The silent capitulation

At this juncture, the January transfer window 2026 should be ruled a cruel and unusual punishment for Celtic supporters.

Martin O’Neill has made his requirements very clear to those at the club.

He wants three first-team starters to strengthen the team’s spine.

So far, zip.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the people who appointed Doctor Tisdale and Monsieur Nancy are still in place.

That includes, of course, Celtic’s elusive CEO.

Where is he?

Does he only come out at night?

Is he at an undisclosed location?

Perhaps he has been placed in a Witless Protection Programme!

The legal beagle is a case in point of being promoted beyond his own competence.

Regardless of the inventive conspiracy theories that have emerged on message boards apropos this bin fire, my first take is never to remove incompetence from the table.

The awful truth is that several key people at Celtic just aren’t very good at their well-paid jobs.

Moreover, that is ultimately the fault of the de facto owner.

Over the last week, I’ve been able to reach out to a couple of folks who could be described as junior management at Celtic.

Both of them, without prompting, said that the structure above them was currently characterised by “paralysis”.

I suspect that no one in the building dares to take bad news to King Dermot.

Meanwhile, the nativist brands at Ibrox and Tynecastle are forging ahead.

The American owners of Sevco know that winning the league opens the door to the riches of the Champions League.

Consequently, some investment in this window will help coach Danny Röhl win the title without the aid of a pandemic.

It’s the smart move.

At the John Wilson Arena, Sevco’s low-calorie cousins are potentially poised to have their Leicester City moment.

Dear reader, none of this would have been possible without Incompetence FC doing their bit.

  1. I watched the Falkirk last night. Mediocrity could not describe what Celtic had to offer. Some of our players seemed totally disinterested in what their task was, to win and take the three points. If they don’t want to put the effort in, then they should sod off. It’s clear that the malaise and mismanagement of the Board has had a detrimental effect on our players on the field. Maybe they are the ones who should sod off as well. Congratulations to Falkirk and their manager, who virtually played us off the field at times.

  2. If Desmond isn’t already aware of the calamity unfolding, then somebody should check him for a pulse. Similarly if the incompetents are too scared to contact him, it’s because they know he’s well aware.
We had a good laugh when the 49ers made a mess of it initially but any astute business people watching how we’ve been operating for the past 6 years, would know our operation is a shambles. We got lucky with Rodgers- both times, and with Ange it’s the only year since 2016/17 that we spent good money & operated professionally. Poor Dom paid with his job and the bad smell that is PL was bk as chairman, trebling his salary within 12 months.

    • I’m certain DD is aware of the shambolic state of the football operation. The problem for us is, Phil’s phrase “it’s all about the dollars” does not apply only to the basket of assets.

  3. Yes. Never rule out incompetence when it comes to the current cabal at Celtic. The people responsible for the hiring of Nancy and Tisdale should have followed them out the door. What a shambles.

Like a few other fans, I am seriously staring to think that the club doesn’t actually have over £70 million in the bank at all 🤣🤣🤣

  4. i can understand why they Will not purchase new players as we have a temporary manager in place & whose to say that the new manager would want such players , but we are crying out for a striker or 2 + a centre back , so would it not be worth going down the loan route , at least give us a few loans to help the team try to win this league

    • As you say yourself the current squad is “crying out” for new players. The current squad consists largely of very average journeyman players, some key players who have gone stale and no longer have the previous high levels of motivation and others who are simply crap. We saw the perfect storm when you accompany that with an incompetent manager. It’s testament to MON that Celtic have gotten results in his recent tenure but we can only go to that well so many times in terms of grinding out results through poor but battling performances. Are you saying we just give up on the title this season, potentially handing the Dark Side a pass straight into the Champions League group stages? The odd loan signing can be useful but the track record is poor. Loan players are often not particularly motivated as they know they’re not here beyond the end of the season.
