No Progres for Sevco

It is difficult to overstate the negative impact that this result will have on the financial situation at the five-year-old club.

Earlier today the finances for the deal to bring Graham Dorrans to Ibrox was being discussed within the Sevco High Command. As well as the money brought in for the Barrie McKay deal, another £800k had to be found.

At the time of writing, there are two splits at Ibrox.

One is in the dressing room, and the other is in the Blue Room.

The effect of the former was plain to see tonight.

However, it is the latter fissure which will account for the largest consumption of jelly and ice cream on Planet Fitba since 2012.

The half-arsed financial plan for this season was to make the group stages of the Europa League.

Even at that, with best case scenario on points won and full houses, the Holding Company Vehicle was still running at a massive deficit.

Now?

Well, dear reader, you do the math!

As ever  The People are stunningly credulous and soon they will be gazing in awe at some high-Level squirrel.

What they don’t seem to be able to grasp is that Sevco is a loss making business without a credit line from a bank.

They are also rather shite at football.

For the avoidance of doubt…

  1. “It is hard to overstate the negative impact that this result will have at the 5 year old club”

I could have stopped reading right there.

    Of course, I didn’t.

I read and re-read it. It sounded better every time.

A day my old man would have loved as he was told the stories handed down and passed on of the hatred that was shared by so many if you were not one of the klan.
    The liquidation
    The death
    The Brexit progres
The betrayal of the Huns by their own
What a time to be alive and to have witnessed what so many knew to be an injustice.

    • Zed, Can you supply us with an email address. I just hope, like yourself, that there are many fans who feel strongly enough to do so. However, I also realise that there whingers aplenty who will never do so.

  4. Well, the green boot ban worked a treat. The motivational WATP slogans did their job.
I think the last leg in this, given the rage I’ve seen in the peepil since the result, will be the banishment of those darned kaffliks (foreign & homegrown) – that will turn this great Holding Vehicle Institution around.
I’m not religious at all but after the triumphalism over the weekend in Glasgow, the DUP inspired boldness of our 6 fingered cousins, maybe this is the rebalancing/karma beginning.

Keep up the good work Phil

  5. Will be interested to see what figures ‘Rugger Guy’ comes up with..
But my understanding that Europa revenue in raw cash terms (unless you go all the way) is not going to get you financial security for years to come.

The implications are more accumulative due to the lack of exposure in Europe, the home gate money certainly, the feel good factor generated (ahem), the merchandise sales thus generated (ahem, ahem), improved and additional sponsorship deals (cough), attracting better players during the two transfer windows (splutter) , and investing (he he he) that income in a way that gives genuine returns…

    Oh Dear!

They are saying last night was the worst Europen result in Scottish club footballing History.
Outside of May 1967.. I think its the best!!!

Fourth best team in Luxembourg they are saying. Defeating the THIRD best team in Scotland.

Now what time is that Supreme Court result due out?

  7. Theresa May will be on the phone to Brother Pedro this morning, asking him how to get out of Europe so quickly. Maybe next year, they could be our representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest. I think that would seem them in Europe a bit longer than 180 minutes.

  8. Have SEVCO and the SFA dodged a bullet with them not Progres(s)ing (sic) in the EuroLeague, from a legal point of view?

  9. Even though it is funny, and it is, the licence in the first place to grant them entry is not. Unaudited accounts, with a chairman saying soft loans were required in June, yet the corrupt sfa give them entry into Europe.
Why no shout from Hearts or any other team who finished below Sevco,is just bewildering.
But it is soooo funny another bowl.

  11. They seem to have survived so many near thing’s in the last 5 years but this feels so reminiscent of 2012 – gambling on a European run and a poor result closing the last doors.
Amongst the hubris and bullshit around that club there must also be some sense in the boardroom.
The financial task must now look utterly ridiculous – no prospect of raising money through equity so no payback for directors who are now the only source of finance.

Clearly there’s a lack of communication. Has Kenny not been learning his Spanish and Portuguese phrases?

  15. Bring back Super Ally. We will never know how great a manager he really is [Keith Jackson, Daily Record].

I cannot see Sevco taking any of Celtic’s three trophies from them this season.

Perhaps the SFA could wangle Sevco entry and home games in the Petrofac cup?

Cup home games will be critical to survival this season. Corrupt draws necessary.

    Reply
    • They used up those last season. Mathematical probability of the home draws they received was ridiculous, they’ll never get away with it two seasons in a row.

      Reply
    • They are already defying the law of averages with their incredible run of home draws, the SFA and SPFL really will be testing credulity with another season of home draws for them!

  16. The soft loan guys are all relatively wealthy men. Relatively being the important word here. In comparison to me and probably the vast majority of the followers of this site they have wealth we can only dream of. But their wealth IS finite. None of them are billionaires or remotely close.
They simply cannot keep bailing out sevco season after season after season. There has to come a time when, either individually or collectively, they decide enough is enough and cut their losses.
Unless at that point, someone who genuinely does have wealth off the radar steps in, they will be truly fucked.
As fucked as the most fucked thing in the whole of fuckity fuckdom. Deader than Monty Python’s deceased parrot. The quicker that day comes the better.

However, the best assessment of their finances will be made on September 1st when we see how many players they have sold etc.

At least the Red Imps weapon will be put away now by Re Peepul.

  20. Never underestimate Sevco.
This should be a warning to all observers of the new team. They are a rare phenomenon; even the most sceptical football fans would have expected them to progress at the expense of the 4th best team in Luxembourg. I suppose they can count themselves lucky not to have drawn the second or third best team; that could have been a real drubbing. The “follow followers” must be wondering about their season ticket advances and the failure of European referees to rise to the high standards of our ” honest mistake merchants”. How the Daily Rangers spins this will be interesting.

  21. Well the club shares have crashed after this.

    No euro revenue.

Big Mike cashed in and got out before the shares tumble.

I really feel sorry for Regan and the SFA. All that dodgy effort for nothing.

    Haw haw haw…hee haw…

Well they speculated to accumulate… haw haw haw…

All the speculative money spent with zero accumulation.

Sevco the gift that keeps on giving.

All I can say is girfuy Regan and the SFA for giving them a corrupt FFP breaking license. That should still be investigated by UEFA.

King’s management of this club on and off the field is shocking.

I expect a policy of only Orange boots to be worn, to be released tomorrow.

  25. You’re alesta so doom and gloom Phil. Sevco won’t go home open handed, they’ll get their share of the gate money. And the pictures made it look as though the Niederkorn stadium (capacity 4830) was quite full. It’s an ill wind that blows no good.

    Reply
    • They don’t get any share of the gate money. If I was the Chairman, President, whatever, of Progres I’d be worried about getting the money for the the tickets given to sevco to sell to the bears or the money for the damage to the stadium. Remember the stunt they pulled with Celtic last season.

At least they enjoyed their three hours of fame. £6M Barry away to Notts forest for £500k. Priceless. All we need is good news tomorrow for the old club who played at Ibrokes. Perfect storm time. I hope.

  30. Well Phil, I think the advice you said given to young McKay, to sit tight, will certainly be sound advice. The dressing room split will soon be as wide as the Clyde in Govan and, the split in the Blue Room non-existant as they unite and Pedro is shipped home before the September weekend.

  31. This is just so epic, after them singing about the Lisbon Lions not seeing 10 in a row and behaving like animals in the town centre of Luxembourg before the game and Glasgow last Saturday it is just too surreal.

I feel like I’m living in the matrix as you couldn’t write the script.

Their fans will be venting a lot of anger over the coming weeks.

Administration is surely knocking on the door now.

    Reply
    • Administration comes from unpaid creditors pushing that button.
Most of the Sevco debt is internal so Admin is unlikely.
However, this is a massive financial blow.
      No question about that.

      Reply
      • Debt might be internal. However wages need to be paid. Cash flow kills more businesses than anything else. How long can you run a business that spends more than it earns?

        • Unless the same faces step up with added hefty soft loans I think they’re Donald Ducked. There is still the issue of the Takeover Panel and the rotten roofs, plus the Magic Hat compo case. How many Sevco jersey’s does Ashley need to sell to cover that? This is before the revenue catastrophe of losing to a part-time Euro outfit over 180 mins tonight. You could look at it they did well for a first ever Euro tie to run Progres close. Steady Progres.
