Bruno Alves

The signing of Bruno Alves will undoubtedly give a boost to Sevco season ticket sales.

In that sense, he is playing the same role as Joey Barton did this time last year.

If you recall The People were crowing that others were  “Jealous about Joey”.

Oh dear.

The other similarity with the French-speaking midfielder is the remuneration package.

The Portuguese defender will now almost certainly be Sevco’s highest paid player by some measure.

I understand that the 35-year-old will be on a 52-week contract unlike several of his new teammates.

Moreover, he will receive a signing on fee paid up front.

Sevco is really pushing the boat out on this one.

Of course, Cagliari almost certainly insisted upon the €600k transfer fee up front.

What this means is that Mr David Cunnigham King has told Poor Pedro to go and get the players he wants.

This, effectively puts it up to the members of the Sevco High Command who are actually keeping the lights on.

I’m told that two of the Blue Room chaps were particularly exercised today at the long-term cash flow implications of signing Senhor Alves.

The South African based entrepreneur is, in a sense, playing a game of chicken with his boardroom colleagues.

It will come down to who jumps out of the way of the bus first.

A cynic could decide that the signing of Alves is a naked attempt to sell season tickets to the People.

I understand that the linking of Nani with Sevco late last night came from a very high-Level.

Of course, do not expect any of the stenographers to look too closely into this deal or any other moves into the transfer market by Poor Pedro.

This is all about creating a feelgood vibe for The People.

After all, the “co-investors” have to keep stumping up.

It wouldn’t do if anyone were to ask about what players will have to be shipped out so that there isn’t a cashflow crisis at the turn of the year.

For the avoidance of doubt, those are the type of awkward questions that journalists are supposed to ask.

  1. I’m looking forward to the day Alves and his other prospective Latino teammates score a goal and bless themselves in front of the loyal and dignified.

    • Their problem isn’t really sectarianism. I guess they would love a Brazilian even if he were a Catholic. Their problem is racism: they hate anyone with an Irish background unless he’s a unionist protestant.

  2. How do all these good catholics they are bringing in feel about the fans wanting to wade up to their knees in their blood ?

Have they allocated any of the season ticket money to build a chapel in Ibrox yet ?

    • Now why didn’t I think of that…..a chapel built in the modernist / brutalist style like Cardross Seminary a grade one listed masterpiece…… the college stands a vandalised wreck….. awaiting a billionaire Catholic numpty to rebuild it and once more the strains of Kumbah Yah or You’ll never walk alone will ring out over the poor dumb Scottish Catholics who don’t know their apse from their elbows….

Go on build a “chapel” in Ibrox….chapel building has wrecked the Catholic church in Scotland……it Will be like sowing salt in the Albion car park….only more so….

  5. It never fails me to notice how deluded the sevconions are at absorbing any feel good factor pish coming from Ibrokes or the SMM.
Next we have a wonder pensioner who is a toughie who is going to sort the Celtic players out next season.

  6. So glad they’ve signed Alves. He is a name…. but from the past.
They believe this is the start of “going for 55” eh again.
Sure some more season tickets will be sold and the desperation in their belief will be back with a vengance.
Well for us we get to watch the car crash all over again.
Poor Pedro, poor Bruno and poor Sevco not a clue between them as to how bad their future is.
Luckily for them they have the SMSM to make everything look nice and rosey.
I shouldn’t even care but it’s just as funny as f… that it’s happening all over again.
I was so glad when Rangers died but now i must be honest, i quite like Sevco being around just to watch them suffer.
    Hail hail.

  7. I wonder why their marquee signing wasn’t paraded in their new 2018 top, most teams do this to promote sales, hmmmm
    Nothing nefarious I presume

  8. Based on the situation you have outlined, how long can they sit by and leave GASL in place?

This is financial suicide and King wont be one reaching in his pockets.

Surely someone with some sense left will call for his removal via an emergency AGM. If they don’t, they will be ones who have to fork over funds every month to meet wages.

  9. I understand last night 40,000 nani’s were linked to Sevco. Would this be the same 40,000 nani’s who have always been linked to Sevco

  10. Phil. Where are these peepul getting the money from? You’re absolutely spot on regarding the lack of close scrutiny by any of our allegedly award winning journalists. The feel good factor must return and STBs sold. King certainly has his board by the “Haw Maws”.. How,and why they got in concert with the felon who can crawl under a snake’s belly wearing a lumb hat shows a lack of nous. They deserve no sympathy whatsoever. Maybe they were “duped ”

As they used to say in my village,” If it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd, then it’s a turd.”
