Pretending that Sevco are in the transfer market

As of yesterday, the first part of this was an accurate report.

For the avoidance of doubt, “monitoring the striker” is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I’m told that Gue-Sung Cho has been on Celtic’s radar for quite some time.

However, his fine showing in the World Cup added at least £1.75m to the asking price, which may go up further.

I would not be surprised if one, possibly two players arrive at Celtic during this window.

Like a year ago, the new acquisitions will be chosen by the manager.

These are heady days at Celtic for recruitment.

Hopefully, the shitshow of Lawwellball brinkmanship is a thing of the past.

This is also, as of yesterday, accurate.

It is fair to say that the lack of transfer activity emanating from the Blue Room has somewhat perplexed the Ibrox klanbase.

This sort of spin will only go so far.

We are planning for the future and all that stuff.

Of course, this puts the local media in a bit of a spot.

Their primary role, as they see it, is to provide a continuous supply of feel-good pish for their dignified demographic.

Consequently, if the Sevco High Command isn’t active in the transfer market, they have to pretend.

When I was sent this, I thought it was a clever mock-up.

Sadly it is a real piece.

There was a time when Scotland produced some of the finest journalism anywhere in the Anglosphere.

Those days are gone, dear reader.

I was told yesterday that a senior member of the Sevco High Command quite recently had asked the Director of Fantasy to explain to him the import of the eleven-year-old club being on a UEFA financial watchlist.

The Blue Room chap wanted the explanation to be laid out in straightforward terms.

This is a good move as it means that the person giving the explanation must understand it fully.

The bottom line is that if you forget that UEFA is closely monitoring Sevco, their very visible inactivity in this window is shorn of vital context.

In the meantime, the local media fiddle with their controller thingy.

  1. I see that the 2 recently identified players heading Beale’s recruitment list can’t get regular places with their respective English Championship teams.
Is this really an update on the current squad?

  2. Currently Beale is being lauded by the klan for being unbeaten in 6 games. One of which was a draw with the Champions. In their black hearts they know that they have lost the league even with all the assistance from the Refs and VAR and their excuse will be that it wasn’t Beale’s team. That team needs gutted and there isn’t a player there that would even make the Celtic bench but they can’t go back to Gerrard’s new team every season scenario because they’re on the watchlist.
I’m not Mystic Meg but I think there will be a succession of Premier League trophies finding their way home to Paradise. HH

  3. Prior to Lawwell’s return transfer business was swift and decisive. Is it just coincidence that Cho transfer saga is turning into a drawn out affair since he’s back at the club?

  4. I’d be red faced as a journalist to have put that out to print. Dearie me, their knees will be as damaged as any footballers with all this kneeling in front of the Sevco mob.

  5. Every game during this transfer window is potentially a HUGE banana skin for sevco.
If they lose a game, this lack of transfer activity will get the bears foaming at the mouth. Again.
The league is virtually gone for sevco….
so what would the reaction be if Aberdeen was to punt sevco right out of the LC on Sunday? 🙂

  6. Fantasy Football indeed.

Cantwell could very well be a candidate if he is free and cheap and if they move out a few bodies in the meantime.

Funniest I have read this year is ‘Morelos is stuck in the Transfer Window’, absolutely fantastic.

I don’t see any real bids in for him but the strategy of any suitors may be to leave rangers sweat til nearer the end of the transfer window before there is a mid 6 figure sum on the table. If they accept it’s better than nothing and they can spin that to Patterson levels. If they don’t el Gruffalo goes in his customary strop and may not play any more. Any team he moves to will know he is a couple of month’s of conditioning off being match fit.

Looking forward to seeing Ange’s starting 11 when the transfer window closes. Hopefully some new dynamics replacing players who have left with more quality. HH

  7. There’s been a lot of activity recently from dodgy VAR to fantasy transfers to Beale being the Messiah. Usually when there’s this sort of buzz in the media sphere it means something bad is coming down the pipe. Could this simply be an attempt to soften a poor transfer window or is there something major about to drop?

  8. If someone has managed to pick up a wage from the SMSM while sitting playing video games, more power to him/her, I say.

I do wonder if while playing said game, whether the background noise from the simulated support was dignified or otherwise?
