Scott Brown and the SFA

This certainly seems to be the week for late April Fools’ Day pranks.

Because that is the only explanation I can put on the news that Scott Brown is to be cited for having the temerity to celebrate a victory against the basket of assets last Sunday.

The Celtic skipper has been charged with “not acting in the best interests of Association football”.

Good grief!

This comes from a governing body that did not notice a decade of tax cheating, dodgy side letters and “imperfectly registered” players on their watch.

Once the results of that negligence became apparent to the world in 2012 the folks at Hampden doubled down.

They believed that they needed a Rangers, any Rangers in fact, in the top flight of Scottish football.

That allowed Charlie and the boys to become part of the national game.

Mysterious foreign money, onerous contracts anything was ok as long as they would run a football club at Ibrox called “Rangers”.

They would even facilitate the charade by pretending that the original club had not been liquidated after the CVA had been refused by the creditors.

Celtic have made a statement that they will “vigorously” defend their captain.

I hope that one day the Scottish Football Association might be fit for purpose.

That day is not today.

It really isn’t.

  1. It has been confirmed that Scott Brown faces the very serious charge of SMILING WITH INTENT. His crime has been exacerbated by beating the “establishment” team, for which there can be only one sentence – DEATH BY LAUGHING. Brown will be taken to a room filled with his peers, where he will be strapped into a big leather recliner, and made to watch re-runs of the “old f☆rm” games since sevco got back into the top flight, meanwhile he will be wearing a set of headphones that will repeatedly boom out those words uttered by Leigh Griffiths – YER TEAM’S DEID, MATE – BEAT IT!

May the Lord have mercy upon his soul!

  2. The big question on the blue side appears to be how much will Gerrard have to spend in the next window?
With it generally accepted that El Buffoon will be sold, with his value trashed by his most recent blow out, all sorts of millions are being bandied about.
However there is a complete ignorance of the reality of their situation.
You have some punters referring to the monies made by the Europa Run being part of the kitty available to Gerrard!
Don’t they realise that these funds have gone to keeping the lights on?
Furthermore another crisis loan has been negotiated with Close Brothers to bridge the gap till ST monies arrive in May.
That piece of business seems to have been missed, or ignored, by the fans speculating on the millions which will be available.
Plus Big Mike gets no mention whatsoever in the guess how many millions will be available in the window game.
It seems that because the media has decided that neither Close Bros nor Sports Direct warrant a mention then the liabilities don’t exist.
So instead of guessing how many millions will be available to top up the squad the questions should be ‘how much are we into Close Bros for?’ and ‘how much is Sports Direct looking for?’
Of course it doesn’t help when you have no credit line from a bank which I’m sure I read somewhere!

  3. The fall out from these games is becoming tiresome. Win lose or draw, just move on. Social media has a helluva lot to answer for at times. Boring relentless over analysis, of immature and irresponsible behavior , fueled by the constant need to retain the moral high ground.

  4. Arfield got in Broony’s face at the end of the Ibrox game.
Did Broonie punch him, elbow him or kick out at him?
No, he looked at him and walked off the park with a wait till the next time look.
Rangers and their bench lost the rag, they were terrible losers as they saw the Champions win with a clear road to 8 IAR.
Get over it and as for Gerrard he’s came across as a wimp complaining that big bad Broonie had intimidated his poor wee boys.
Lost all respect for Gerrard. Rather than work through an apprenticeship in the English Championship or Div 1 his ego has drawn him to Ibrox.
Big bucks, big crowds and only Celtic in his way to use the Ibrox gig to fast track himself into the EPL.
Unfortunately for him he’s working for people that think nothing of resigning a manager or two.
If Stevie G and his squad don’t hit the ground running next season the pressure from the board and fans will be unbearable.
He’s not been here long enough to understand the significance of 9 IAR and 10 IAR.
You can bet your bottom dollar that whoever is leading Rangers into the 10 IAR season, 20/21, won’t survive the kick back when Celtic make more history.
In fact a Celtic treble treble this season will add heat to the fire going into next season.
Close Bros to be repaid, Ashley at the door, how much of the £20m ST monies will be left?
Perhaps Stevie G will be asked to put some of his considerable fortune where his mouth is?

  5. Broony’s aggressive smiling was obviously a ” shove ” to the bollocks of the huns.

He is obviously some sort of latter day Gorgon to these sensitive souls.

  6. C’mon Broony obviously attacked Kent’s fist with his face…anyone can see that…and imagine celebrating in front of the shy, gentle wee souls of an Ibrox persuasion..what an intimidating and shocking thing to do…

  8. Refer you to Shay Logan at Parkhead last season. Scott Brown has been getting away with it for too long. In recent weeks he has tramped on a Dundee player’s leg and a St Mirren player’s abdomen. Not stamped, I admit, so as Mikey observed on Sportscene it probably didn’t count as excessive force or brutal!
He just seems to be a nasty piece of work. Don’t know why he has to cross the line. He didn’t need to make the eight fingered gesture to the Rangers Fans – If he had just smiled there would be no case to answer.

    • Scott Brown ended the game in the corner. He turns to the Celtic fans in the south stand and celebrates with them.

That’s what happened. There are pictures that show this. No Sev/co fans are offended.

This is a post match deflection put out by Jabb a.

  9. Well written and succinct summary Phil. I would suggest that most of the blazers can be accused of not acting in the interests of association football and certainly every recipient of an EBT letter as well.

  10. I think the sfa are getting association football mixed up with snooker or some other sport where your told to ssshhh! all the time. Are they worried Scott standing 20 yards away celebrating another victory would upset all those super sensitive teddy bears? They were all ready annoyed about having to turn up an hour early, annoyed about having to stay back, annoyed at the colour of the seats and probably the grass also, annoyed about the result and probably most of their performance. It does not take much to annoy these fuckers but it should not mean that everyone else has to be miserable.

  11. I was joking in an earlier post when I suggested that Broonie would get done for excessive smiling and laughing.
There will be none of that over the top behaviour as far as the wise men at Hampden are concerned.
Scottish football is far too serious for that kind of carry on and it will just not be permitted.
Hovever help yourself to kicking someone in the bollocks, or off the ball, elbow or punching someone and at worst you will be treated the same as the happy, smiley man, if indeed you are cited at all.
The SFA disciplinary process is a shambles and, as usual, the losers were the ones who lost the rag, during and after the match.
In addition to the major flashpoints lets not forget that in the 2nd half Worral and Halliday committed atrocious tackles on Eddie and Forrest respectively, neither of which resulted in the red card they deserved.
Funny that Stevie G is being brought to account for comments to Madden, thats hilarious.
Was he greeting like a wean to Madden for not protecting his poor players from Broony’s excessive smiling?

    • The real “whataboutery” is the pathetic attempt to deflect from the “rangers” thuggery by the SMSM and now the SFA.

Brown did nothing wrong except to celebrate a deserved victory in the face of orchestrated violence and intimidation.

    • What exactly did SB do that was so over the top? Did he elbow another player in the face? No. Did he punch – or ‘push’ as the press would have it – someone in the face? No. Did he race across the pitch to confront another footballer? No. Earlier in his career, older, ‘wiser’ players knew they could get in his head, wind him up, see him red-carded. Now he’s the one to have wised up. There was no retaliation when Morelos elbowed him, none when Kent punched – and it was a punch, not a push – and none when Halliday charged at him. Sorry, he did smile and laugh – such heinous acts! – and I suspect somewhere in those smiles and laughs was a voice saying “I was like that once”. Punish prats who commit assault on the pitch, punish those who think it’s acceptable to throw bottles, coins and fireworks but for heaven’s sake you CANNOT punish someone for celebrating an important win.

The reaction and aftermath comments in the press and from those of a blue persuasion are uneerily like those uttered when Hibs had the temerity to win a cup for the first time in over 100 years – they ‘over-celebrated’ which was sufficient ffor the opposition to ‘retaliate’. No surprise it’s the same f**ked up opposition and even less of a surprise that there’s an upsurge in anti-social behaviour since they joined the top flight. All these saying it needs stamped out – from SFA, Holyrood and police force – they had the perfect opportunity to eradicate this in 2012 and BOTTLED it.

    • It’s FUCKIN HUNBELIEVABLE. we’ve got two governing bodies. One makes him TOP PLAYER in the country over the weekend and the other wants to BRING CHARGES against him for the same performance. The SFA have reached a whole new level in the ancient art of MAKING YOURSELF LOOK STUPID AND INCOMPETENT.

To be fair to them, it’s only right that they should reach this level first. After all it’s an art they invented.
