A while back, the chaps in the North Curve warned the Celtic board that they should not be asleep at the wheel.
Well, they’re not sleeping, as they are obviously in a coma!
Today I was sent this by an ex-Celtic employee:
“You can draw a direct line between Lawwell, his son, Fergal Harkin and Postecoglou. This could be our Caixinha moment.”
For the avoidance of doubt, I have no opinion on the managerial abilities of Mr Postecoglou.
What we DO know is that he wasn’t the first choice for the vacant position and that up until a couple of days ago, the preferred candidate was Eddie Howe.
Despite this ongoing shitshow, there are still those in the Celtic blogosphere who are still Kool-Aid dependent.
Pre-season training is only weeks away.
The Celtic board must be the toast of the Sevco High Command.
This is a case study of hubris on steroids.
I do not know what a 21st century “Celts For Change” looks like.
However, I’m interested to find out and soon.

A bun fight suggests a back and forth exchange on a debatable subject. There is no debate and you would have no buns in your armoury. Shareholders appoint directors. Directors appoint CEOs and all other senior posts. The suggestion that the CEO should threaten to resign if those who appointed him don’t is preposterous emotional tripe. Not only would he be shown the door immediately he would never work again in such a position.
The solution is simple. Get enough people to buy enough shares to then implement their own strategy. A simple majority would allow that so get saving. If that’s the way you want to go I’ll give you a leg up and sell you my shares at a small discount. They have increased in value significantly since I bought them due to proper financial running of the club so I could afford a discount because if anyone with your strategy got in charge the share price would certainly plummet and the club would be in debt up to its ears. But I suppose the solution to that is easy too. Abandon the debt, liquidate the club and restart as The Celtic. Try that and see where the old club’s history and European Cup win goes.
Emotional responses are usually characterised by letting the heart rule the head and reacting without thinking things through. I thought through my response. I considered the performance of the sevco directors, compared it to ours and came to the conclusion that our directors are doing a more professional job. I simple supplied evidence of the sevco director’s performance. The emotional response here is the “sack people, do something, make grand futile gestures” response coming through from your post.
So, give us names Bob. Who on the board? Who as the manager? What players should we buy and what budget do you want to give the manager? Bear in mind there is an economic crisis under way and we didn’t have a fan in the ground all season. I doubt we will get the sane support for the virtual season ticket next season if it comes to that.

I’m not going to defend the Celtic board after the Eddie Howe debacle but I do think some sections of the support are being disrespectful to Posteclogou. Any managerial appointment is a gamble and now that the Celtic board have made it so obvious he is 2nd choice it will be even harder for him, but he is a guy with International experience at World cup level, has won 3 titles in Australia and one in Japan. I know that some supporters will not rate these Leagues very high but World football doesn’t rate the Scottish League highly either.
in periods during the past 20 years in my opinion Celtic have had 3 very good managers in Martin O’Neil Gordon Strachan and Brendan Rodgers but I don’t see any manager of this calibre being available and willing to come to Scotland.
The supporters who are pushing for some kind of season ticket boycott in an attempt to bring down the board had better be in for the long haul as I think it would result in around 10 years of chaos and take the club down a slippery slope of failure.
I have supported Celtic for over 70 years and in football terms they have given me some fantastic highs and some painful lows, thats what makes football such a great sport. The element of the support who are nearly having a collective nervous breakdown because of one disastrous season should grow up . I and my family will be renewing our season tickets as we don’t think starving the club of money is the answer, we will be supporting the new manager whoever he is because we are Celtic supporters through good times and bad and wish the new Manager and new CEO lots of success.

I think you misunderstand the structure at any business. The board of directors appoint the CEO. The CEO does not have the authority to sack board members.
Who in particular do you want sacked? The ones that print shares like confetti? The ones that allow spending at an unsustainable level? The ones who break contracts then find the club in court exposed to unknown penalties? The ones who threaten to litigate against people calling out sectarian singing by their own players? The ones who release statements my 10 year old could write better? The ones who appointed an under 18’s coach, gave him 3 years for the return of 1 domestic trophy in 9 which was beaten my St Johnstone in one season? Oops, sorry. That’s sevco’s board I was thinking about.
Maybe the Celtic board who have the club on solid financial ground and oversaw a quadruple treble. A feat never even thought possible and not nearly approached at any time in Scottish football.
Get over yourself with the “sack the directors” guff. Unprecedented success in the last 4 years. Bad decisions last year but show me someone who doesn’t make mistakes and I’ll show you someone who does nothing.

The emotional response above could come straight from a CFC Director!
But you do capture the perennial problem at CFC: we don’t invest when we are winning, we always take the foot off the gas.
There is no room for sentinentality.
The new CEO is perfectly placed to exploit this latest shambles to sort out the incompetents on the Board.
Offering to resign if Bankier and others don’t should be an effective starting point for Mckay…
The only observation which can be made with some certainty is;
the current Board is unfit for purpose and its members should NOT be trusted to find someone/anyone for the STILL vacant manager’s role.
And this is where our new CEO needs to show the support exactly what he is made of: a brutal but necessary cull of Directors could be item no.1 on his agenda.

As much as I like your posts Phil over the years I’m afraid your not best qualified to pick or choose our next manager. It’s OK lambasting Pedro or Warburton in hindsight or the fact they were up against a better equipped celtic side… But you constantly told of how an under 17 Liverpool coach was never good enough in Glasgow. But over 3 years he has improved his team every year to the point they were were playing us of the park all last season and even in the league Cup which we somehow won… I know you said only celtic could beat celtic but history only records winners.. Slippy like Brendan beat what was in front of him and you can’t ask anymore from a manager…and on a much lesser budget than celtic have.. He also proved his credentials in Europe where we again failed terribly with a few hidings. There is no denying with a bit time and luck he came good. Now we have to rise to that challenge with a new manager of our own. Hopefully he’s given a chance whoever it is and not destroyed by our own before a ball is even kicked.. Ange is a winner and has proved that at dometic and international level with free flowing attacking football. Keep up the good work Phil but your not manager picking material.
