The three sides of Ibrox and VAR lines of inquiry

Regular readers should not be surprised by this announcement.

Here is my piece from last month, which explored the possibility of a return to Ibrox with the Copland Stand out of bounds to Sevco’s delightful customers

I posited the question on the basis that a three-sided option would be cheaper than renting Hampden.

As ever with Sevco, we must follow follow the money.

Moreover, the process by which Glasgow City Council permitted spectators to be readmitted to the building site that John Brown played for is also in the public interest.

If any of the invertebrates on the Stenography Corps want to venture into journalism, they might also want to examine this deal.

They might want to get confirmation or denial that the company only gave the Ibrox club a rather modest SIX FIGURE sum.

Meanwhile, spare a thought for Willie Collum.

I think the email he received from Celtic yesterday morning could involve him having to do some explaining.

The Stenography Corps often deploys a lazy trope that the Parkhead club only raises the issue of officials after a defeat.

Well, this isn’t the case after the match on Sunday.

The Hoops horsed Sevco, and even this offside decision didn’t prevent the team in Norwegian Blue from being easily beaten by the champions.

However, the decision-making process of the VAR chaps is being called into question in this instance.

Of course, no one expects the new refereeing supremo to have eyes in the back of his head…

  1. So far as I’m concerned, there’s not enough scrutiny placed on the EXACT moment the ball leaves contact with the passers boot, if we’re going enforce the offside rule so stringently then surely it’s just as important to know when the pass was made

  2. If I’m understanding that “offside” picture correctly, it’s some part of his right arm that’s off. I was under the impression that it had to be a part of the body you could score with.

This rule has now gone beyond absurd. It should revert back to the original interpretation of the player’s position. Where his feet are! Where you’re standing, is where you are, whatever position your body is in or whatever way you’re leaning. To say otherwise simply implies that you’re in two different places at the same time. As I previously stated, it’s beyond absurd!

    • If I remember correctly against Motherwell when Jota’s goal was ruled offside…. The Hawkeye system ensured it was offside but the camera malfunctioned according to official explanation.
Suggesting the system was automated yet for some reason we are now relying on lines drawn by a person.
Please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken
If they can’t definitively prove it’s offside our goal in the derby should have stood

  3. There is no need to quibble about possible VAR errors. It was a severe pumping. We know that, they know that, everyone knows that!

  4. On current form, sevco could hire three old red phone boxes for the match against Dundee – and they still wouldn’t have a sell-out crowd. 😂

  5. Phil , what does it cost Sevco, to borrow our national (shithole) stadium on a game basis. I wouldn’t like to think that mates rates applied here. Then again it wouldn’t surprise us.

  6. I believe that teams in the league phase of European competitions had to nominate their ‘home’ ground for the competitions by yesterday. Probably why the ‘going home’ announcement was made

  7. If the ancient Egyptians and Miens built their pyramids using Scottish football’ s VAR ‘ lines ‘ technology Phil ,they would have collapsed in a giant heap of rubble thousands of years ago …..

  8. Off side needs to be revamped. A player should only be offside if there’s clear daylight between him and the defender. In other words the reverse of the current way of working. Total nonsense that a players left pinky should play him offside. What ever happened to the benefit being given to the attacker?

  9. This sounds like a knee jerk reaction by sevco board to try and placate some of their supporters after Sundays result. Not surprised by the timing.

    • The Italian T.V networks had it done to perfection for their club games in UEFA COMPETITION, It seems that the S.F.A influenced V.A.R is no different, but let me say this….. When it was announced the V.A.R was going to be implemented in the Scottish game I WAS ‘EXPECTING’’ these dodgy decisions & am not in the least surprised by numerous baffling decisions in favor of a particular Newco, .as for a return to Ibrokes for the Fugazi Football Club as Phil says…”Follow Follow the money.”

  10. If I understand this correctly the season ticket holders who have paid for seats in the Copland Road stand as part of their season ticket entitlement are now invited to purchase tickets in another part of the ground. Is this correct?

      • Yes, so they can easily fit crowd in 3 stands, as it will be a non-season ticket holder game, probably 2!

        What happens after that?

Obviously, they’ll be hoping work is complete but, if not, they need to decamp back to Hampden or go with 3 stands, which will lead to up to 10,000 season ticket holders being locked out.

Europe may be forcing their hands, as I believe, all games need to be played at the same ground.

The pain of a 3/4 open ground for a few games maybe worth it, if they can have it full for later ones.

Also, it will remind them of when they had stand closures due to their bigotry!
