An imagined asset at Ibrox

I’m told that a new star is soon to be born at Sevco.

Full disclosure the lad has been pretty much off the radar for me.

However, my information is that the new PR guy at Sevco has been ordered to get it out there that…checks notes… Brandon Barker is the next big thing.

Moreover, he is such a highly valuable asset that many clubs will soon be falling over each other to sign.

This is a remarkable turnaround in Brandon’s career, because in four years at Citeh, he had zero appearances for the first team.

The Manchester outfit instead loaned him out to Rotherham, NAC Breda, Hibernian and finally to Preston North End.

It is a shame that he only played in six matches for Sevco last season as he might have been the missing piece of  Stevie’s chaotic jigsaw.

Ok, that is now all in the past.

Now the Stenography Corps have been briefed that they have to suddenly discover his hidden talents during this extended transfer window.

So, dear reader, keep an eye out for some award-winning succulence about this lad in the weeks to come.

When this “journalism” does appear just feel for the person whose by-line it appears under as they’ re only following orders.

For the avoidance of doubt, no harm to the kid.

I rather suspect he will also be surprised to suddenly read of his elevation in Sevco’s fantasy firmament.

  1. With Morelos already gone in the eyes of the blue side fans, isn’t it remarkable that they think the squillions raised by his sale will be reinvested in the squad?
Sports Direct, Menorial Walls, Dave King, deferred wages, transfer fee instalments, all have to be squared up.
There will be scant monies left from whatever Morelos brings in and if he’s still about by the weekend another red card will see his value plummet further.

  2. How many Sevcovites does ittake to change a light bulb?.
    Four.
One to diss the outgoing one as an abject failure,
A second to praise the incoming one as the brightest thing he has ever seen.
A third to go out into the highways and byways to look or a self-certified billionnare electrician to fit it.
And a fourth to make sure it never gets switched on.

    • Yes…. but it immediately increases in value a hundred-fold before ever being switched on and is the best lightbulb ever to be seen in that position.

  3. Kamara is still there despite the reported interest from Marseille at £10m.
Tavernier still there with his £8m move to Newcastle a figment of someone’s imagination.
Morelos still itching for his big move but Lille isn’t that.
When is the Italian and EPL clubs bidding war going to start for the Columbian hit man?
Perhaps Gabriel McKay has the answers, the Daily Radar’s new wonderkid?
Only kidding. He’s one to watch though as he has scant regards for checking the veracity of the simplest of facts before sending his output off for printing.
If Alfredo starts against Aberdeen on Saturday his frustration at still being at Rangers may well boil over.
Memo to myself to check out the odds on a red card being shown to El Buffoon as he just can’t help himself when the red mist descends and he and McKenna have had a running feud in previous games.

  4. I quite like Barker. He always put in a good shift for Hibs against Celtic and looked dangerous cutting in from the left. To be fair, Roberts, Ntcham and Frimpong didn’t show up an Man City but did/are doing well at Celtic. Same with Big Sammy. I would have been happy for Celtic to have signed Barker as an addition to the squad. I think he could be a real player with proper coaching which I don’t think he’s getting at Ibrox.

  5. Phil.

You need to give the team that plays in Govan a little bit of a break. It’s becoming too embarrassing for a journalist in Donegal to continue to force the truth rather than give them the opportunity to work through the Scottish Media to cheer up that teams supporters!

    Keep up the good work.

  6. I follow the Scottish game from afar and the sheer volume of ‘good news’ stories I see about Rangers is astounding. What is most amazing is that there is no way that some of these stories could be true, the two examples that spring to mind are Morelos to China and Kamara to Juventus.

When a journalist recalls that he was told to write in glowing terms about Craig Whyte, and did so without doing any research, and then subsequently states that his paper’s integrity ‘cannot be questioned’, only a fool would believe him. As an aside, has it been revealed yet who produced the ‘translation’ to Sky which accused Celtic fans of racism?

    • I’ve seen this mentioned a couple of times and I’m still wondering when Chris Kamara came out of retirement and signed up in Govan?

    • I would guess that Sevco gave the tapes to a Spanish translator to create a translated transcript. Then when that arrived, it might have seemed a bit wooden and academic. So then someone in the Sevco comms team who did not speak Spanish would have paraphrased the translation (based on a set of assumptions and misunderstandings) to make it more soundbite-friendly, thereby breaking the link between the purported translation and what was actually said.

  7. Disinformation from a DUP guy? Disinformation from SEVCO? Disinformation from Daily Radar and the SMSM? Surely not?!

All pertaining to the skills and value of a dud SEVCO player? Surely not?!

The BBC have a Disinformation Professional, she was on BBC NEWS24 today. She is employed to fathom what news is real and what is made up lies. I suggest she point her honed instincts towards BBC Scotland Sports Reporting.

Surely Dave King’s disastrous five years at Sevco gifted CELTIC nine in a row? Surely if Big Mike had not been ousted, his professionals would have delivered promotion to SPFL at first call and at least one title out of the last four years in the SPFL? Young Newcastle talent would have been in there each year.

King was never a football club owner. Never had the money. Never had the contacts or relationships in the game.

Bringing Gerrard was disastrous. Bombed out six trophies out of six trophies.

    • “Bringing Gerrard was disastrous.”
      I disagree.
He has improved the Sevco team-it is now capable of beating Celtic on the day.
More importantly, his arrival in 2018 energised the demoralised klanabase and season ticket renewals took off.
Overall it has been a successful appointment.

        • But that is based on the false assumption that the two are equal. I have provided some numbers below and for me there are two highlights. For every £5 Rangers received in revenue, Celtic received (almost) £10. Secondly, Celtic spent more on staff in the year than Rangers received in income.

Rangers finishing second is in no way under-achievement. Celtic are financially stable and can afford a bigger and better squad.

In the year to 30th June 2019 Rangers revenue was £53m. Their staff costs were £34.5m and they made an operating loss of over £10m. They made a bigger loss the year before.

In the same period Celtic’s revenue was £93.4. Labour costs were £56.1m and an operating profit of £11,3 was made. They made a bigger profit the year before.

      • I would agree that his appointment has not been disastrous but calling it successful is surely overstating it Phil. Yes Rangers are far better than they were under Perdo/Warburton etc and on their day they can now give us a bloody nose rather than get humped like they used to. However, he’s won nothing in 2years which is the only measure for success in Glasgow. In truth any half decent manager could make Rangers the 2nd best club in Scotland – their budget is the 2nd biggest by miles!

        • Everything is relative. Since SG arrived they can now finish relatively comfortable in SECOND place. One Cup final appearance in that time. Same as the recently departed Hearts, who are one game away from a second.

They’ve troubled us more. However, on any off-day anyone in that league can trouble us.

We’ve struggled in the last three New Year games against them, but we’ve always had a heavier schedule in the lead up. This coming season we have at least one, hopefully two, Scottish Cup games to be played before Christmas. That’s already two more, all else being equal. It will be interesting to see who copes best with NO break this winter.

It’s going to be a gruelling season for both if they’re involved in Europe. It’ll be match day. Rest day. Light training day. Match day. That will be the case from Saturday til the end of May next year.

It will be harder on Celtic as we have many more international players than sevco. There will be very little coaching done. It will be a season for a big squad. A season that will require the legs of youth and the heads of experience.

NOTHING matters this season but the title!! Personally, I couldn’t give a rat’s rectum if we go out of Europe at the first hurdle this year.

          • One cup final appearance for Gerrard out of four cup tournaments. And always receiving hot ball cold ball draw fixing by the SPFL & SFA to keep their mug fans paying in to the semi finals.

An honest draw, getting Aberdeen or Hearts or Celtic up front Sees them pumped out.

      • Don’t entirely agreee, Phil. He did give them a boost at first, but his record is not much better than his predecessors’, and had lock down not kicked in, they would have imploded again, Celtic would almost certainly improved their points total, and Gerrard mighty well have been on his way.

  8. Excellent, a game of Brandon Barker bingo to look forward to. Number one, he has pace to burn. Number two, his wages are overdue. Number three, he’s hurt his knee. Number four, get him out of the door. Number five, he now plays for Hythe.

  9. If only we could have a proper free press in this country.
I worked in this industry for all my working life and it has
now changed beyond belief. No sports journalists anymore just
pathetic sports writers who do as they are told. They never
try to tell the truth, just follow the party line. It is PATHETIC.
But when the doors finally close there will be no tears for
any of them, especially those at the BBC Mr English.
As for More or Less the fee will show up in the accounts but
the fans will have been duped once again by then.
    Thanks once again Phil.

  10. Need to get his wages doubled asap. Wasn’t even a first team pick at Hibs. Bags of pace though.

I read recently Waghorn moved from Ipswich to Deby for over £5m and sevco had no sell on clause. sevco have a level of business incompetence second to none

  11. It is good that you have written this article BEFORE the stenography core do their stuff. Now, they will either have to have a change of heart or be made to look rather silly if they do as you have predicted.
