Celtic’s highly paid CEO has finally broken his silence on the Dubai debacle.
The video, which lasts 4 minutes 51 seconds, is in keeping with the work experience PR effort at Parkhead.
Like the Dubai trip itself, the decision-making process that went into this firefighting exercise is deeply flawed.
I thought that the Celtic CEO looked visibly shaken in the video.
Then again, he hasn’t had a good week.
Moreover, Mr Lawwell’s exhortation to “stick together” is risible.
The buck stops with him, and he should go.
Anything else is unsatisfactory to the tens of thousands of people who put millions into the club this season to watch games remotely.

The sight of some of the world’s biggest tennis stars touching down for the upcoming Australian Open tournament has frustrated many Australians unable to return home due to the pandemic.
Around the world people are giving up their freedom while sportsmen and women act like nothing is wrong – business as usual.
Our beloved hoops have furloughed our youth team – using tax you and I pay- after squandering 200k+ on the Dubai debacle. Out of touch with what’s happening.
I’m 60 years of age – followed my team though thick and thin – and I’ve never been so disgusted at what our club has done. Totally out of touch with the “common man’s” current predicament. Shameful for a club founded based on charitable works.
How times change.
I really dont think the trip itself would have been an issue for Celtic supporters had the outcome been different. If the team had come back to, winning matches, and better performances, we would have backed them to the hilt. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Time up for Lawwell. 20/21 season been amateur hour at board level and we are now firmly in the banter years. That’s an unacceptable fall from the heights we were at even 2 years ago.
It’s a huge fall since the two months leading up to the March lockdown.
We went into lockdown flying as high and smoothly a super-sonic jet.
We came out of it crash-landing like a shot-up WW1 biplane.
So the Bhoy Blunder has taken his foot out of his mouth to offer a mealy mouthed apology which sounded like more of an explanation than an apology.
For the last few years Lawwells decision making has cost us dearly and it’s time for him to move on. Please.
why is this man still CEO at our club
9 leagues on the trot 12 trophy’s in a row. This Board has done very well over the last two decades.
And they balanced the books.
Arsenal have had to borrow £150 from the bank. last week.
and start looking at the English PREM. Hail. Hail
By the way, Your journalistic work in Scotland was brilliant. You really Tumbled them, you played for Celts. Cheers
That was more a message to the sponsors revealing a combination of lawells ego, arrogance and ageing. He has fallen into the trap of thinking that he can continue to do the same thing ad-infinitum whilst still being top dog and successful. He is no longer able to adapt and change to circumstances on and off the field and has dug in to the security of it worked well for 8 years or in his own words “we don’t need to do anything”. You see it repeated in the business world over the decades eg Woolworths, Fraser’s, Debenhams, Arcadia and his beloved rfc(IL) etc
Gobbledygook,he just sounded like a Tory politician trying to justify the latest universal credit cuts
The ramblings of a dead man walking, or in this case talking. This interview will be ridiculed by fan and foe alike. As I’ve previously commented upon, neither Mr Lennon or Mr Lawwell will see the start of next season, and attention will rightly focus on DD, his ego also blew the chance of 10-in-a-row and he will be remembered as one of the three who threw it away, no escape route and his legacy is being rightfully cemented.
The only thing that Celtic have done wrong in my opinion was to take Christopher Julien to Dubai as he was in crutches and obviously not fit to travel. Celtic as a club have done nothing wrong , the trip was organized and sanctioned by the Scottish government and the governing football authorities back in November. The government put self isolation on people returning from Dubai after Celtic were in Dubai, yes in hind sight there were mistakes made and Celtic as a club recognize that, but what really annoys me that the likes of Andy Walker Boyd and McCoist have been given a platform to rip int our great club as if they are experts in Covid 19.
We should now try and put this sorry episode behind us and start to re build to put our great club Glasgow Celtic 1888 back to were we belong, at the very top.
Hail Hail
Wow. Really. You think scotgov organised it. Are the club in so much of a bubble that they dont notice the deaths, job losses, hardship on fans. Im stunned that no-one in leadership roles..lenny,lawwell,kennedy,broony, board stopped to stay “we shouldnt be doing this”. This season of poor decisions and behind the scenes rumours could not have been written. Fans have been sleepwalking due to success(inc myself). Replacing silver with pewter. Lets not blame governments or other agencies before ourselves. Im informed that anyone sittin 4 seats of julien in either direction on plane would need to isolate..also interesting that strachan was ok but kennedy and lennon not….the body langauge bet the 3 has been poor all season.
HH no longer Hail Hail but Hear Hear. Well said Phil.
And that was supposed to help?
The only way it should should have been finish was for Peter to say;-
‘And I take full personal responsibility and for the good of the club I will be resigning with immediate effect.’
