Big week in Sevcoland

I’m told that Mr David Cunningham King will be in the United Kingdom tomorrow.

At their last meeting, the rebel faction of the Sevco High Command planned that he might turn up early in Glasgow.

However, it looks as if he will arrive in Glasgow on Wednesday as advertised and not a day early, i.e. tomorrow.

They expect their esteemed chairman to overnight in London to recover from the gruelling flight.

During their recent Quintessentially British conclave, the rebel faction on the High Command agreed that the Johannesburg-based chairman would seek financial assistance from them for the share offer.

One director, in particular, is expected to be the focus of Mr King’s request for the necessary monies.

I suspect that the South African-based entrepreneurs will be disappointed on that count.

However, he might be able to bring some Churchillian gravitas to Bear on proceedings, and that might change a few minds.

One piece of scéal that I have been trying to corroborate is the precise cost of putting the share offer together.

An impeccable Square Mile source assured me that a transaction of that scale would cost, including a prospectus and fees, around £1.5m.

However, I’m told from within the Sevco High Command that the actual cost is considerably higher.

In fact, I have a source who is will to stand behind the sum of £2.2m.

I was puzzled by his certitude, and he explained to me that this was due to a higher premium being charged because of the identity of the prospective buyer.

My source then stated to me that this increased fee was because of the business history of Mr King and his…err.. “favourable settlement” in South Africa.

Well, colour me outraged!

I find this particularly unpleasant given the glowing character reference that Mr King received from Judge Brian Southwood and two assessors in the North Gauteng High Court in October 2010.

I’m sure you have read it, dear reader.

Moreover, I’m sure Mr King will have no difficulty in cooperating in the future with those nice people at the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

I’m told that they are interested to know just how he was able to spend so much money purchasing shares in a newly created football club.

Website news

You should notice that this place looks rather different now.

That is because it is an entirely new site, built from scratch with a searchable archive on another part of the websphere thingy.

The plan is that the site will now load faster and be much easier to navigate.

As ever with these makeovers, there will be glitches.

If you spot anything, please let me know, and I will pass it on.

My web guy has worked tirelessly on this for weeks.

  1. Is it just me or is the homepage not optimised for mobile. Text doesn’t fit on one page, have to scollect left to see it. Otherwise great. Keep up the good work Phil!

  2. Hi Phil,

One consequence of the new site is that I wasn’t emailed a notification of the new posts. No big deal, as I drop by regularly for a chuckle at the latest shenanigans, but I did like receiving the alerts.

The new site looks good – very easy on the eye.

    Keep up the good work.

  3. am I the only one who is still getting the comments posted from the newest down? It is the same over multiple platforms, so not just a device issue…
    Good content though!

  4. Great new site, comments date stamped and flow is the proper way for any sane individual. Read the oldest comments first as you flow down the page. Works great on ipad

  5. Long time lurker reading your blog Phil, thanks for all the info over the years.

New site is good. I much prefer to read the comments from oldest top to newest bottom, like reading a book you read from top to bottom in chronological order.

  6. If you click on “Blog” at the top of the page it gives you the same list of posts as the home page, but shows number of comments and when you click on comments goes straight to comments as per the old site.

I know what people mean about new comments at the top, but when you’re reading it now at least the comments are in the order in which you read them so when someone has a reaction to an earlier post, but hasn’t replied directly to it, at least you know what the poster is talking about. It really isn’t that hard to flick scroll down.

The HTML tags bit looks geeky and I can’t see many people using it. hide it behind a link “For HTML tags click HERE”

content is King though (no irony) – keep it up. If King gets out of this mess than

  7. Best of luck with the new site and keep up the great work. I can only imagine what else they would try and get away with without yourself and others reporting on their skullduggery!!!

  8. Thanks for sorting the comments to run naturally from top to bottom. Most readers prefer this option. Great looking site ad loads much faster than the old one. Kudos.

    Look forward to King’s misfortunes … 🙂

  9. The ordering of comments seems strange, not by date descending as before
….. maybe random….., when phil comments article rises as well – so latest comment ????

Like to read newest at top please and work back in history… otherwise need to scroll lots.

  10. I like the new site. Very legible, loads fast on Android devices. And I know I’m going against the tide but prefer the the present order of comments. The content, as always, is riveting.

  11. Hi Phil; same issues on the new site as has been posted. Descending order of posts is a bit offputting, as is the fact you can’t see at a glance of new posts. The layout and font is really good as of course is the content; always on the spot. My main issue as I post; the site blinks every few seconds, perhaps it’s updating constantly but is a strain on the eyes. It never happened like that before so hopefully it can be rectified; of course might be just the mobile phones I use but don’t think so. Keep up the brilliant work you do for the sake of openness, honesty and integrity; much could be learned from these so called journalist in our sad and bigoted little country.

  12. I like the changes, personally.

The comment counter is a valuable tool, however.

I look forward to the minutes of the next meeting.

  13. MUCH BETTER that comments load oldest to newest, particularly for smartphones. I often found myself reading replies to comments before the actual comments in the old format.

  14. Site looks OK to me, seems a bit more streamlined, though slightly plainer. Not necessarily a bad thing. Easy to read.

It’s fixed one tiny thing which I always felt was missing. A date of publication at the top of the article. So many get mentioned again and the story can circle quite a bit over the years. So that marker in time at the start of an article adds value. Thanks.

Content, good as usual. Thanks again.

  15. King does not have $14,000,000 to put in an escrow account and another $2,200,000 merely to list the shares . He certainly cannot get it out of SA. Look for Kings departure. Look for the Cold Shoulder Look for the Metr0Bank closing their account. No credit card facilities for season tickets. Look for the Supreme Court and the subsequent asset stripping. The EUFA FPP ruling ineligibility for Europe. Or rave about beating the lowest team in the league. This month is monumental.

  16. The fact that comments load in “reverse order” is very off putting. It’s the same on jJohn James Site. Makes it a nuisance if it’s a long thread.

  17. As an editor of, dear God, 40 years’ standing I’d like to say that legibility > ‘drabness’, ‘pedestrian font’ (he means typeface by the way) etc., and your site is very legible and … dignified. Resist all demands for gold text on emerald green ground, all in comic sans!

Oh, and content >>> all. You score again.

And newest at the bottom is better than the opposite.

  18. just some site feedback

    1) the homepage shouldn’t have a title that just says “home page”

    2) a comment count for each post on the homepage would let one know if new stuff had been added

    3) would prefer that comments were listed as latest first

    4) as a former graphic designer I find the overall theme a little drab, and the fonts rather pedestrian

All that said the content remains compelling reading…

  19. The site is upside down. Comments on the old site were chronologically last on top, first on bottom. This new one is the opposite. Now we will have to scroll down looking for where we left off. Same as the John James site which can be annoying on long threads. As for speed in opening, I see no difference and I am 6500 miles away from Ibrox.
However, the site and how it is laid out is unimportant. It’s the content which is and I’m sure you’ll be in full flow again soon

  20. Comments are loading latest at bottom instead of latest at top.

Is King still fit and proper with the SFA?

What part of cleaning up our game were they thinking of when they let him in. Whoever approved him should be sacked.

No revenue during international break. Wages due also.

I’m guessing this week will see King go away with no support to fund his share offer. Perhaps Level 5 will provide loans?

  21. I like the look of the new site. Easier to navigate? Not so sure. Yes, it definitely loaded more quickly, so a big plus. Your stream of consciousness was cut off in mid flow, though! As you say, early days, so glitches to be expected. Easily forgiven since the content is so good. Thanks for your hard work in keeping us so well informed. I missed you those few days last week when you were busy with your other writing!

  23. Good luck with the new site Phil.

I have made a donation, to match the one I made to John James, who runs another website, as you may know.
