Questions about Giovanni for the Blue Room chaps

As regular readers will know, a recurring theme here is the failure of the local media in Glasgow to fulfil their Fourth Estate function apropos Ibrox matters.

The departure of Mr Giovanni is no different.

The dignified statement should be a starting point for any journalist working the Ibrox beat.

Here are some of the questions they should be asking:

Has Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s contract been paid off in full as of today?

If not, has he accepted a sum less than the one that is stipulated in his contract?

Will the agreed settlement package be paid in monthly instalments until the end of this season?

Are the backroom team brought in by Giovanni being offered the same terms?

What is the total cost of dispensing with the services of the management team?

Those questions are a reasonable start on the back of the statement today.

The facts on the ground are that the likeable Dutchman has probably been disillusioned with his employers since the summer.

Moreover, it might have been mutual.

Once the new season started, Giovanni didn’t stick to the official narrative.

This was especially observable in his post-match pressers after the two games again Ajax in the Champions League.

He stated it bluntly that the Ibrox club was not flush with cash.

In the realpolitik of the Blue Room, it was necessary to have him gone by the time of the RIFC AGM.

The Sevco High Command are fully aware that Mr David Cunningham King and his Stateside associates are manoeuvring.

Moreover, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a young chap, peace be upon him, re-emerging soon to urge the Ibrox klanbase to trust Dave.

In all probability, Giovanni fully expected to be dismissed shortly after the St Mirren game.

My information is that he left  Fair Caledonia that very night.

Jetted out?

Whoever replaces him will have to cope with the same resource landscape as Mr Gerrard a year ago and Giovanni over the last twelve months.

The Anfield icon was told just before the last RIFC AGM that players would need to be sold in the January window and replaced with loan deals.

Within weeks he was gone.

Then despite the Dutchman delivering unparalleled revenues for the Sevco High Command, they still posted a loss.

That’s the reality for the new Sevco manager.

Across the city, a fully funded rival is just getting started.

Starting to see it now?

  1. Lots of ex Sevco players clamouring for Beale from QPR to take the job but surely any compensation fee required by QPR would scare them off unless of course another soft loan is offered up.Beale will also know there will not be much in the way of money available for a squad overhaul.

  2. Any reputable manager would be wise to give it a wide berth
It’s a toxic club both morally and financially.
No lessons have been learnt since 2012 .
They have an ageing squad too
And a few players out of contract soon and some players who it seems would rather be elsewhere .
On top of that you have Dave King circling causing mischief behind the scenes .
And that can only mean trouble .
Main while Celtic despite poor results on Sydney trip
Saw sponsors make their targets and the club making good money out of the trip too .
And their Poundland neighbours from across the city will no doubt find themselves in court again after pulling out of the tournament despite signing a contract.

    • A good question Charles. I suspect they can’t really afford to pay him off, but can afford yet another legal battle even less. They were probably also hoping to do what we did with Lennon and withold funds for the next guy. They probably decided several weeks ago he wasn’t the guy for them…didn’t toe the party line. Fan anger probably forced their hand pre AGM. The timing is also interesting, I wonder if there was a step wise reduction in the compensation package after he reached day 365 in the job, hence why they sacked him now, rather than say a week ago.

Again, we will never know these things because our media pays Sevco 20k a year to not ask any questions.

    • The sale of Aribo, Bassett and Patterson will have brought in significant funds.
Their replacements have have cost considerably less. It’s no coincidence that the level of performance from the new squad is miles away from that of the squad who reached a European final.
The new manager will have to hit the ground running as his audience will have expectations that may well be beyond the ability of the inherited squad.

  3. Ibrox continues to provide a curious / ridiculous / masochistic side show.
    Leave them to it.

Our team just needs to continue what its been doing, and have another successful season.

  4. The Blue Room chaps obviously playing to the noisy percentage of the klanbase that were calling for Gio’s departure, however we must pity the next unfortunate who takes the reigns as he’s probably going to have the same conditions forced upon him that has made both Stevie G and GVB exit and is likely to be dealing in small transfers (if he’s lucky), free transfers and loan players so if as expected the new manager doesn’t end the rot the klan will almost certainly turn on those trying to look as if they’re in charge next, Dave King must be gleefully pleased at all that’s unfolding.

  5. As has been alluded to on this site plenty, GVB was far too honest a man to be their manager. Sneaky, manipulative, arrogant, liar are things more appropriate for that role. It’s how they operate within their environment. One of Gio’s is best friends is Henke Larsson all the way from their days in Holland, speaks volumes.

  6. One thing I’m certain of is that GVB was delighted to receive his marching orders and left abruptly. His skid marks alongside those of Gerrard are clearly visible down Edmiston Drive.
