Everton FC

They clearly do things differently in England.

As per the featured image, I commented on Twitter/X that such a scenario is unthinkable in Scotland.

The proposals drawn up by Tracey Crouch MP have made it into the King’s Speech and are expected to get cross-party support.

The move that saw the Merseyside outfit sanctioned could be seen as the game in England trying to demonstrate that it can regulate itself.

As sport is a devolved matter, the legislation proposed for this parliamentary term will not impact Planet Fitba.

Your humble correspondent has been in touch with a member of the regional assembly in Edinburgh.

I had previously supplied him with the Tracey Crouch proposals before they were drawn up as a bill for Westminster.

It is a relatively simple task to adjust them to go through Holyrood.

This would be an opportunity for the legislators in the Scottish capital to salvage their reputation with football fans after the shitshow that was Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

Repealed in April 2018 after a grassroots movement by supporters of many clubs, it was a case study of how rushed legislation often fails.

For example, the problem with the regular festival of anti-Irish racism at Ibrox is one of enforcement, not of a lack of legal powers.

I can’t think why…

The folks at Everton are understandably irked by the decision.

However, as long as they get due process and the rules are applied across the board, they can have no complaints.

Of course, the idea of such a  level playing field apropos governance is utterly alien in Fair Caledonia.

  1. If fair Caledonia can’t apply such rules, esp in light of rangers FC dying and the threat of social unrest if a team supported by Catholic hating bigots didn’t get to play fitba in Scotland then what’s the point of the Scottish parliament?

    • I believe the politicians becoming involved in a matter such as this is a distance, …if ever….AWAY, as too many are themselves card carrying bigots of the mordor club, but also because it would be political suicide for them.
The point you make about s team supported by Catholic hating bigots not being allowed to PLAY FOOTBALL, is a touch off the mark.
The ideology of a form of rangers, as it is now…rangers mark 2, is to allow the zealot knuckledraggers a weekly outing to spout their hatred, this avoiding civil unrest on a daily basis.
The general thinking is herd them in one place together, once or twice a week, and let them spout.their bile, this gets it out their system avoiding that hatred mostly from boiling over at home

  2. This proves what a dishonest corrupt farce Scottish football is, Football authorities, Media, both print and broadcasting and the Celtic Board should hang their heads in shame.
RIP Turnbull Hutton and his Raith Rovers board, the only club in Scotland to come out of this stain on Scottish Football history with their integrity intact.

  3. The first thing I said when I heard about what happened to Everton . How do sevco get away with this ? Then as you said Phil it would never happen here as sevco would be gone forever.

    • With the Scottish government having to splash out £60m in damages to people wrongly accused by Glasgows finest of ripping of Sevco, you would think they would jump of the chance to introduce laws to prevent this situation from happening again.

      • They have it in place, but is the SPFL high enough up the football financial food chain to actually bother them that much? Sorry for the scepticism, but UEFA have never left me impressed by their actions. They have constantly pandered to the “Big Five”, at the cost of everyone else.

        • I think UEFA will be more inclined to go after a club outwith the big five however I think the SFA would fight tooth and nail for them.
We keep hearing about FFP but how much, and for how long, should clubs in an association wait for UEFA to intervene and what would their sanctions be ?
For example The Rangers have lost money since inception, and the reason their losses are relatively low is because of European revenue derived through UEFA competitions.
It’s ironic that the reason they are not failing FFP is due to money gained from UEFA matches.

          • You have totally nailed it!!

Mind you if we’re going to be completely honest here, without the coefficient points sevco have gained for Scotland in the last five years or, there would be no automatic CL place. We’ve done absolutely SFA, (no pun intended), to earn it.
