A winter’s tale of austerity and strength

Today the Murty revolution at Sevco formally got underway at Rugby Park.

When your defenders are skinned for pace at the near post by Kris Boyd then you know where you are headed.

The two best teams in Scotland squared up to each other at a sold-out Celtic Park.

It was a tough contest, but the 3-0 scoreline didn’t flatter the champions.

Celtic are already preparing for the challenges of 2018 by bringing in defender Marvin Compper.

However, I learned today that senior folk from Celtic were in London on Thursday of this week and that they met with representatives of FOUR players.

The message is clear, Celtic are not standing still, even though they have the best squad in Scotland.

Across the city, the January window will also be a busy period, but in a different way.

Young Master Murts has been told to plan ahead on the basis that he will not have Pedro’s high earners at his disposal.

Sevco’s director of football Mark Allen will be the chap who does the deals.

He has been given two objectives:

  • Get players off the wage bill
  • Bring in transfer fees.

If players go out on loan then it must be on the basis that the loaning club pays 100% of the wages.

Expect some of Warburton’s players who are currently out on loan to be called back to bolster the squad.

For the avoidance of doubt, young Master Murts is an austerity manager.

Sevco are currently in third place, three points behind the Dons and ahead of Hibernian by the same amount.

The basket of assets are currently 11 points behind Celtic and the Parkhead side have a substantial goal difference over Sevco.

Of course, nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.

However, it is reasonable to conclude that Celtic will strengthen this January while Sevco finally awakens to the realities of austerity.

The alternative to that financial rigour is insolvency.

Mr Alastair James Johnston knows this to be true.

He is aware that his beloved Engine Room Subsidiary must have a team on the field that they can afford and not one that The People think is their birthright.

Young Murts has now masterminded back to back defeats in his last two matches.

Meanwhile, Celtic have people in London in negotiations with the representatives of quality players.

The outlook for the followers of Espanyol Glasgow should be bleak.

However, I’m sure that the local media will cheer them with a Christmas tale about billionaires and moonbeams…

  1. I see the Sevco DofF has not taken long to come out and say to everybody “It wiznae me” who fcuked up.

It must be a pure nightmare going in to work at the biggotdome these days.

    Long may it continue,

  2. Hello Phil, I flew up to Glasgow on Tuesday evening for the Thistle game the following day and Messrs Rodgers and Lawwel were on the flight. So to hear that other reps were there on Thursday was very encouraging.

They were not in suits and tie but otherwise dressed for business at a football club.

    Hail Hail and Merry Xmas

  3. Un-named Sky speculation, with zero supporting evidence, that King will appeal Lord B’s TOP judgement. Yuletide germaline for the bears after a rapid spate of surprise pees at recent news. No doubt a follow up by Andrew Dickson to his bed wetting, angst ridden analysis of Lord B’s logic – including the classic “period in administration in 2012”.

Erm, AD, King will need grounds on which to be granted an appeal to the Supreme Court in London in the form of a point of law. And this might be? Journo 101, AD!

Btw, AD, Rangers left the period in administration in 2012 via the one-way door marked LIQUIDATION.

  4. They are playing Mark Allen out of position – he made his name buying players from a large a la carte menu at Man City without too much thought for the cost – and loaning out those who didn’t shine after a period of bench warming. Kim Kardashian is more familiar with austerity and book balancing than Mark Allen – watch closely and enjoy.

  6. Update Bhoys on Sevco betting, Skybet are again accepting bets on Murtys marauders finishing in bottom six at odds of 150/1.
Admin event is automatic 15 point deduction which would put them in bottom six now (8th place). Will they be stronger after January transfer window?
Merry Xmas and a prosperous new year to all the Celtic family

  7. On the signing of Torre Anre Flo for old dead Rangers:

David Murray: “ moonbeams of success will shine on Ibrox”

On the takeover by Craig Whyte “ a Rangers supporter all his life with wealth off the radar”

And later “not one £30m warchest….. but two”.

David Murray proclaimed in a six page Daily Record spectacular a floating pitch, a casino and a world class hotel for Rangers when they were broke, in debt and up for sale in his imaginary Rangers village.

No Celtic fan believed it. Rangers fairy stories persist. Anyone giving SevcoRangers coin is a mug.

My money goes on my family not mad sociopaths running a club.

  8. They’ve chucked it for 2017/18. It’s been a disaster.

The petulant juvenile statement on McInnes was legendary. It’s there forever. And what do they do? Confirm Murty.

Murty coming out with Celtic historical lines like not “filling the jersey” today. Who’s surprised? It’s his background.

Bears (some of whom are family and friends) need to vote with their feet and leave seats empty in silent, dignified protest. It’s how you bring change. Force something to happen. Or sit on this duping for years.

  9. Espanyol are better than them.

Espanyol won 1-0 today against Atletico Madrid.

Get your facts right MacGiollabhain and stop playing up the Scottish game and knocking the Spanish. I know racism when I see it 🙂

    • That’s a bizarre comment….where is the racism….?
For the avoidance of doubt, as Phil likes to say…..let me explain it if I can….
In a great many cities you have two big teams jousting for supremacy….Manchester, Milan, and even smaller clubs who have a close rivalry and battle to be the bigger fish….Sheffield, Bristol, Dundee….Genoa….
Such is not the case in Barcelona where Espanyol are doomed to forever live in the shadow of their illustrious rivals….which is the prevailing situation in Glasgow and seems like it will remain thus…barring a Saudi or Russian gazillionaire getting the keys to the door down at Edmiston Drive….

    • It’s got fuck all to do with Espanyol being a good football team or not. It has to do with Espanyol being the poor city rivals of another side…IE: BARCELONA

just the way Sevco will be in our shadow forever

  10. Different class Phil as always.

I wonder if one of the players is a GK?

I would really like to see Charly Musonda in a Celtic shirt even if it is only on loan.

I would like us to buy Paddy Roberts (I think we will get him)
