Todd Cantwell

Well, it is always a coup for any club to snag a world-class player like young Master Cantwell for the equivalent of a petty cash voucher.

No doubt, Mr Beale will be delighted that the brethren in the Blue Room could gather the funds to get the deal over the line.

Let’s speculate that “undisclosed” means something in the region of £125k.

Indeed, in another part of the fitba multiverse, fearless Scottish sports journalists will have already ascertained that this relatively modest fee is also being paid over the next FOUR transfer windows.

Remember that infernal combination of cash flow plus UEFA?

Now, if we follow follow the money, it almost certainly means someone will have to drop off the wage bill to accommodate this exciting acquisition.

Sevco’s newest player will undoubtedly now be on a higher salary than the one he was at the Canaries.

Footie experts will have already noticed that the ex-Norwich City Galactico plays in the same position as Arfield, Hagi, Lawrence and Tillman.

No doubt Mr Beale has a cunning plan.

Meanwhile, someone at the Daily Radar really needs to raise their subbing game.

This is from the man who has previous for imagining billionaires at Ibrox:

“Half the Far East with him”.

Really?

  1. His grandfather was Noel Cantwell from Cork who played for West Ham and Man. Utd also an Irish internationalist. You won’t read that in the record!

  2. Hi Phil.

    have you seen this

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64383217

Chelsea contracts to lead to Financial Fair Play rules change by Uefa.

How long was Mr CantWell’s contract did you say ?

This bloke doesn’t look like the sort that will do well in the SPL but time will tell.

Maybe he’ll bulk up very quickly like some of the other’s who have turned up at Sevco,

  3. As a Norwich City supporter and a previous fan of Cantwel I hope he makes it ,but if things don’t go well it will be more dummies thrown out the pram .

  4. Cantwell is 24 and at that age – unless he is a very late developer – the odds are against him making an impact at sevco.
However, ‘maybe’ Beale could coach Cantwell to fulfil his early potential… but the youngster just won’t get the time.
The flip side of sevco PR and the SMSM talking up Cantwell – to hide the Ibrox financial embarrasment – is that the bears will be expecting this player to literally hit the ground running.
The expectations of Cantwell are probably already unrealistic, and the bears will probably be on his back if his first games are not impressive.
And, it won’t reflect well on Beale if this talked-up youngster fails to impress – immediately.

  5. I know a little about Todd Cantwell as I worked in Norwich for a few years. He’s a local lad and he showed great promise when he first made the Norwich City first team but then his form fell off a cliff. He was loaned out successively to Bournemouth and a lower league German club where he failed to make an impact. He was shipped back to his parent club who now seem happy to get rid of him. A shame really because he looked a real prospect in his younger days. Maybe Beale can get a tune out of him but I very much doubt it.

  6. Norwich season ticket holder and they can have cantwell. He could not get into the team of 3 different managers. Was loaned out to Bournemouth who sent him back on promotion. Skillfull, lazy, likes to drop to the floor, no defence. Despite being a local lad and one of their own the Norwich fans didn’t like him or rate him. One good season playing alongside buendia (?). He will free up wages for a better player at Norwich. Be interesting to see how he deals with the more physical side of the Scottish game, but could win a few pens with favourable refs and var. Maybe he sees this as his maddison move, to build a reputation and get a big move.

  7. In a sports desk environment where suggesting Hoopy Hound would be an acceptable managerial appointment to the Celtic fanbase on account of him being quote/unquote ‘a bead rattler’ actually made print, I think you’re crediting them with more awareness than they’re worthy of if you think they’d recognise that statement for being racist and/or xenophobic. Their titles will be consigned to the dustbin on history long before that sort of epiphany occurs.
