Dead man slipping

It is observable that the Stenography Corps have now been authorised to have a go at Mr Let’s Go

A cynic might conclude that this is shameful churnalism and news management driven by corporate PR.

I, of course, couldn’t possibly comment.

This fall from grace is the inevitable destination of the decision taken in 2018 by the Convict Chairman.

Without any discussion with his Blue Room colleagues, he made a pitch to Stevie G.

The move for Gerrard came as a huge shock to the rest of the Sevco High Command.

Mr King immediately solved the looming season ticket renewal crisis.

The Ibrox klanbase were giddy with excitement at the prospect of toppling Celtic.

Moreover, the Stenography Corps were in raptures at his appointment.

Choo choo!

However, your humble correspondent pointed out that Sevco had attached the basket of assets to a global brand by hiring a TV pundit.

Two years on he continues to make basic managerial errors in terms on man-management and in-game decisions.

This only proves that Mr Gerrard the world-class player is human.

He has had to get to grips with an entirely new skillset very quickly in a pressurised situation.

Of course, he realised that he had to win silverware if he was to stay in the Ibrox job.

In fairness, he has made a decent fist of it so far.

However, he is up against a Celtic that has a massive financial advantage.

Moreover, that resource gap is almost certain to widen when the ADIDAS deal happens in the summer.

I have been steered on the numbers by a well-placed source and they are game-changing.

I’m not surprised that the folks at New Balance decided it was too rich for their blood.

It is almost as if Celtic having all these extra millions amounts to some sort of sporting advantage.

I do realise dear reader that this is a controversial view.

There is also the small matter that Stevie G has been up against two highly experienced managers at Celtic during his tenure at Sevco.

Consequently, Celtic has a combination of a title-winning veteran in the dugout AND an overwhelming financial advantage.

That makes Sevco job close to impossible while the klanbase harbour delusions of rivalry.

Of course, it is a function of the Fitba Fourth Estate to layout these basic realities.

However, that would mean telling the truth about what is happening at Ibrox.

Sadly, they haven’t done that since that wonderful day in 2012.

By slavishly remaining onside with the Sevco High Command they almost ensure that something similar will happen to the second club to play their home games at Ibrox.

Today, I got the feeling that Stevie G experienced what his players have felt several times since the Dubai fiasco.

What goes around comes around.

Like bus wheels…

  2. Fantastic as usual Phil. The Follow Follow forum has been very entertaining as of late, if someone posts the hard truth of despair that rangers are in, he/she must be a tarrier and likewise if someone offers support to Gerrard. Very paranoid times over there or should I say paranormal times. Loving it.

  3. Hi Phil, I am thoroughly sick hearing about the collapse of of Steven Gerrard’s side since the break. Looking back at previous columns, how many times did I read that, although they won, they were not at their best. My point is, although they had a few good days, they were never a great side. Meanwhile Celtic were not at their best and certainly not in the game before the break. Teams have worked them out and the can’t change their style with the calibre of discards that the manager signed. Another thing, can you highlight in your wonderful post the fact that in the Herald only Chris Jack can report on Sevco’s matches. Is he embedded there for a particular reason??

    • You’re absolutely correct. Gerrard was delivering desperate 1-0 wins and draws thanks to the Refs and running on luck whilst Celtic were commanding 3-0 or 4-0 clean sheets. It has been SEVCO smoke and mirrors all season.
