Broony and why facts should always be sacred

Consider this, in a football match, the captain of the victorious side is assaulted twice by opposing players.

One of them is sent off.

The other assailant escapes justice on the day, but is retrospectively red carded and receives a two-match ban.

Another totally loses it in the tunnel the game and gets a second yellow.

The manager of the losing team gives some verbals to the referee and receives a one-match touchline ban.

And yet the dominant narrative in the mainstream in the days afterwards has been that the player who was elbowed and punched is somehow to blame.

So much so that he is cited on the bullshit charge of “not acting in the best interests of football”.

It is a given that since the club was created in 2012 by Charlie and the boys Sevco has wasted a hillside of money.

Unlike the SMSM this site has charted that cash burn and correctly predicted in early 2014 that they had burned through the IPO cash pile.

Indeed, that was written into the DNA of the new club.

CEO Graham Wallace used the term “onerous contracts” to describe how millions were disappearing out into the Sevco triangle.

However, money that IS well spent is what they pay out for PR.

In the immediate aftermath of the match on Sunday a fiat was issued from south of the Limpopo to make Scott Brown the story.

So Sevco’s intergalactic PR guru got to work.

If anyone stumbled into this story in the days after Celtic won at Parkhead on Sunday, then they would be forgiven for thinking that this Brown character was a wrong un.

Indeed, the instigator of all that had taken place.

Of course, when such Orwellian spin is attempted it is down to the Fourth Estate to remember C.P. Scott’s wise guidance to his reporters:

“Comment is free, but facts are sacred”.

The forensic facts are that Scott Brown was banjoed twice during the match.

Moreover, the second assailant could have scored after he had wellied Broony at the re-start when the champions had gone 2-1 ahead.

It was just one of those inexplicable officiating lapses that ALL of the officials missed the Liverpool loanee smack the Celtic captain on the centre circle.

Especially as they were with no players obstructing the view.

Really, baffling.

Had justice been served at that time then Sevco, having just gone 2-1 down would have been reduced to nine men.

Yet, this week Broony has been the centre of the controversy.

It really is something to behold.

As the bills pile up at Sevco the PR chap is always paid.

This was a key part of Mr King’s plan after the Off License Putsch of 2015.

It was imperative to control the narrative so that the “co-investors” in the cheap seats at Ibrox would not see the charade for what it was.

It is worth remembering that this is it the local media who produced the breathless “exclusive” in November 2010 that there was a billionaire called Craig Whyte and everything was going to be peachy at Ibrox.

Of course, the Sevco shitshow has some characters from the original Ibrox series.

It was a great finale when the scriptwriters decided to kill off Rangers.

The box set is available.

It is important for any journalist working a story to resist the moves of paid PR professionals, not to rely on them as a source.

This is what a real award winning journalist thought of the relationship between the Glasgow sports desk and Ibrox paid PR back in 2013.

The following year a professor of journalism wrote on this subject for the Guardian.

Incidentally, that was the newspaper that C.P. Scott was the editor of when he wrote his famous essay in 1921.

Now, here are some sacred facts:

Despite massively increasing their wage bill under Mr Let’s Go, Sevco will end the season without silverware.

Despite pushing the boat out beyond the horizon in January their form since the winter break has been, as Chris Sutton might say, “bang average”.

In comparison, Celtic have motored on, winning all of their domestic games with the exception of a goalless draw against Aberdeen at Parkhead.

That’s a fact and on this site facts are sacred.

  1. Here’s another thought…

If Broony cops a ban for “not acting in the best interests of Scottish football”, wouldn’t it be funny if a class action was raised against the SFA for precisely the same reason? Amongst the charges would be:

    The 5-way Agreement
Dave King deemed to be “fit and proper”.
The kangaroo court, sorry… the Nimmo-Smith commission.
    Improper Registrations…

Their ban would be, as the Latin saying goes, SINE DIE.

  2. For too long now…our Board has failed miserably to defend the Club when its been needed.
The people at Res.12 might have something to say on that as well.
But as far as this latest shoite concerning Broony goes….
I see Lenny has said that ” we will defend this vigorously.”….
Well I say the time for defending is over….this time we need to attack with all guns blazing.
To say that the SFA is not fit for purpose is akin to saying that Morelos gets a wee bit irritated now and again.
They are a shambolic outfit which dances to the Govan tune…( Fit your own tune in here…)
Our Board will never have a better opportunity than this… to expose this mob for what they are and hopefully force some resignations in the process.
The time for Mr.Nice Guy is over Celtic …..go get the bastards.

  3. Whilst I agree Brown was on the end of two red card challenges on Sunday, the baiting of opposition fans is never a good idea, at any ground.

Would the shrinking violet Scott Brown be the same or different player to the one who studded a St Mirren player in midweek. That was a very subtle red card and a visit to the SFA is definitely required.

    • Y’know 10-12 years ago, when our captain was a young man learning his trade, older, wiser, more street wise players would wind him up on a regular basis. The young Scott reacted and was slaughtered in the msm for rising to the bait. It was his own stupid fault for reacting. Fast forward. Broony is now the seasoned pro. He winds people up. Far more subtly usually than the winding up he faced. But it’s no longer those who react who are blamed. IT’S STILL BROONY’S FAULT. Talk about double standards!!

  4. Just a thought…

Perhaps somebody at Celtic should tune in to these radio phone-ins, etc in anticipation of somebody making a defamatory statement about the club, the management, the squad, or the fans, then go down the route of obtaining a court subpoena for hard-copy of that defamation which will be presented in court. As and when the courts rule in our favour, our court brief should request that the offender releases a public retraction which should be printed in every newspaper, and broadcast on every TV news and sports programme. By doing so, not only do we kill the defamation stone-dead, but it basically facilitates the media calling themselves out on their own fabricated lies.

  5. I cannot believe the SFA were so stupid. It was a Mourinho move by Rangers, say something controversial when your players are on the rack and deflect media attention. Now the SFA have placed themselves in a situation that they cannot get out of. In terms of both the statute itself, and precedent, the charge is unsustainable. Rank incompetence.

  7. For Scott Brown now read Neil Lennon the player a decade ago and the manager today. I can remember the ludicrous bollox written back then abou Neil, claiming things like “He brings it on himself with his aggressive haircut” and all manner of nonsense. Same guy behind it all, he was just in a different “job” (and I am stretching the definition of that word to breaking point here) back then as head honcho of the Record’s Sports pages, rather than in his current PR role for Rangers. Actually, scratch that. It was just a different job title he had back then but, in essence and practice, the same job.

  8. ”It is a well-known fact that Scott Brown eats newborn babies for breakfast .”

I am waiting with bated breath to read this in one of our tabloids or , perhaps , Jim White or Adrian Durham of Talkshite fame will broadcast it later today !
Yesterday , Durham had a caller blaming a Celtic fan for a 13 year old kid being murdered in Glasgow 20 years ago ,
( a complete fabrication , of course ) then blaming Scott Brown for inciting violence in the town centre after the match.
It is to be hoped that a posse of lawyers from Celtic FC are at this time speeding to the courts to serve notice on these muckrakers .

  9. Excellent Phil, the witch-hunt on Broonie shows just how despicable that lot truly are.

Cannot say I’m in anyway surprised,in fact,We really should expect even more disgraceful behaviour from sfa, refs and the sports press in Unfair Auld Alba as we approach the Holy Grail Of THE TEN.If they’re doing the likes of this now,I dread to think what it will be like as We near TEN😤.

The aforementioned will go to near enough any lengths to stop Us in that quest.

‘Banjoed’ is word my Da used quite a bit and I enjoyed seeing that particular wee Scottish(Irish too? maybe?) language manipulation used again.TOP MARX😃

  10. If the final visit to ibrox is within a fortnight of the Scottish Cup Final, I reckon that Scott Brown and Celtic’s most creative players should be rested. Subject to a victory over Aberdeen in the semis of course

  11. You do make a good point that the PR machine has been vital to the various regimes since 2012. It’s almost as though Minty Moonbeams is still controlling the supply of succulent lamb. Is there a possibility that someone on the outside is actually paying the PR bills? Those bills must be astronomical no matter who is forking it out.

  12. How incredible is it that one man can get under the skin of a whole team, and their manger and the games governing body, and the media.
Its a sham and a smokescreen, but with very sinister undercurrents.
