Is Sevco simply spinning a web of defeat?

Since the hilarious defeat to the Spiders, it has been entertaining to see the Sevco spin machine getting all tangled up.

Firstly, some background.

Last October, this piece from your humble correspondent laid out the basic details of dear Philippe’s severance package.

Last night, Hugh Keevins on Clyde was forensically accurate when he stated the weekly wage for Sevco’s glabrous gaffer.

Which makes his annual salary at £2.6m.

I’ve met Hugh a few times when covering games, and he’s obviously a decent sort and instantly likeable

Moreover, he wouldn’t have invented any old figure on the live radio.

For the avoidance of doubt, the £50k per week ties in with my own sources.

Sadly, it appeared to be all too much for that nice Jonny McFarlane on Sevco Review today.

He just refused to believe that the Belgian Beale was taking so much out of the basket of assets.

As I watch them, I imagine that I’m looking at an Alan Patridge tag team.

Quality entertainment!

Young Jonny also thought £1.2m was a bit of a snip to be shot of Philippe.

With that in mind, I cannot concur with the chap from the Soaraway Sun.

If it only costs £1.2m to sack Clement, it presents two uncomfortable scenarios to the Ibrox klanbase.

  • The Sevco High command CAN afford to fire him but refuses to do so.
  • They want to fire him but can’t scrape together a relatively small sum for a club with over 40,000 season ticket holders in the latter stages of the Europa League.

The featured image states that the unpalatable reality for The People is that Philippe Clement has a contract until 2028.

Meanwhile, across the city, the contrast is stark.

The richest club in Scotland just published their interim accounts.

Tomorrow night, the Champions League anthem will ignite the capacity crowd of 60,411 to produce an unrivalled atmosphere in European football.

The visitors from Bavaria are, in effect, playing the Bayern Munich of Scotland.

No amount of succulent spin from the Stenography Corps can sustain the fictitious narrative that two equals are battling it out in Glasgow.

Celtic, a club formed by immigrants, have triumphed and their neighbours are a sorry sight, harking back to an imagined past of British greatness that was built on imperialist plunder.

One other thing, as I finish the piece, is that Philippe is still Sevco’s manager and worth every penny!

  1. Fergus had a plan , the fans backed him and most importantly had patience til things turned around . At Ibrox …………..it’s getting to the point they can’t afford to sack him and can’t afford not to . Those ST renewal figures will speak loudly

  2. As long as they keep performing in Europe. Keep getting the coefficient points.

Obviously up to a point. Semi final is far enough! My heart couldn’t cope with a rerun of the last final they got to. Preferably a close run semi, where, in their skeely eyes they’ve been robbed!! It’s the hope that kills them!

As they say in ALL the best circles, get it right fuckin up them!!

  3. The BBC gossip column is quoting the 1.2 million figure as well. Seems that their journalists (ahem) don’t have a calculator or a basic knowledge of mathematics between them.

  4. £1.2m must be the absolute minimum it will cost them. If he goes, presumably some the coaching staff will have to go as well. Then there’s the appointment of a new manager, who would be asking for a comparable salary, bring in his sidekicks with him and then demand access to a substantial transfer “war chest”, so he can build a trophy-winning squad?

  5. At the foot of the featured image appears to be some sort of trademark or device for brand Belgian Beale. Wow, how big is his stock that he has basically put himself in the same bracket as CR7, DVB, Messi etc…. Mike Ashley wouldn’t even stock that brand in the same place as Lonsdale or Slazenger.

  6. How can the gullibillies at Rangers Review believe that it will only cost £1.2m in compensation, if that isn’t even his salary for a year?
They can’t be that naive surely?

  7. Big Clouseau is well worth every last Belgian franc for the entertainment value he provides…. although it’s us he is entertaining, not the Sevco enthusiasts, whose perma-rage he is employed to placate!
