Trouble in the Engine Room Subsidiary

My old buddy, the late Paul McConville, once reminded me that the death of Rangers and the creation of the new Ibrox club would probably generate a decade of criminal proceedings and civil litigation.

So it has proved to be.

In that vein, this piece in the Herald is worth your time.

Especially as it comes from the journalist who coined the hilarious concept that is contained in the title of this piece.

It would appear that the chap who is apparently interested in UFOs is still trying to process the deadly finality of liquidation.

This is strange, given that his own newspaper printed the truth on the front page in June 2012.

Now, if I was subbing his copy, the following would be the pull quote for maximum comedic value.

But there was outrage when it emerged Mr Whyte’s takeover was supported with the mortgaging of future season ticket sales and the club’s 2012 Sevco buyout from administration led by Mr Green.

Once more:

“…the club’s 2012 Sevco buyout from administration…”

Dear reader, that’s delicious.

Football finance expert David Low was quick to point out the hilarious inaccuracy in the piece.

For the avoidance of doubt, there is no need for the events around Ibrox in 2012 to be an X-File.

The truth is out there.

If Mr Williams doubts me, then he can produce the documentary evidence that Rangers (Est 1872) safely exited from the administration process.

Let me be of assistance, no such evidence exists.

Indeed, his own newspaper knows that the original Ibrox club died in 2012 and printed the truth.

Everything else is denial.

On a personal note, I wish Mr Ahmad well in his case.

  1. Am i correct in saying that the 5 Stars are no longer on strips etc; ??.. .If so …why not…??…Is it because they are now OFFICIALLY liquidated…??…Why is no one pursuing this….??…Strange one indeed.

  2. This is a rather naive but genuine question and hopefully if there is a legal expert who can answer it. When all is said and done is this not business fraud to pass yourself off as a completely different legal entity and have people investing in you due to that pretence?

  3. Liquidated, plain and simple. They can try to deny it much as they like, but deep down they know exactly what happened. The stupidity of previous boards, as well as the current encumbents, has resulted in Celtic domination off the scale. Glorious ☘🇮🇪

  4. The was a similar factual error in a BBC article recently when the Man City finance story broke. The bastion of impartiality suggested RFC were punished for the EBT scheme with relegation to the third tier. This was also corrected.

  5. There’s a link on that article to an earlier piece about the sale of the former RFC assets including branding. Pause for a minute and consider how the media would have handled the situation had Celtic FC decided to purchase the Ibrox teams’ branding. After all, individual or company with suitable funds could in theory have bought the branding and associated intellectual property and then done with it as they saw fit. This in itself demonstrates the clear and unquestionable truth that Rangers FC 2012 was liquidated and died as a club AND company.

    • There’s much stronger proof of that.

      1) When Rangers FC went bust, the club’s players no longer had contracts. They were able to walk away and sign for other clubs without Rangers FC (in liquidation) or Sevco collecting transfer fees.
      2) Rangers FC (in liquidation) qualified for the Europa League in season 2012/3. It didn’t take part (obviously). If Sevco was “the same club”, it would have been in that competition. It didn’t.
      3) Rangers FC (in liquidation) voted on Sevco’s applications for SPL and SFL memberships. Neither of these things would have been possible or necessary if Sevco and Rangers FC (in liquidation) were “the same club”.

  8. Looks like you’ve persuaded them to edit the original – no mention of buyout “from administration” in the article now 👏
