Making a statement

A well-run organisation will always seek to control the media landscape by putting out a unified corporate message.

Moreover, a clever company will never pish on the chips of their customer base by stating something that irks them.

This week the basket of assets kinda failed on both counts.

After the treatment of Steve Clarke at Ibrox midweek, a senior member of the Sevco High Command contacted the Serious Professional.

He told him that the club would need to put a statement and that addressing the issue could not be Parked until later.

The esteemed chairman was contacted and he said to put out a statement and that he didn’t need to see it.

Dave doesn’t do detail.

However, I’m told that there appears to have been a miscommunication and the usual intergalactic PR channels were not utilised for this statement.

Apparently, the unequivocal and entirely decent sentiments contained in the club statement caught several dignified types rather off guard.

Consequently, it was necessary to sooth the Ibrox klanbase and Club 1872 were required.

The author of that missive, peace be upon him, does sterling work for the basket of assets.

Moreover, he does it free of charge.

Whataguy!

A well-placed Ibrox source told me that by this time the intergalactic PR guru was on the case and he appraised Sevco’s iconic manager that the word of the week was “unsuitable” and not “sectarian”.

The ex-Liverpool U18 coach was reminded that the folk chanting at Steve Clarke were the ones who were keeping the show on the road.

Of course, today the out of control klan did what they wanted.

For the avoidance of doubt, The People are the lenders of last resort for the basket of assets.

Consequently, any condemnation of the klan for their atavistic hatreds cannot be too forceful.

  1. Personally, I’m pissed off with this, “Vocal minority” crap. It’s not a minority. It’s the vast majority. When they are in full wading voice and the cameras inadvertently sweep round ipox – this doesn’t happen often as they usually find a particularly interesting blade of grass to zoom in on when the choir starts – you’ll be hard pushed to spot anyone not singing his poisonous little heart out. It will take action from UEFA for anything to happen. Then the poor wee souls can add THEM to the long list of people who have it in for them.

  2. Perhaps if Gerrard points out his family’s Catholic background the sectarian aspect of the Ibrox support will disappear like snow off a dyke or will a banner be raised in his honour telling him where to go?

  3. When global sponsors don’t wish to be associated with someone their contracts are quickly terminated.

    Lance Armstrong: Nike, Trek, Budweiser

Tiger Woods: Gatorade, AT & T.

Will 32Red and Hummel consider making a ‘we’d like it to stop’ statement or are they happy to be associated with a toxic sectarian fan base?

    • Good point…

But you know the way things work..

‘Them’ and their media (that they think are against them ha!) will be watching everything that Celtic fans do home and away very very carefully.

They can’t becsern as the only or main problem even if it’s true.

Celtic need to be very carefull about this especially with the ‘nutter’ away element that there is at the moment.

The Green Brigade need to get a grip and be careful and clever with the banners and songs.

They will be watching AND listening!

  4. The cheats from Motherwell were sent packing today. Bring on the Hearts and send them on their way as well.
Hibs will be a stern test next weekend but Champions rise to the occasion.
4 cracking goals today whilst minus Broonie and McGregor. Young Henderson played a blinder and Edouard has first dibs from now on for free kicks.
Clancy was at his irritating worst today and at times lost complete control on the park.
He epitomises the failures of Fleming’s fast trackers.
Without doubt the current season has seen the dark underbelly of our match officials.
It’s not a pleasant sight seeing your dirty washing paraded in public.
Lost count of the number of times today where the linesman waited on the ref to make a throw in call, despite being much nearer to the action.
There was a moment in the first half where the ball had clearly gone out of play, clear to us in the Jock Stein upper, yet the linesman 5 yards away didn’t raise his flag.
It might seem trivial but it’s just indicative of the constant errors made.
I think Brendan is keeping his council on match officials because as was made perfectly clear at Ibrox the other night these guys have the power of life and death over your club and the more you complain the more the decisions will go against you.
It’s almost as if they were all part of some secret society!
What do you think Mr Maxwell, worth having a wee look?

    • I had hopes when Maxwell took the reins. Not high hopes, but hopes. However, he’s turning out to be possibly the most useless and ineffective yet!!

      • The guy is invisible. The SFA needed leadership and what we have is an impostor who since he took the job has said or done nothing to warrant his appointment.
Major questions have to be asked and answered about the SFA recruitment policies.
I believe they have a diversity executive who can field that particular question.
Best of luck to anyone who has e-mailed or written to the SFA on any subject as I know from experience having sent 100 plus e-mails to Regan that transparency is not their strong suit.
Why would you dodge a simple question as to how many drug tests have been carried out in the SPFL during the current season, or in previous seasons?
Has drug testing in Scottish football stopped, if so why?

        • He probably doesn’t even know.

Invisible is probably the best description of him. He was more visible and vocal when he was with the Jags. I don’t recall seeing him or hearing him since he moved to the SFA. It’s like they’ve put a recluse in charge!

  5. They’ve shot themselves square in the brown brogue clad foot..

The self-important and insincere spout from Dave King has been noted by the media…

… then today the very ‘peepul’ responsible ( well their traveling division anyway) go and compound their ‘unsuitable’ behaviour by mocking their latest target in giant print and song…

    …. but…

“everyone at Rangers “abhors the sectarian element that continues to be so prevalent in Scottish football.”

Maybe ‘they’ should actually do something about it then.

Stamping out the travelling bigots is easy….

    Don’t give them away tickets.

We know however that for all but 2/3 clubs that won’t happen as principles are outweighed by the lure of the dirty blue pound.

  6. So Phil,in one of your previous articles,’Dave King and sincerity,’ where you expressed surprise at seeing those words together in a sentence, has been proven totally justified. For he was that sincere,he didn’t even need to read his own supposed comments;no surprise there then.
‘Sectarian’ to be substituted for ‘unsuitable’ is really pedantically pathetic, although you couldn’t say that of their fans.Etiquette isn’t on their todolist,in fact it’s most likely not even in their vocabulary. That Steve Clark banner shows their level.(throw us another cracker like, ‘impecunious,’Phil, scramble for dictionary noo type words)
As for their own fans being sevcos’ last gasp final hope of raising funds, well, noo,am just saying this aloud once….they’re F☠️C&Ed.
For they stood idly by and watched it unfold before their eyes and did heehaw, and I’d wager that,YES,they will be that daft, gormless, ignorant and delusionally self entitled enough, that they will do the same again ‘dé jâ vous’ scenario.
Thanks Phil, their bad news puts a big Cheshire-cat-like smile on ma chops, and I thank you for that.

Motherwell NEED to be sportsmanlike, that ‘goal’ was a disgrace,
