Not everyone in Scotland is willing to play along with the Sevco transfer hustle

I had stated here previously that the January transfer window would yield important public data apropos Sevco’s finances.

So far there have been no real surprises in terms of the “swoops” and the “jetting in”.

It has been loan deals for players who are out of favour, for one reason or another, with their parent clubs.

What HAS surprised me is that some within Planet Fitba have gone seriously off-message regarding their dealings with the Ibrox outfit.

Steve Clarke has certainly made an impact on the Killie squad.

Like all successful leaders, he has set standards for his guys.

Moreover, he has taken that approach outside of the Rugby Park dressing room to how other clubs should treat his club.

Not surprisingly he is unimpressed with Sevco.

“There’s been a bid, nowhere near acceptable.

“I would be a little bit sad if I was the player, to be honest, that the bid was so low.”

Give what Sevco bid for Jamie Murphy (nothing up front, but we will see you right in May) then I am not surprised.

What is refreshing is that Clarke wasn’t willing to doff his cap in the direction of skint Sevco when the made an “offer” for his player Jordan Jones.

The Killie player Kris Boyd went further:

“It pretty much sums it up as there’s a common theme the whole time. There’s one club unsettling everybody. If they want players then pay the money and come and take them.

“There’s no point in dropping phone calls in here saying they want to this or that. If you want something you go and get it.

“We all know how football works. If a deal has been agreed and Jordan is happy with it, then go and pay the price to the football club.

“Jamie Walker was the exact same. There’s a list, we could go on and on.

“There’s calls been made and nothing has been backed up to do something about it. Pay the money and take the players if you want them. It’s easy to unsettle players now.”

Ouch!

The folk at the basket of assets were hoping that the Ibrox brand would allow them to disrespect other players and other clubs.

That might have been that in PR terms, but then it happened again with another club

Awkward…

The boss of Hamilton Accies Martin Canning dismissed the Sevco bid for Greg Docherty as not “even worth considering”.

I’m told that Director of Fantasy Mark Allen is working to a list of around ten players.

That is the dossier which he showed to Derek McInnes last year.

The ex-Citeh man has been told that he has a budget £500k  to bring in these players and that the acquisitions must be wage neutral.

Greg Docherty and Jordan Jones were on the list in question.

My information is that the first payment for Greg Docherty was to be paid in mid-August 2018 and the second tranche in August 2019.

Therefore, an immediate downpayment of zero as per Jamie Murphy.

Little wonder that both clubs are less than impressed with Sevco.

So far the only “swoops” at the Engine Room Subsidiary have been loan deals.

The cunning plan to buy Jamie Murphy with no money up front was dashed when Brighton thought this not a very attractive deal for them.

It was your humble correspondent who stated that the transfer would turn into a loan deal and it duly did so.

For the avoidance of doubt if the loan fee is not paid at the end of the season then Murphy will go back to his parent club.

Sevco is in the market for free players via loan deals.

There is an element of grandstanding for their fans when they make “bids” for players.

It is a way of telling the Ibrox clientele that there is money there to spend on players.

There isn’t.

Sevco are operating on financial fumes and they’re desperate to get some of Pedro’s high earners out the door during this window.

However, they cannot tell the fans that.

The chaps in the Blue Room appear to have this Faustian pact with The People never to tell them the truth about financial problems at Ibrox.

So these putative bids for players are just episodes in another staunch chimera to fool the easily fooled in the dignified seats.

Of course, that should be scrutinised by the local media, but they have high-Level orders.

What is encouraging is that managers of two provincial clubs in the West of Scotland are proving that they’re not prepared to participate in this tawdry charade.

This is unquestionably a positive development.

If only the chaps on the sports desks would follow their lead.

I know, I know.

I’m being silly now…

  1. Why can’t club CEO’s and owners do their homework on sevco before doing business with them.Their old club rangers were liquidated in 2012 and after being sold to investors they have ran up debts of god knows how many millions of pounds.
After two or three different board of directors they finally allowed a Glib and Shameless racketeer to become chairman (who along with two other directors)were part of the board when they were LIQUIDATED.Who in their right mind would have any dealings with this club and those that do deserve what comes their way.

  2. A wee update….
Hamilton seemed to have bowed to pressure from their player…and the Media.
Docherty did not train today and has been left out of the squad for Cup Tie against Motherwell.
So much for standing up to Sevco…
It will be interesting to see how much they get….and the extended terms about how they get it.

And every single aspect is underpinned by John Ure Primrose’s Pledge to the masonic cause, his recruitment from the masonic and orange lodges, and the secret keepers, aka “the secret combination” the “Gadianton Robbers” Lucifer’s earthly minions, and the Bilderberg propaganda machine. Keep up the great work Phil. This malarkey needs to be buried under Ibrox for all time.

Is there no limit to the number of loan players that can be named in a match day SPFL squad?

  5. The Naismith to Hearts move on the face of it seems strange.
Allegedly on £60k per week at Norwich there is no way Hearts are paying his wages in full or even half of them.
Perhaps Norwich see an opportunity to put him in the shop window with regards to a summer move elsewhere in England?
Surely nothing to do with the player’s assertion that it wasn’t the same club when he jumped ship in 2012?
    Very strange move.

  7. 500,00 for ten players.

Not going to be the managers selection.

And all on free to help sevco with their season and not their own teams.

    50,000 a player?

8 months interest free then a paltry sum.

    Comparisons to carilion are shocking!

What’s your thoughts on Celtic Phil, are they even interested in europa? And if so on the current team do you think we stand a chance without strengthening ? Would be great to hear your thoughts on this matter for me personally ? Thanks Phil ☘️

Thanks Phil. The gullibillies actually think they are on the right track. The incoming loanees are capable of stopping ten in their insular thoughts.Getting rid of Pedros apostles and bringing in hungry players with a point to prove by possibly beating celtic in a game will ensure street parties .Heaven forbid they stop the taigs and tarriers winning the league surely a public holiday must be declared as the hoops have a bigger budget.Establishment club. What happened before will happen again.Like Lemmings they have a penchant for cliff tops. Not for suicidal jumps of course just club migration.Rangers,Sevco what next?

  9. Spot on Phil. The powers that be at rangers right now are a disgrace to the rangers that guys of my age know.
The sad thing is that a large proportion of the current support seem to be easily taken in by them.
Makes me proud and pleased to be a tim and lucky to have a board and management structure in place that I feel I can trust.
Rangers are a million miles behind celtic right now in so many ways and long may it continue.

  10. What is overlooked is that when you have no money, getting loan players in to upgrade (cough) the squad is an smart short term fix. In essence, they are getting to try out the players before having to decide whether it is worth buying them. Problem though is that you do not develop any young players that you can sell on to make additional money.

One question I do have, do the loaning clubs pay all the salary of the players sent out on loan or are sevco picking up the costs/some of it?

  11. As with RFC(1872-2012), they continue to try and fleece all and sundry around them. Out of curiosity how many loan players can you have at any one time? Seems to me the window slam shut shortly on them. Found it interesting that Herrera was reported as saying he wasn’t for moving….want a bet! Theirs something of a karma feel to Naismith going to Hearts, a club that took its punishment shaped up and moved on in an honest fashion…unlike cousin William along the M8!

If you shop around odds of 11/1 can be had for the draw.
Now it’s a fact that one of the teams involved is desperate for revenue and the take from a replay at Ibrox would be a godsend, Fraserburgh would also welcome their share of the gate. ?

They’re wee teams. But they will be worth 6 mullyin each once they’ve played for ‘ra mighty Gers’.

  17. They are however bringing in a number of loan players (and possibly strengthening compared with start of windae).
Murty is there until the end of the season, so they don’t want him buying players the next manager (McInness ha ha) won’t like. So loan ranger deals seem a good tactic (especially since they have no greenbacks anyway…).
    A question toutefois:
Is there a limit to the number of loan players that a club are allowed in a given season in the SPFL?

  20. To be blunt, any club still doing business with Sevco on anything but a cash-up-front basis pretty much deserves what they get. Now that the idea of administration has been floated on the MSM, even the most inattentive clods of earth and football chairmen have had the opportunity to do a little research – and the information is out there for those who look, thanks to pioneers like Phil, John James and RTC.

It’s the small, non-football businesses I feel sorry for – the face painters, the brass polishers, the brogue surgeons.

Well maybe not so much the brogue surgeons…

  22. Phil,

I agree with the central point of your article re Sevco finances and their questionable tactics in acquiring players.

However, from their perspective they are finally embarking on getting a player pool that can be both sustainable and effective in the SPL.

Whither they have a manager that is smart enough to mould the new players into an effective team, is another matter. Ditto, on whither they have enough time left in the season to get it together, is also questionable. However, it has to be said, from the player pool perspective, this is the best strategy that Sevco have devised in their short existence.

If they can shed the high earners without too much financial damage, this could be a corner turning moment for them.

    • They don’t seem to be shedding any high earners… Pena will still ve costing them as the parent club. The incoming ‘stars’ will not be playing for £900′ a week either.

  23. Phil,

I assume this has been mentioned before but surely (apart from Sevco) every other club especially in the SPFL will require xxx amount of money to operate and xxx to be used on players. If they have no money left then the latter does not happen (yes we know Sevco work the other way around) surely this is also an unfair sporting advantage?

But penny-pinching around Kilmarnock and Hamilton will provide players who are?

Meanwhile here in handshake land Murray can run up almost the same debts but allowed to cherry pick the profitable bits of his rotten empire for buttons. MPs now want the directors of Carrillion charged with fraud, their pensions and benefits stopped. Meanwhile here Murray is allowed to keep his knighthood and still held up as a jewel in the free enterprise Crown.

  26. The other upside to this story is that other clubs know they’re skint and lowball offers for any Pedro’s heroes is likely to be accepted, which will be well below what King and Co place their market value at.

Interestingly, there hasn’t been a made stampede to snap up the Galictico stars, which is surprising after they won the Florida world cup and all. I wonder why?

  27. It’s clear what their strategy is, get in cheap loan players and push the admin button. That way the Administrator ( in a pre arranged agreement ) will dump the high earners and allow the loanees to stay. This way they avoid the signing ban that admin will trigger and still have a decent squad to the end of the season. The fee for Murphy will not get paid, but they will still have the player for this season, with the hope admin will allow them a fresh start next season, by which time they may, just may, play within the rules.
The SFA/SPFL have missed a trick by allowing only 5 years between admin events. Sevco will drop down a few places, but will still be able ( with help from the men in black ) to stay up and maybe even a top six place.
The other clubs should be speaking up now as they will not have a chance later.

Everyone in the induustry knew Carillion’s reputation for aggression, disrespect and reluctance to pay. An increasing number would simply not deal with them because they read between the lines – others would only work with them with padded quotes as built in insurance.

But many continued to do business with them because they felt they had no option – Carillion was so powerful in the industry – everywhere – too big to ignore.

    Then BANG, they were GONE ! ! ! !

Anyone doing business with RIFC plc and TRFC Ltd should learn a lesson from Carillion – because if they can’t see the parallels then chances are they will be losing their shirt in the not too distant.

Now we have the chairman of Accrington Stanley coming out and telling how the media and agents were underhand in their dealings for sevco in the transfers of Windass and Crooks (unfortunate surname).
When will the smsm cotton on to the facts. Sevco have heralded a quintet of “stars” into ibrokes with the help of a fawning smsm who between them haven’t played as many games all season for their parent clubs as some of the fringe players at ibrokes.
Now that some chairmen and managers have grown a pair and publicly called out sevco maybe more will stand up and be counted.
As for I McCall how reprehensible and low can you go to publicly humiliate a young professional going about his business just to show how “loyal you are to the cause”.
