Stenography and geography

So, if tonight Celtic progress instead of Progrès then the champions of Scotland will be heading to Estonia and not Macedonia.

Nõmme Kalju FC won 2-1 away to KF Shkëndija in Tetovo, North Macedonia

This is a great pity as undoubtedly some of the Stenography Corps had various learned travelogue pieces prepared on that part of the Balkans.

I was especially looking forward to their erudite explorations of the competing claims as to who is the true inheritors of Alexander’s great feats.

Ah, those Illyrians.

Up to no good as usual!

Indeed, the polyglots on the sports desks might even have woven in the analogy of what nationalistic Serbs tend to do with the Albanian hero Skanderbeg.

Although, perhaps I am expecting too much of the chaps of them…

For now, we must hope that they can manage to get the coach of the correct club in the correct country speaking about the possibility of playing the correct team in the next round of the correct competition.

For the avoidance of doubt, Celtic are playing Fudbalski Klub Sarajevo tonight in the UCL qualifier.

The away team at Parkhead tonight are from Bosnia and Herzegovina and not Bo’ness and Helensburgh.

It is these little details that are important…

All the best to Neil Lennon and his Bhoys tonight.

  1. Aw come on guys. Cut Chris Jack some slack.
It’s hardly his fault that he put his name to an article written by someone else and that his employer can no longer afford to pay someone to review his mince and check the accuracy of the content.
The ET sports guys have a reputation to live up to, and it’s not a good one.
Not so long ago they confused Michael O’ Neil and Martin O’ Neil in an article but hey whats in a name?
Who will ever forget that award winning chap at the Record introducing Craig Whyte to the Rangers support as ‘a billionaire with wealth off the radar’ ?
When the truth hit the fan Jackson claimed that, like the tainted Sir David Murray, he had been duped.
Basically a confession that he would publish anything put in front of him, from whatever source, without even checking the basics of the info provided to him.
The said Jacko is remarkably still employed by the Record despite making his employer, and himself, a laughing stock.
Jacko and Jack have set the bar for TMSM on football reporting.
It’s a bar that is set at a very low level and reading the daily mince that they produce just emphasises the rapid decline of talent in their profession.
Andy Gray’s claim to have talked to Stevie G has been shot down by Gerrard himself yet it’s splashed all over the media that Gerrard had told Gray that 55 would be achieved this season!
It’s little wonder that all the broadsheets have lost the majority of their readership over the last decade and wholesale redundancies are fast approaching, much of which will have been self inflicted.
