When you want an enemy to be your ally

A few days ago a junior member of the Sevco High Command remarked to the Senior Professional about a possible change of ownership at Newcastle United.

If that came to pass said the Quintessentially British youngster, then perhaps the door would be open for General Ashley to form an alliance with the Blue Room chaps.

Now, there is wishful thinking and then there is pishful thinking…

It is clear that The People are happy that the Sevco High Command are spending money.

However, they are applauding the sight of their own cash going out the door on new signings.

As I have cautioned here recently, then transfer figures being regurgitated in the Off The Radar press should be discounted.

Actually, that’s what quite a few of the new players were by their previous clubs.

Discounted.

Although the putative fees have a high-Level origin the salaries being paid to them are real enough.

Of course, Pedro is happy that he is getting the players that he wants.

A few wise heads on Planet Fitba I have spoken to rate Bruno Alves and Ryan Jack is a proven SPFL performer.

However, they all elected to take the Fifth on the rest of the acquisitions.

A few of them mentioned the impact of the Scottish weather as the dark nights approached.

How the new guys will react to a wintery night in Dingwall remains to be seen.

The Graham Dorrans saga seems to have many instalments, just like the offer from Sevco.

Blowing most of the season ticket money on building a new squad is certainly a bold move.

What is key for the Sevco High Command is that unwanted players are moved out of the door ASAP.

Failure to do so could create a major cashflow issue.

I have discussed the current episode of the Sevco sitcom with Rugger Guy.

He wisely said that he would wait until the close of this transfer window before crunching the numbers.

However, he stated that the current behaviour doesn’t look financially sustainable.

It is almost as if the Sevco High Command are gambling on a really good run in Europe to keep the lights on.

Hmmm, that sounds familiar…

It is rather sad to see how easy it is to convince The People that something other than the crushingly obvious is taking place.

Five years on from the death of the original Rangers it would appear that they have learned little.

In the meantime, General Ashely is focused on having another day in court with the Sevco High Command on the opposing side.

  1. Can someone tell me why they will be allowed to play in Europe ?
As I understand it….they are in breach of the Financial Regulations governing a Licence.
Given that to be the case …then there is no way our Football Governors, here in Scotland, would approve such a thing.
    Aw…Hoad oan a minute….
    Sorry…ah forgoat.

  2. There is little money to be had from Europa league qualifiers… If any!?

So I doubt much for them beyond a humping of two off Crusaders or Maribor or whoever..

The real killer would be if the SFA or even UEFA themselves showed a bit of FFP clout and integrity… and pulled the European rug out from under Sevco FC.

We all know they shouldn’t even be in a pot when the don’t have one of their own to do the proverbial.

Why Hearts fans ( if not their board) aren’t kicking off severely about the situation is another matter that baffles me.

  3. Phil – I’ve been thinking… in the event that the Takeover Panel get no satisfaction from Bwana King, how likely is it that they will go after the others? If they go chasing (as an example) Douglas Park, could they cause trading problems for Parks’ business interests? If that was to be the case, what is the likelihood of Celtic contracting out their team bus requirements to another company? Could an entirely separate insolvency event happen as a result of Dave King’s (in)actions, to the other board members?

  4. Hi Phil. We all know you called this right first time around through the Downfall years. However there is talk of new US money into Ibrox now which will cover more than was available last year to the Magic Hat, albeit that was squandered. Alves is no mug and neither is Jack so that lifts the squad right away – we just need to be careful we don’t call out too early here as it may be 2nd place is very much attainable for the Peepil next year, especially if Aberdeen further weakened by losing McGinn, Hayes and McInnes (he’d be daft to go to Sunderland without significant public assurances of funds – something that didnt happen for Moyes et al).
Just saying, that’s all – surely they aren’t speculating to accumulate again but from an even weaker position? Any hard evidence, Phil?

    Thanks.
    Pep.

      • I do not think Aberdeen have been weakened i have a feeling they know exactly what they are doing they are a shrewd bunch the Dons, and you did call it right in downfall ths is not Rangers we are witnessing this is the SFA challenge we are about to watch fall off a cliff.
Our charges will be loaded and ready when called upon this could be an interesting season for us and the pantomine should be good also.

    • So maybe second place is possible if they see out the season – but how many points behind the leaders. If it’s over twenty, then that’s as good as third.

How many times have we heard that big money investment is coming in from USA / Austria / Saudi / Hong Kong / Yada Yada Yada – even South Africa.

There’s no investment coming in because there is no viable business to invest in – RIFC plc accounts show a litany of stupidity and failure – like a Govan light house they send out warnings of dangerous rocks and treacherous currents.

  5. Phil, ST money is Sevco’s only real source of income, once it’s gone it’s gone. They will run out of cash around the end of the summer assuming they don’t get hit with a Court exocet al la BMA, before then or the Takeover Panel deliver a knockout blow to Glib. They will be in a far worse situation come November/December, more than recent years as they are gambling all on Euro success. Not even Aberdeen have made a success out of Europa qualifiers and Sevco have 3 plus a ‘play-off’ I believe, making 4 before they get to the groups. My guess is Glib is signing off as a good guy who splashed the cash, the gullibillies are taking it in as usual, and he will retreat to the Limpopo, blaming the other muppets on the Board for crashing the new bus.

P.S. any word on you ghost writing Craigy’s book, your skills in bringing his taped convos and e-mails out from the word mines would be explosive…. lol

  7. You’ve previously suggested that the assets belonging to the people (no pun intended) writing the cheques will be affected.

Should an insolvency event occur, would this not be the case anyway?
If so, why throw good money after bad?
