Stadium troubles in Glasgow both real and invented

While I was down the Rocky Road wearing the NUJ jersey this week I was amazed to receive some troubling news.

Apparently, Celtic Park is “falling down”.

An amazing story if true.

Ironically I was in a phone conference about health & safety matters when I received the message.

Afterwards, it didn’t take me more than three calls to trusted sources to nail down the provenance of this fable.

The provenance of this fiction is a PR galaxy far far away.

It would appear that Mr David Cunningham King’s preferred communications guru decided to launch this one into orbit.

It was telling that he didn’t even try with any of the usual suspects in the Stenography Corps.

Instead, he approached Sir State Aid in Belfast.

This chivalrous young fellow was more than eager to assist in the cause of dignified disinformation.

If there are any chaps on the sports desks who want a stadium story then perhaps they should contact the outside broadcast organisations.

Ask them if they are happy with the facilities at Ibrox.

Ask them about ducting giving way underfoot.

Now that IS a health and safety story worth pursuing.

  1. Another informmercial from Chris Jack in the GET for the share issue that will never happen. Give us your million quid and we’ll do what’s right – you can trust us.

btw, an “investment” than can never be returned is a gift or a donation but it is most definitely not an investment – if in doubt there is a neutral source you can consult – a big book called a dictionary.

  2. Going for 55 back on the agenda. Cue pitch invasion following a goal against Ross County ffs. Shades of the slightly over the top celebrations following the late goal at Firhill last season.
Wins tomorrow night and Saturday will see the gap to Newco increase to 17 points before they kick off against Hibs next weekend, albeit with 2 games in hand
Celtic will have 12 games left to play.
Is the going for 55 brigade expecting a Celtic collapse and 4 defeats when only one game has been lost in the previous 24?

  3. Forgive my naivity, but what is the Sevco Facing Administrators’ public response to a televised pitch invasion in Scotland’s top tier competition.

    • They were clearly protecting Cummings in case any Hibees in the crowd went for him.
Keith Jackson apparently averted his gaze during the goal celebration. He has a history of making it up as he goes along as he undoubtedly will.
Don’t get the Daily Radar but did Jacko cover the Australian open final via the TV at home?

  4. yet another blatant penalty not given against sevco today.

I had a wee chuckle when andy walker said “thats a couple of refereeing decisions that have went against county this week”

YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THAT SAID ABOUT SEVCO EH?

  5. That extended Chris Jack “exclusive” infommercial in the GET for Club1690’s latest begging bowl extravaganza is an absolute cracker. If you want an insight into the muddled and befuddled thinking of the average clubber when it comes to corporate finance – or in fact any finance – this is hard to beat. The language is that of a call to arms against threats real and present, of challenges and survival, of control and duty. Fascinating. The socializing and normalizing of the concept of numerous share issues stretching into the future is also very telling. And my favourite bit is “when the call comes . . .”. Classic.

  6. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Deliberate hand ball is a booking offence ýet Madden laughed off the Hibs player catching the ball with both hands to stop it going out of play.
On at least two other occasions the ball went out of play yet the linesmen failed to spot it.
After the offside flag against Griffiths at Firhill Brendan is quite correct to ask if these numpties know the rules.
Every fan in the country knows you can’t be offside direct from a throw in but not the graduates from the Fleming school of just make it up as you go along and as a bonus if it hinders Celtic you will find yourself on the shortlist for a Scottish Cup Final.
How dare Lawwell question the motives behind Regan and the blazers holiday jaunt to the Americas when he’s stood on the sidelines as a fraudulent UEFA licence was awarded to Oldco and has been silent whilst King has acted as De Facto Chairman of the Ibrox club with Regan and his board ignoring yet another transgression of their own rule book.
If East Fife or Livingston had acted in this manner the SFA would have thrown the book at them.
What about the Park family’s significant shareholding in both Accies and Newco? Does this not raise issues with the SFA?
We know, or are led to believe, that when Ogilvie’s shareholding in both Hearts and Rangers was revealed when he was SFA President, the saintly Campbell did the right thing, he transferred both to his wife!
Hooray for Ogilvie, no one could ever accuse him of a conflict of interest, no siree Bob.

  7. A tad off topic here. I am not in the habit of slagging off my teams players but Dembele’s body may have been on the park for an hour today but his mind was most certainly elsewhere.

  8. In need of a cheering up, I had a wee trawl through The Bears Den forum and wasn’t disappointed. One particular thread piqued my interest in which Sevco had applied for a building warrant for the replacement of cladding on one of their stands. One particular ‘bear’ (not sure whether he is of the teddy or yogi persuasion) asked a fairly pertinent question. “Will the new cladding retain the history of the old cladding…?” Titter ye not…..

  9. I know the blue room were planning to transform the theatre of dreams into something resembling the Allianz Arena where Bayern Munich ply their trade. A second oppinion was sought and bigger stadium was decided upon – one with esculators everywhere, the worlds largest shopping centre, a gigantic spa, a 50 screen imax, a museum big enough to tell the rangers story, a centre parcs, an international airport and train terminal. All of this comes at a great cost but will worth it.

  10. why would celtic let the SFA use celtic park for games the SFA have never done celtic any favours in fact they have been anti celtic at every opportunity, time to tell them to go F*** yourself.

  11. When the SFA first mooted the idea of vacating Hampden the first thing I thought was
    What’s in it for Sevco
I will be watching with great interest

    • In theory, an SFA cash injection – if they live that long.

In practice, inspection by foreign FAs and UEFA officials – ooops – and not to mention Johnny Foreigner and their press corp tweeting images of dilapidation.

Maybe Rangers will have to settle for a large retainer fee from the SFA – but not actually host any games.

  12. Fat Sally has thrown his trowel into the ring as Scotland manager. Come on SFA – what are you waiting for – you know it makes perfect sense – you were made for each other – it’s your destiny – he was born for the job and has been working towards it ever since – please – please – please – Fat Sally for manager.

Anyway – while they form a sub committee etc I’m off down the gym to work on my pelvic girdle cos I could be doing some extreme, endurance laughing very soon.

  13. Meanwhile, the most excellent Graeme Murty looks forward to a potentially fantastic second half of the season. I get the impression he’s not looking to finishing just 2nd?

    • No doubt someone in the media, or Level 5, same thing I suppose, will invent a separate league table for the second half ot the season.
There will be huge headlines if Newco reduce the current 11 point deficit, assuming a win at Dingwall today.
Who knows, perhaps the Daily Radar or ET will sponsor a new trophy to honour the achievement and Dave King will chip in with ‘The Real Rangers’ didn’t participate in the pre Xmas title race so it doesn’t count.
      Oh how right he is.
I’m shocked that the media isn’t all over Brendan’s assumption that Celtic will be playing CL qualifiers in July. With Celtic providing the bulk of the squad why is the Celtic manager questioning the wisdom of the SFA, Regan, on the holiday jaunt to the Americas?
      Presumptious is he not?
Of course if Super Ally gets the gig, no laughing at the back, the likes of Martin, Jack, Wallace, Cummings, Holt will all be in the squad.

  14. Phil, What do you think keeps the Serious Professional at Ibrox? If he is as good as you present – I have my doubts – then surely he could find a better paid, less stressful gig with more respect from his employers elsewhere?

  15. Surely the muppets at the SFA must understand that if they accept the “joint” proposal by Celtic and Rangers to host international games, they’ll soon be playing them all at Celtic Park – ouch – when either Ibrox is condemned as a death trap or Sevco go into liquidation.

  16. Phil; On the subject of stadium issues, curious if you ever got anything more from the FOI requests to GCC? I know that you got some info back, but thought there was a follow-up.

Is it simply a case of them getting the safety certificate on a ‘handshake’ or did they ever get around to actually doing any repairs? Are there any nets up under the roof of the stands?

Just curious if there was anything more on this as that stadium has to be in need of major renovation work.

  17. It must be time to rename ibrox stadium to bring in some much-needed revenue, surely? The Weller/Foxton Arena has a nice ring to it! They could even adopt a new motto – Walls Come Tumbling Down. As for their “ultras”, they could be renamed as the NAE STYLE COUNCIL.
