Follow Follow the money to the Blue Room

As they do every summer, Sevco is charging towards victory in the Close Season Cup.

Regardless of a player’s injury profile or the eagerness of the club to shift him, anyone who is signed is world-class.

That’s how it has to be within Operation Soothe.

Moreover, it’s always a shrewd bit of business as Sevco had beaten off major clubs when they…ahem… swooped.

Get the idea?

The problem for the local media is that things are kind of the wrong way around for them.

They need Celtic to be a shit show and the Ibrox operation to be well-resourced and efficient.

Instead, it is the opposite.

The Parkhead outfit are doing business in this window as they have done over the past two years.

In that sense, little has changed from Postecoglou to Rodgers.

An intelligence-led recruitment strategy has been sourcing young players assessed to have potential and ipso facto value.

So, in a sense, it’s rather boring from a journalistic standpoint.

Is it a story that Celtic paid one of those fees all upfront in total?

Not really.

Then again, the SPFL champions aren’t issuing share confetti to pay bills.

Neither are they on a UEFA  financial watch list.

Meanwhile, across the city, there is a veritable treasure trove of stories.

For example, the nuts and bolts of the deal that’s been put together to land Danilo from Feyenoord would reveal a lot.

Here would be my first questions in a presser:

How many tranches are being paid to Feyenoord?

Is it across the lifetime of the contract?

Is it eight equal payments?

Remember, dear reader, if you ask questions they don’t want to answer, those are usually the only ones worth asking.

The issue for the Sevco High Command and their Transcendental Chairman is how to appear adequately resourced when they’re anything but.

As regular readers will know, the brethren in the Blue Room have been hoping that  Mr Let’s Go will be in touch to splurge Saudi millions on Mr Beale’s Gumtree Galacticos.

So far, that hasn’t happened.

Of course, through it all, the chap in the big chair at Ibrox has remained an oasis of calm while others are close to losing it.

Very impressive.

  1. Oops!!! It looks as though Mickey B lost his copy of the script and fluffed his lines!!
According to the bold Mickey the figures being quoted in the media, for both the purchase and salary of the mighty Danilo, are way above the reality.
Well, well!! WHO would have thunk it??🤨🤔

  2. I don’t think Stevie Gerard will be in any hurry to raise funds by buying players from a guy who tried to make out he (Beale) was the brains behind their operation.

  3. According to a rag, Beale says the money Sevco are paying for and to Danilo is “nowhere near” what’s being reported. Sounds strangely familiar to an old Ibrox wheeze …

  4. Why any player allegedly worth £5 million would even entertain the club playing out of Ibrox is strange .
Surely his agent and his current club will have done due diligence on all aspects of his proposed transfer ,and looked into the financial status of the club .
    And ran mile

  5. Danilo to Sevco for £5m fee, and signing a 5 year contract on £39,000/week. That’s MORE than £10m in wages over the 5 years. This is what the Scottish tabloids would have us believe.

All those figures will, obviously, be greatly exaggerated to fool the gullibillies into believing that they’ve got money.

We’ve been hearing tiresome shite like this every summer since the tribute act was formed. The same crap every year, then the accounts come out and expose the lies. The Huns are apoplectic……….. for about two days, because after that they’ve forgotten what the fuck they were apoplectic about, and return to their default setting of just being outraged!

The new season starts and the whole fuckin charade is repeated, aided and abetted by the Scottish media, with the usual sporadic outbreaks of violence thrown in, over some imaginary insult inflicted on the poor dears. The pricks never, EVER, learn!!

  6. Since the advent of well-informed internet bam pots shining a light into all things planet fitba’, I never read the SMSM. The only time I come across their coverage is in those self-same blogs and vlogs. There are thousands like me who depend on these brave souls donning their survival suits, stepping into the toxic pits and analysing their polluted pish. Thanks to you, Phil, and to them all for keeping us up to date on their nefarious output.

  7. Danilo last season.

34 League (L) appearances. 10 goals. A total of 38 Domestic competition (D) appearances. 12 goals in total.

Compare and contrast with one Kyogo.

    36 L, 27 goals. A total of 44 D, 34 goals.

The numbers, (I think they were once called stats), say ALL that has to be said on the matter.

  8. Assuming sevco actually get the Danilo signing done,

[and aren’t gazumped at the ‘twelfth hour’ by another club,

which would be a wee shame 🙂 ],

Danilo might get seriously pissed off at his very first training session,

…when he quickly realises that he is – obviously – the only decent player

    in the Ibrox squad !
