A dignified byline underlines the truth of Sevco’s financial predicament

My exclusive on the emergency meeting of the Sevco High Command this afternoon was published today at 5.45 pm.

Less than an hour ago, I’m told that this amazing scoop appeared on the Herald website.

Chapeau.

Dear reader, your humble correspondent has more than a decade of telling uncomfortable truths to the Ibrox klanbase.

There is a well-formed pattern in which my journalism is initially disbelieved by The People and then vindicated by subsequent events.

When the excrement inevitably comes into contact with the air conditioning at Edmiston Drive, the Ibrox klanbase bleat that no one warned them!

Ah, if only there were an independent investigative journalist who wasn’t reliant on official access to Ibrox and could do some of that pesky journalism stuff.

If only…

Although my piece was full of well-sourced detail, I suspect that the klan might be better disposed to believe Mr Jack’s rather more generalised output on the subject, especially given his associations with the Rainjurzz franchise.

Here is the key section:

It is surely inevitable that a key player, or perhaps more than one, will be sold off as a result of their failure on Tuesday night.

It is no secret that Mr Jack has excellent sources within Ibrox.

Perhaps his piece, because of the dignified byline, will help to psychologically prepare the klan for some horrible news coming down the pipe.

I wish him well in his intrepid investigations into Sevco’s finances.

  1. No matter how much debt they are in all the stops will be pulled out to ensure they win the league and get automatic qualification next year cue honest mistakes on an industrial scale!!!!

  2. The ‘Herald’ was once a proper newspaper…
The goto read for my parents.

The fact that the main Ibrokes media puppet is having stories printed in it only further highlights its journalistic demise.

Thankfully nobody in my family has touched the rag let alone paid for it in over 12 years.

Can we assume they paid the £25 k ? Or does Mr Jacks season ticket get him access ?

    • I cancelled it decades ago when they were planning to give Donald Find lay a column. It really has crashed and burned as predicted by many.

  3. Surely Rangers don’t need to be too concerned about the financial implications of their CL exit as they will still have the Cinch sponsorship money coming in.

  4. Morelos will be off for about 4 million now. And to think they “turned down” 20 million a couple of years ago. Kent… They’ll be lucky to make their 7 million back. Kamara will make a small profit, going for 2 million or so. I’m not sure who else they have that will be wanted. Lots of old heads. Patterson definitely a prospect, but he’s young and has minimal first team experience so can’t command a huge fee.

Also they don’t have previous for selling success, or at high price. They may further suffer from the open secret that they need the money. Why wouldn’t you low ball in those circumstances? They could see their squad decimated without much financial compensation. I would be pretty worried if that was my team.

  5. Gerrard wanted 2 players for every position, he has his two teams but they are mostly filled with average to mediocre players. Mostly lower English Championship or Div 1 standard. Tough selling that lot, already on a bloated payroll.
The manager’s heart and soul is in Liverpool; you could tell by the expression on his face that his dream job is disappearing over the horizon.

    • If someone or some outside entity is willing to cover the ongoing losses then the loss-making business can continue indefinitely.

      • I don’t see the news here. The Board Strategy is clear. Gamble to Stop 10 and increase player values by having a winning team and get a crack at CL qualification. Then use player sales or CL money to stem losses. The gamble has paid off. They have half a dozen excellent players they could now sell at a very good profit. Celtic have sold several so will they. It’s obvious. You don’t need to be some genius or have investigative powers to spot this . Phil is also correct that they are nowhere near administration or liquidation with player assets and a supportive Board.

        • The gamble has only paid off to the extent they stopped 10IAR but what at cost – they are in a huge financial mess all of their own making – I agree they won’t go into administration but they are going to be downsizing big time very soon as they wont be able to sell their assets for the inflated fees they think they’re worth due to the worldwide financial crisis caused by COVID (look at the last 18months transfer fees worldwide e.g they want £20m for Morelos – they’ll be lucky to get £8m for him etc etc) so they will plug the gap with sales and then be left with a very average squad made up of journeymen and kids because can’t afford to buy decent replacements. Their owners are not going to/cannot keep funding them as they are not THAT wealthy – they are simply rich c/f the average man in the street, they are not the Abu Dhabi Royal Family or Abramovich.

    • ‘Scoop’ or plagiarism? If Chris Jack ever had an original thought he’s kept it to himself for all of his career. The joys of this season are sweetened by the bitterness of the last one.

  6. The Problem they might now face is the media becoming uncooperative as they can no longer control the narrative.

If Rangers continue to demand 25k for access to interviews or have any scoops and the media are refusing to pay.

They still have to sell papers and if they ha e no access to the club the. The journalists may ha e to do some investigative journalism and may actually start printing some truths forcing them to allow them back in to control the narrative again.

After years of the media playing cosy with them, printing only fluff to stay on the good side, the club still throws them to the wolves and starve them of any stories.
We may now be entering the time where the media start poking back,

A game of who blinks first.

    • I think you might find that investigative journalism requires some effort, unlikely that any of Glasgow’s journalists will be up for it.

    • If Chris Jack is joining in with the ‘players must be sold’ line then he’s not doing it without a nod from someone in the know at Ibrox.
Ashley, HMRC, Cinch and SFA action(aye right), the King loan, instalments due on player purchases, monthly running costs continuing to add to the annual loss!
Yes, so far over the last few years the board have stepped up and covered the annual losses being wracked up.
However the current financial year is heading for a record deficit that only a player/players sale can impact on.
Unlike Craig Whyte none of the current board are in the billionaire category and with banks tightening the noose on loans the access to cash will become more difficult.
Morelos is the obvious player to be sold before the window closes but in the current climate his transfer fee might not be top dollar.
Cue outrage from their fans as their top goal scorer exits stage left with, at best, an inferior player brought in as a replacement with the Celtic game looming.
      Interesting couple of weeks ahead.
