I’m told that a person in the Celtic PR Department has been phoning around this afternoon in an attempt to put the best possible topspin on an utter disaster.
It was always a worry that the Eddie Howe saga would end like this despite the very positive noises coming from several club sources.
The firefighting from the Celtic PR Department today is that they are in “advanced talks with other candidates”.
Sorry, I can’t swallow that one.
The real fear is that there never was a Plan B.
Celtic once basked in the reflected glory of being a well-run business.
Now there are less than two months to assemble a manager, backroom team and playing squad to tackle matches that are worth £30m.
It is at times like this that you are grateful for having one of the highest-paid CEOs in British sport on hand to deal with such a shitshow.
If Celtic were allowing Howe to have an input into what players were coming and going without having his signature on a contract then it looks like amateur hour.

Addendum
The Parkhead club just issued this statement.
Following very positive and detailed discussions with Eddie Howe, with the belief that he would be an excellent candidate for the position of Celtic Manager, we allowed time for the process, given he’d previously made it clear he was not looking to return to management until this summer at the earliest.
We can now confirm that Eddie will not be joining the Club, for reasons outwith both his and Celtic’s control.
We wish Eddie success for the future.
As part of the ongoing process we have engaged with a number of candidates. We fully appreciate our fans will be seeking clarity on this matter and we aim, very shortly, to announce the appointment of a Manager with the quality and desire to take Celtic forward and bring further success to our supporters.
Quite frankly, that reeks of amateur hour.

Totally farcical Celtic board I could see in August that this season was going to be a disaster and yet kept manager till February replaced him with someone more incompetent now this we are a laughing stock and looks like league going to Ibrox for the foreseeable future
It is an extraordinary state of affairs. I will only manage if I can bring an entourage. Codependency football style?. There is a difference between having the opportunity to pick you own backroom team and insisting on having all of them. Or? Nothing. The idea that 4/5 individuals, as a group, were simply going to uproot their lives from down south, and move to Glasgow was fanciful. Celtic may have expected that Howe had talked to these people informally even if they could not due to their contract situations. It was surely reasonable to expect that at least one of them would say no. To wait months under those conditions does not make sense. There is some geographical and cultural distance between Bournemouth and Glasgow as recent events show

This is farcical, Desmond & the Board are treating the support with utter contempt and the club as a cash cow and after today’s events we are now becoming a laughing stock.
Celtic FC have the greatest support in the world proud of their clubs history and the great managers & players that have graced Parkhead. This Board is taking those same supporters for fools– enough is enough this Howe debacle is the final straw in a year that the Club should have created even more history but failed miserably in every department. Desmond needs to get a grip of all departments in this great club very quickly and get rid of the dead wood I for one have had enough of him being an absentee Landlord time for action now!
All goes back to why Brendan left.
1 Agree total shambles in line with last twelve months. Allowing all this time was just terrible Managemnt by our leadership. Terrible.
2 He took months to agree and that is always a bad sign. I am glad we didn’t get him for that reason alone. If you need such time and have such doubts you are the wrong person.
3 He left Burnley for personal reasons including being away from family In the South. How an Earth was Glasgow ever going to work.
4 Lawwell, Bankier and Desmond. Shambolic leadership. What a legacy your are leaving ale a long hard look in the Mirror. Also New CEO this was your chance to land and show you can make a difference. Clearly you cannot. You will learn that just before you arrive and just after you arrive are your most powerful moments. Act or you will be gone quickly if this continues.
5 I ask again As a Celtic fan …. do you prefer the Celtic Board or the Rangers* Board? It is now clear which board is performing better and doing the right thing for their club and team and supporters. And it’s not Celtic’s Board.
Time for major change in our Celtic Board they have failed.
Do I want a board who are financially irresponsible, need mega loans to keep the lights on and issue shares like confetti?

Could be a blessing in disguise. Howe was always going to be a gamble. Absolutely zero experience at a club where coming second is last.

Well first up…It’s been going on far too long to be cut and dried…it always reeked of indecision…and “mystery.”
Secondly…As a Club…Its what we do…and we’re good at it.
Sad but true.
Feck knows what happens now…total disaster.
And who can blame him? It’s a poisoned chalice.
It’s a rare day when our club doesn’t shoot itself in the foot. This disaster is just another in a long line of disasters that started with keeping NFL in a job that he clearly wasn’t up to, chalking up loss after loss in Europe and losing an historic 10iar to the floating scum, sevco.
Getting it wrong consistently has put us top of the league of total incompetence.

It was a recklessly risky move to put all their eggs in one basket, without a signed contract.
Only positive out of this mess is that Chairman Bankier has no choice but to fall on his sword immediately.
And the new CEO now has a position of strength to get rid of the rest of the deadwood on the Board in due course…
