World Mental Health Day 2018

Today is World Mental Health Day.

As regular readers will know I have been open about these issues that have impacted me adversely.

Over a decade ago I took part in an information campaign to combat prejudicial attitudes towards mental health problems.

I was aware that this openness would hand a cudgel to the klan to further smear me.

However, if my participation in that campaign helped one person then it was worth all the ad hominem abuse.

As if it was scripted one of my sources opened up to me today about his own struggles with depression.

I sent him the title of a book that I found helpful and reminded him that he could talk to me anytime that he needed to reach out.

This is a job for all of us.

If you’re worried about someone then trust your instincts and speak to them.

Crucially, if you are that someone then please reach out.

There is help there.

Mind yourself.
