The Sevco summer sale is now on

“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticise”.

There is some dispute about whether or not Voltaire actually said this.

However, it matters not a jot because it is certainly true.

As regular readers will undoubtedly be aware, there is something akin to a multi-generational ordinance around asking difficult questions at Ibrox.

Consequently, when someone breaks that unwritten rule, it is newsworthy.

Mikey Stewart is an honourable outlier as the ex-Manchester United player has realised that the only question worth asking is the one that they don’t want to answer.

In the aftermath of the Malmo victory last night, he wasn’t slow with his analysis on Twitter.

Of course, the evidence is already out there in the words of Stewart Robertson from last year.

It is undeniable that the Off License Putsch could not have succeeded without a compliant local media.

Such craven obedience has a long history at Ibrox.

Throughout the Murray years at the original Rangers and then Off The Radar Craig Whyte and onto Charlie and the boys at Sevco.

The sports desks have been cheerleaders for whoever controls the home dressing room at Ibrox.

That has actually compounded the problems because there was no serious scrutiny about what was going on under successive regimes.

The fact that much of the accurate reporting fell to an NUJ member in another country says a lot about the Fitba Fourth Estate in Fair Caledonia.

So here is the news:

Last night, in the immediate aftermath of the Malmo game, there was an impromptu meeting of some of the Sevco High Command.

That dignified conclave then reconvened today at lunchtime.

The only item on the agenda was finance.

Firstly, the  Cinch deal debacle was briefly discussed as it could land the club with another substantial bill.

As ever, Stewart was a voice of reason amid the dignified delusions.

Then the main event was the pressing need for cash.

At that point, the Director of fantasy was then called in and given his orders.

He was told that the club requires a minimum of £20m from him by the window’s close.

My information is that NO player is off-limits.

Of course, there have to be willing buyers for Mr Gerrard’s charges.

I’m told that Alfredo Morelos has one interested club.

No doubt, if a sale is concluded for €6.5m with add ons (€1.5-€2m), it will be announced as a non-disclosed fee.

The usual suspects will be tipped off that it was at least €13m.

Dear reader, if we Follow Follow the money, then the situation is clear.

Dave wants his loan repaid and without further delay (£10m).

It would be a real shame if he had recently stopped taking calls from the Sevco High Command and instructed the King family trust to get lawyered up about the matter.

Hector is also owed a similar sum.

The thing is, all of this is known to the chaps, on the sports desks.

However, they know who they are not allowed to question, let alone criticise.

  1. Breaking news: Stevie G, quoted in the Daily Record – I know – says that if the right money comes in, he knows he’ll have to ‘recycle’ players. Not ‘sell’ – ‘recycle’. Who was his obfuscation tutor, Jock ‘Di Canio wasn’t sold, he was traded’ Brown?

  2. I hope that nice Mr Ashley chap receives what he’s owed before sevco do a Rankers and bin all their debts before rising from the ashes once again. HH

  3. One other point of note is that presumably, they would want “cash up front” from any interested parties, as opposed to the customary “instalment plan”, further reducing the price. 20M is a big ask, especially in those circumstances.

  4. Is anyone asking what happens if they can’t sell?

In case anyone forgot, due to cv19 we have an economy running off magicked up cash and furlough etc is being pulled, everyone expects a large drop off in economic activity. Most clubs will be running on fumes and signing fees should in theory be lower or non existent.

The US federal reserve might have to stop there low IR scam way ahead of schedule with dire consequences for the overstretch and over levered.

May sevco live in interesting times 😂

  5. it was my understanding that the club placed gerrard on a new contract after they saw what we got for rodgers was it about 8m or 9m and that contract had a similar clause inserted so are stevie gerrard and his back room staff actually the best emloyees to sell who will garner the most money in

  6. Google news feed – The Sun (I know) On Sevco losses since 2012 – 83m, The losses for the year to June 2021 are expected to be in the region of £25m. Dave King has a £5m loan that is due for repayment by the end of October, if he is repaid the club has to repay the Scottish Government the £3.2m interest free loan that they received earlier this year.

  7. Big Mike no far away, he wont lose out and the last kit manufacturers and distributers booty also when they were duped. Like before the compliant media buddies are supplying the torch for the bonfire to come.

Few more bad results and they may be shutting stands down for Santa coming. Bigger threat of that when they lose a few key players.

Who have sevco sold in their short existence for the most money? I am struggling with that, have they got into the millions for anyone?

  8. Surely with money owed to clubs for players brought in last season any players sold those monies will need to be used to make those payments which won’t leave much to keep the lights on, have they paid Liverpool any of the transfer fee for Kent?

  9. Everyone now seems to acknowledge there will be a fire sale at Ibrox , even the loyal stenographers have given up trying to paint a rosy picture. The problem with this is those clubs who may be interested in buying will be playing hardball with their offers, the players themselves will realise that a downsizing will lead to fewer win bonus’ and lower valuations . Agents will smell the blood and tapping up players will lead to transfer requests being submitted and any new contracts rejected . Gerrard himself may realise that the party is over and look for opportunities elsewhere.
Not much news on the share issue so we can assume it wasn’t a resounding success , borrowing had previously been in house in order to keep control of the shares so outsourcing it would suggest the Directors were not prepared to dig any deeper. Those CL riches now seem further away than ever , if they came up short with a full squad then they are unlikely to get there after flogging their most valuable assets . Those Directors may stump up just enough to keep the lights on but I doubt it will be enough to keep Gerrard or the fans happy . What was that saying about a “house of cards” ?

  10. 1) I assume Gerrard will be looking for a job down south now as I can’t see why he’d want to stay at Ibrox without the Champions League (or the CL money).
    2) Where is Big Mike and his court case? Now would be a good time for him to step up and send them into oblivion.

    • Yes, seems like a quick way to cut the Ibrox wage bill, and maybe bring in some money – is to ‘invite’ Gerrard to leave?

Like Rodgers to Lennon, downgrade the manager to a cheap, compliant and grateful alternative, like an ex-Ibrox player.
