Real club men and financial problems

As regular readers will know I have on more than one occasion acknowledged the bona fides of Mr Douglas Park.

He is a genuine Rainjurrzz man.

Ok, ok, sometimes he might get a wee bit emotional.

However, his heart is in the right place.

Like Mr George Letham is cut from the same cloth.

He’s also a supporter of considerable wealth who has stepped up when needed.

Now, if Mirko Marić becomes part of the Sevco squad then it is the current chairman who should take a bow.

Quite simply the £2m (approx.) transfer fee will not be coming from the club’s resources.

Real club men step up.

Respect.

If the deal goes through then it might well be down to the very public tantrum by Mr Let’s Go.

My information is that the NK Osijek player had previously been offered to Sevco’s more affluent neighbour in the East End.

However, at the time Celtic decided on Patryk Klimala instead.

I do hope that the media campaign to raise the profile of Brandon Barker does go well.

It was nice to learn that Sevco’s new spin Svengali was especially appreciative of my efforts yesterday to flag up this upcoming media extravaganza about young Master Barker.

With Nikola Katić out longterm and no one interested in their snowflake captain, the chaps in the Blue Room must come up with another highly prized asset.

Oh, and spare a thought for the supporter liaison chappie.

I don’t know if they supplied him with a company car, but he certainly has a levitating laptop!

Now, for the avoidance of doubt, Operation Sell Alfredo continues apace.

The figures being obediently copied and pasted by the Stenography Corps should really be filed under “disassociation from reality”.

When Alfredo finally departs the stadium that John Brown played for the eventual transfer fee will almost certainly be in then €6m ballpark.

The buying club will also have to shell out for Alfie’s loyalty bonus, that being just north of £1m.

If he does play at Pittodrie at the weekend, then it might not end well.

As I reckon he might be in a bit of a mood at the moment.

Pobresito.

  1. Oh dear, Josh Windass tipped to return
    to Ibrox.
That will encourage the blue hordes no end!
Stevie G’s all talk. They have got a number of non achievers off the wage bill and then hey ho are in the process of replacing them with similar talent.
Is this the board heeding Gerrards plea that he needs more and if he’s not supported he will be quick to say I told you so as he exits stage left to Bristol City or some other Championship club looking for a big name manager?

  2. Carlisle was found guilty and received a warning, as well as the offence being a matter of public record. That’s a result… a bit of community service thrown in, perhaps in a multicultural setting, may have helped, but I cannot imagine the Sheriff is intending to pat him on the back for his racist and abusive behaviour.

  3. Meanwhile in the East Celtic spend real money on a real Transfer and secure a permanent signing in Greek International Goal Keeper Vasilis Barkas.

  4. On an entirely brighter note, many thanks Phil for introducing me to the work of Paul McConville. Is there any way of acquiring hard copy of his, ‘Celtic and the Living Wage.’

It’s a piece worthy of being filed in the family library of famous speeches, ideas and articles. Chomsky, Luther King … Paul McConville.

  5. Will be hugely impressed if Castore deliver what they have promised on the 1st August.
That is anyone who has pre ordered merchandise online will have it delivered on the day or very soon after.
A massive logistic undertaking for the 2 scouse brothers which much larger organisations would have struggled to deal with.
We await with interest to see if Sports Direct have indeed signed an exclusive deal with Castore and as a result Ashley’s high street sites will be flogging their Rangers gear from the 1st August.
I feel a statement coming out of Ibrox explaining to the fan base that Castore’s deal with SD will maximise the sales volume of the merchandise and that the oft reported 7p in the £ being Rangers previous share of sales revenue is a thing of the past therefore what’s good for SD is good for Rangers, so buy, buy, buy.

  6. Any updates on Thursday’s inflated payday at Ibrox?

Even if it is ‘only’ £250K here, £2M there, plus assorted freebie signings for TRFC currently,

you would expect the new club would have access to sufficient cash reserves to pay all of the squad’s deferred pay.

How could a club take on new players and be ‘linked’ to other players – if that club can’t meet payroll?

And it wouldn’t exactly be a morale booster for Saturday’s league opener if the players’ pay packets are significantly lighter than expected / promised…

Could you imagine how Morelos would react if he didn’t get paid in full – and was in team on Saturday?!

    I’m sure it’ll be fine… 🙂

    • Rangers, like Lille at the moment, are cash rich and will be dipping into the Season Ticket monies to fund new faces and running costs.
There appears to be no plan in place to stop the ruinous year on year losses.
Any transfer fees coming in over the next few weeks fall into the 20/21 financial year so a similar huge trading loss to last year is a given.
There are no billionaires on the Ibrox board and the Acting Chairman’s car business will be in the doldrums, and that’s putting it mildly.
As from 2012 the board and other ‘ investors’ have soaked up the annual losses from their own resources and in return have been rewarded with equity in a club/company/ thingy that has never reported a trading profit in it’s short existence.
All quiet on the Sports Direct front. Has Ashley done a deal with Castore to the benefit of SD for punting their Rangers merchandising through his high street outlets?
All will be revealed in the next few days.

      • The statement claiming exclusivity on Sevco Castore kit remains on the SD FB page.
If it is erroneous then that’s a major legal own goal by Ashley.
However, it just might be the truth.

        • The Big Man is NOT often linked to legal own-goals. That might be because he can afford the best legal brains mony can buy. Now, there’s a business operation out Govan direction who can’t afford one of the legal books these guys refer to.

  7. you seen this Phil Unbelievable !

    https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/18614695.rangers-fan-chanted-sectarian-slurs-neil-lennon-old-firm-match-walks-free-court/

The court heard Carlisle and his two friends went to the smoking area at the southwest corner at half time.

PC Christopher Conway, 33, told the court he witnessed the youth singing both songs in a group of 20 to 30 people.

PC Conway said: “The group were jumping singing the Billy Boys inserting sectarian language.

“During the song fenian blood was mentioned numerous times.

“I did see the accused singing the lyrics.”

Prosecutor Amy Hunter asked if PC Conway saw the teenage fan sing any other songs.
He said: “Yes from my recollection it was Daydream Believer with sad fenian b***** directed towards Neil Lennon.”

The teen was arrested shortly before the second half started.

PC Conway added that the boy “expressed remorse” at the police station but this was denied later by the teen himself.

In evidence, Carlisle told the court that he had been singing other songs including Penny Arcade but not the Billy Boys.

Miss Hunter asked: “Are the police lying?” and the boy replied: “No, they are mistaken.”

Carlisle was later found guilty by Sheriff Alan Findlay who deferred sentence until today for good behavior and admonished him.
