The Alfie and Stevie show

In order to discern what is happening at the Sevco shitshow, it is crucial always to follow follow the money.

Next Thursday (30th July) is payday at the basket of assets.

Now that the Sevco squad is back training and playing their deferred wages will be due.

That’s a substantial wedge.

Now, consider this:

Let’s say that the Morelos fee is mainly paid upfront.

For the avoidance of doubt, that was certainly a red line for the Sevco High Command.

Indeed the more that was arriving in the first instalment, the lower the overall fee.

The figures I have published today (€6m) would probably cover what is owed to the first-team squad for their Covid19 lockdown period.

Of course, that means that any such sum brought in from the sale of the ample Colombian would not be available to sign a somewhat lighter replacement.

Therefore, Stevie losses his main striker and the money goes to cover payroll and other operating expenses at the cash strapped shambles.

Such a scenario would certainly explain the very public tantrum of Mr Let’s Go.

There is also the possibility that Alfie’s fee, could, in part, go to pay an instalment on someone who is already there.

Either way, Mr Let’s Go is not in his happy place.

  1. Phil, If I was a Sevco director and I had put MY money in(soft loan) to keep the lights on, Forget paying the players I would want MY money back from the Fredo deal.

  2. It might just be that the perfect financial shitstorm is about to hit the blue room. Deferred wages due – at least in part, the truth about to hit the orcs of the reality of the kit deal, a lot of instalments due on previous player purchases, the SD bill looming on the horizon, and the fantasy values placed on More-or-less about to be exposed as, well,,,,,,,,,,, fantasy values. All this at a time of playing matches with NO match day income. Were a second wave of the virus to hit any time soon, I really don’t see how they could survive it.

On the park, reduced to signing a player released by a relegated Championship club. A player who has never in his entire 13 years professional career commanded a transfer fee. Who has averaged under 19 league appearances per season in that time – APPEARANCES, not starts or full games – and who has been released by every club he’s ever played for. Yet he is being described on sevco sites as the best CH in the championship last season. REALLY!!!

10 IAR will not just see Gerard, if he’s still there, and the players slaughtered by the hordes but their fury will also be turned on the board.

The desperation this season will be pitiful to witness. Admin and a pre-emptive attempt to deflect the blame and dump the debt must be running through some minds right now. Anyone, everyone will be blamed, for anything and everything.

  3. “We need more” says Slippy – do does Aberdeen, Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Hibs etc. Why is it that only the Ibrox team needs to ‘invest’ to challenge Celtic?

Furthermore, I’m sick of hearing that banal argument that it is all about financial investment. Leicester were not the biggest spenders in England when they won the title, neither were Twente when they won the Dutch league under Steve McLaren. Highly paid coaches need to take some responsibility in making players better rather than simply buying better players than they have already.

Comparing players today to how they were when they signed, the likes of Ryan Christie has become a better player at Celtic, Martin Boyle has become a better player at Hibs, Shay Logan has improved at Aberdeen. These players have also won major honours at so-called lesser clubs. I therefore ask in all seriousness, which members of the first team squad at Ibrox have genuinely improved under their manager?

  4. Alfredo Morelos: No Lille bid after talks with Rangers

By Kenny Macintyre BBC Scotland….On the BBC website

In the Old Testament Daniel 5:27….He was weighed in the balance and found to be wanting, or in this case found to be too heavy and yet lacking in substance.

  5. Whatever fee El Buffoon brings in will not be the narrative that the Scottish media will headline with.
No way, instead we will be bombarded with crap that the Colombian was chased out of Scotland on a wave of racial abuse.
There is no doubt that he attracts lots of abuse, not because of his colour but because of his on field antics, throwing himself to the ground trying to con referees for instance, not forgetting his many yellow and red cards.
Also, since day one at Ibrox, he’s made it known to all that he’s set his sights on playing in a bigger league, with the EPL a preferred choice.
No doubt the Scottish media will just gloss over that fact.
You can already sketch the headlines that will accompany his departure as our media have their chain pulled from Ibrox.
Despite his many faults there’s no arguing with his goals tally, Celtic apart, and selling him a few days before the new season kicks off will leave a massive gap to be filled.

    • Could it be that the selling club want the deskto go through? The rules are to prevent poaching but in this case Rangers are very keen for the contract to end and the player’s registration to be transferred.

  6. Rangers cannot sell Morelos for the fee you outlined. They need that plus 5 for a replacement (regardless of his actual worth). Either Lille increase the offer substantially or Morelos will throw a massive tantrum. He is the last player they should let speak to another club without agreement on a fee…….

  8. This headline in today’s Scotsman:
“ Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos agrees personal terms with French club Lille”.
So it looks like it’s a done deal. If Stevie G doesn’t get any money for investment into his squad he’ll be off with his reputation intact claiming that the club failed to match his ambition. A perfect outcome for Stevie whilst the club struggles to find the right words to explain this farrago to its fans and the media. No doubt that it will be blamed on the Coronavirus pandemic or some other outside influence. Not the club’s fault, of course!

  9. Constructive dismissal Sevco style. We can’t sack you, so we’ll starve you out. Not that we have any other financial options anyway! I guess the upside for Slippy is that the Leicester job might be up for grabs after today.

  12. Always correct to follow follow the money, so are HJK Helsinki not due 10% of any onward sale?

His clear highlight of insufficient recruitment and or lack of financial support is unreal. It’s similar to Brendan’s Terminado responses before the Athens game.

If they don’t come back down from Aberdeen with 3 points intact, that “honest” response will amplify! Failure to qualify for Europa, he’ll walk.

He’s getting this excuses in first.

Come on Celtic, sign The Great Wall and lets make the Champions League and win La Decima

  13. Gerrard WILL get more players…

    – more free transfers
    – more loanees
    – more out of contract / unwanted players.

At desperate times like now, a club would appreciate their manager’s skills to get the best out of any bunch of players available to him… 🙂

    • The 40yo Slippy G would do better for the financially distressed club if he gave up management and pulled on his boots. Seriously!

£5.4m is too much for the red card overweight petulant Chancer.

Kent and Hagi need their installments paid. Everyone else wants paid.

Looks like Park is getting a Lambo returned.
