting once should have been applied.
I’m raising the subject of exploitation of foreign Labour 8n order to make a point about both Employers and the EU who have been quite happily milking this situation for decades.
Hence why ordinary families in the U.K. are now feeling the effects of those same workers returning home to better pay and a cheaper cost of living.
God bless them and good luck to them hopefully they will never be in a position to be exploited again?
Though in Europe that’s never a given is it?

Which is and was my point.

  6. Saying goodbye to our lovely European neighbours (cheap labour courtesy of the EU Thatcherites) was never going to easy.
Meanwhile in Donegal the houses are falling down 🤷🏻‍♂️

      • All scandals should be rightly highlighted Phil and you do a great job in shin8ng a light where as we know many in your industry (especially in Scotland and England) simply don’t.
Take this particular scandal that’s been going on for decades in Europe

        https://balkaninsight.com/2020/12/17/irish-dream-turns-to-nightmare-for-eastern-european-seasonal-workers/

The more you lift the lid the more detritus seems to overflow in and out of Europe 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s all smoke and mirrors Phil I’m sure you are aware that when you follow the money it inevitably all leads to the same doors.
They are all in it for themselves you see and very few who put themselves forward for the top jobs are actually any different.
Greed is always at the core of the issue.

  8. The Shite Cliffs of Dover. Can’t recall seeing that on the side of a bus. I do recall the utter shite that was on there though. And in der Führage and co’s campaign shiterature. Still if you believe a career liar like the Charity Shop Churchill and a snake oil salesman like Farage there’s no helping you.
