Yesterday the Brits were scheduled to leave the European Union.
However, they didn’t.
As anyone here in Ireland will tell you it actually takes quite a long time for them to leave places.
Indeed, they sometimes have to be asked in various ways before they take the hint.
Even then they tend to leave a bit of a mess behind them.
The failure to leave the EU yesterday gave the British far right an opportunity to develop a Dolchstoßlegende narrative around the issue.
This is not a happy movie and I cannot see it ending well.
My heart goes out to the many decent folks in Britain who are living through this xenophobic performance art and want no part in it.
Of course, you do not need to overreach to connect the vibe in Whitehall yesterday to the klan matchday experience.

The appearance of a Loyalist flute band at the Brexit rally yesterday indicates that the Ulsterisation of British politics is now a thing.

There are some very dark forces in the British political elite coalescing around the push to leave the European Union.
Moreover, their vision for UK society going forward sees things like the Working Time Directive as a heinous alien imposition.
It is highly useful for these posh conspirators to be able to call upon the Ibrox chaps to block the streets when they need to make that impact.
One of the star turns at the Brexiteer rally in Whitehall yesterday was this lovely chap.

Tomorrow some of his fellow fascists will be admitted to Celtic Park to watch the basket of assets take on the champions.
Because of the Muppet Show at Westminster the possible date for a No Deal Brexit has been pushed back a couple of weeks to April 12th.

That is, coincidentally, the day that General Ashley will seek damages from Sevco in the region of £10m for their ill-judged car boot sale.
I suppose it is just as well that there is now a “silent anonymous investor” just poised to plough in money.

I’m sure that the chaps on the sports desks are at this very moment conducting rigorous investigations into the bona fides of this putative sugar daddy.
After all, they just wouldn’t regurgitate PR pish to please the klan, because that wouldn’t be journalism.

Would it?
Aon rud eile…
A rare enough request from myself:
Dear reader, if the Celtic Foundation is close to your heart then please assist this lady if you can.

Gerrards demand for real cash to compete with Celtic must be sweet music to Kingco’s ears.
Doesn’t he realise that Ashley is about to come calling with an eye on a chunk of the ST revenue.
Looks as if El Buffoon and Tavernier will be the sacrificial lambs.
Dembele £20m
Rodgers £9m
Armstrong £7m
Van Dyk £7m
Thats a £43m differential right away plus a bigger ST intake, more income from the European campaign, more income from merchandising and sponsorship.
Yep, Stevie, asking the board to take Celtic on looks highly unlikely, though the rumoured silent investor might close the gap?
I’m sure the term ‘clusterfuck’ would be entirely appropriate to use for the shambles of a government we have foisted upon us. You would almost think they hadn’t availed themselves of a good old fashioned private education. HH
I’ve not seen any reply from the UK on the UN order to hand back the Chagos Islands to those islanders who were forcefully removed and to cap it all the UK then leased the biggest island to the good old US Air Force for a considerable amount of money, none of which was for the benefit of the indigenous population.
Anything that the UK government has meddled in has turned out to be a disaster.
Close to home we have a divided Ireland, further afield the UK meddling in the Middle East still reverberates and the partition of India and Pakistan resulted in a bloodbath.
We are now dangling at the end of a Brexit rope which our politicians have no idea how to fix.
A General Election sure ain’t the answer as May’s likely replacement will be Boris, Gove or some other right wing fanatic.
Let’s not even go there with Corbyn and the Labour Party.
Just as well for Jim McColl
