The never-ending fire sale

Of course, we have been here before.

Then there was a brief outbreak of journalism when the tennis chap at Pacific Quay temporarily forgot the rules.

Then some reminding had to be done.

However, it would appear that Operation Sell Alfredo is getting rather desperate now.

Just to be of assistance to any real bidders out there:

Any offers of around £5m will almost certainly secure the questionable services of Señor Alfredo José Morelos Aviléz.

You’re welcome!

In recent days in the Blue Room, the figure of £8m has been discussed as the likely upper limit of any possible transfer fee.

As ever with matters Ibrox we should follow follow the money.

There can be no doubt that bringing in a substantial for the Colombian is central to the financial planning at Sevco.

Even if a fee is agreed, then Alfredo’s personal terms could be a bump in the road.

After all, the poor chap has a Lamborghini to support.

For the avoidance of doubt, the intrepid chaps in the Stenography Corps are simply not allowed to adhere to that basic tenet of journalism.

It should always be “questions answered” and then “answers questioned”.

I wonder that length the BBC chap went to after being shown that “genuine offer” for Alfredo.

Did the Beeb fellow ascertain its bona fides?

For example, did he speak to the senior person at the Chinese club who had signed off on the bid?

I recall at the time that I connected with a British freelance journalist in Shanghai.

Between us, we tried our level best to run down the “Morelos to China” story.

In the end, we came up with the square root of not very much.

It was almost as if the story had been invented.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly comment…

Now, the BBC has a correspondent in Beijing.

Moreover, the UK national broadcaster has access to locally recruited staff there who, of course, speak the language and have excellent contacts.

Therefore, it should have been relatively easy for the Beeb to run down whether or not the fax he was shown at Ibrox was entirely legit.

Now, I know that I would have done all of that.

Then again, that’s why they would never let this Fenian inside a Sevco presser.

Everyone anyone

  1. We have our own problems just now. If, as now looks likely, big FF won’t be back, we need to get a quality keeper urgently. Hart is not the answer. At his best he was massively over-rated. He is now well past his best. With Wigan going into admin David Marshall could be got for a song. He’s as under-rated as Hart is over-rated.

  2. The truth and Rangers parted company a VERY along time ago.
The truth and 2angers have never even been formerly introduced.
Shmoke and Mirrorsh since McMoisht was appointed and the big handed striking Legned from
Mexborough was handing out Cups of T’Yorkshir T’Tea to the Gullibillies.

    • If you where looking for a Lamborghini in Glasgow ,,, You could google Lamborghini Glasgow and you get Park of Hamilton So if you can’t afford to keep your star man and you have a Lamborghini sitting in your showroom in the middle of a recession ,,,Let’s call it a wee sweetner

  4. Money’s tight in the middle-east, what with the falling price of oil. However I would have thought that a camel and half a dozen donkeys might have done the trick.

The donkeys could have bolstered the first team pool right away. The camel would have been company for Slippery G when he realises in December that he’s staring at another trophyless season…….and takes the hump.

  5. No need to worry about anything Slippy told everyone that last week . Apparently any player he wants he can have the board have told him . Wee Coco at ibrox noise has gone further by telling us it’s £40 million they have to spend now not £20 million . The reason for this is the sale of 3 players Barasic Fatso and Kamara £40 million at least for those 3 . Oh and Fatso has had 3 pay increases since he first arrived probably from 5 grand a week up to about 15 maybe 20 grand a week . This apparently is good enough for Fatso as he turned down an offer of 192 grand a week from elsewhere . Back to Slippy after telling us money for any player was available to buy he goes out and gets a knockback from Anderlecht when asking to take a player of theirs onloan .

  6. Quatari giants in for Morelos, Rennes, etc, and so the shit goes on.
If his said ambitions are the EPL what manager or club would take a punt on someone who has no control over his temperament and spends half the match throwing himself to the ground then peeping through his fingers to see if he’s attracted the ref’s attention.
A few weeks ago I read a post from a Rangers fan, without the blinkers, saying that Morelos wouldn’t get away with half of what he does here in the EPL. Too true mate.
However it will be a tall order to replace his goals, as only he and Defoe were regular goal contributors.
No matter, it appears that any revenue from the sale of El Buffoon, Barasic, Kamara to Marseille for £10m, has been earmarked by the support to strengthen the squad.
It’s as if there are no bill’s to pay, no transfer fee instalments due, Memorial Walls have gone away as have Sports Direct, and let’s not forget the deferred wages due to the recently departed players this week.
Deferred PAYE and VAT will also have to be paid, the latter being considerable on the back of ST sales.
No idea what conditions or terms are attached to the King loan. Who knows perhaps he has first dibs on incoming transfer fees?

  7. Well, it has been suspiciously quiet at Ibrox for a while – other than hyping / flogging ST’s.

    The calm before the storm…?

Covid does provide cover for selling Morelos for not very much – in a depressed transfer market. [Assuming a club actually wants him, of course!]

It could also provide the cover for launching a new club/company/thingmy. 🙂
