A very British contagion

Well, I hope that the Royal Bees are coping with the sad news.

From this vantage point, none of this seems remotely normal or, indeed, healthy.

These must be difficult days for grounded people on Strange Island.

Although the servility pathogen was also extant, there is now a full outbreak of Deference Disease in Britain.

There is an almost complete absence of any counter-narrative in the mainstream media.

Therefore, this piece by Andrew Smith in The Scotsman is worth your time.

Full disclosure I met this chap once; it was in the media centre at the AVIVA stadium in Dublin at an international match.

If I recall accurately, it was undoubtedly over ten years ago as Rangers were still alive.

Remember, dear reader, this outbreak has just occurred, and it is still rampaging through the most vulnerable in the population.

Unfortunate individuals who were reared to worship deference and exult in their own lowly station in life.

At times like this, their cultural immune deficiency leaves them defenceless to the establishment effluent pouring out of their TV screens.

Yes, I mean the Ibrox subculture.

I think that the black tape on the Slazenger T-Shit and the Royal photo from the Metro is far too contrived for a satirical novel.

It is a brilliant composition to get so much Unsurpassed Dignity into one image.

Chapeau!

As I have often remarked here, they consistently authorise all of my harshest assessments of them.

The new person in the top spot of the Saxe Coburg Gotha firm might believe that he has some progressive values.

For example, I recall in the 1990s when the story broke that he had apparently refused to join the Freemasons.

This, it was reported, caused something of a frisson of concern in the Palace at the time.

In refusing to be in the Craft, he was breaking with tradition in the Royal family that probably went all the way back to Jack the Ripper.

As I have stated, passim, it is not the individual but the institution that should be anathema to anyone who accepts Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s observations on what is essential for a healthy society.

Yes, deferential Brits are buzzing at the moment.

Rational folk on Strange Island know that it is the symptom of a debilitating disease.

Of course, that which is cultural is not amenable to reason.

The funeral on 19th Inst will be a superspreader event for Deference Disease.

Sensible Brits should take all necessary precautions to prevent infection.

  1. I am all for independence for Scotland and Irish unification albeit Im 3rd-4th gen expat living in Canada.
I understand the views of ex colonials exploited by the Brit regimes.
up here though thank god for it-absent that id be an American ,as wd our french speakers in Quebec and elsewhere whilst our Indian population whose situation is bad enough as is wdve b een markedly worse under us rule.
as for the colonial diaspora from Africa ,Asia and the west indies-well their descendants make up a not inconsiderable part of our diverse mix now most notably inmy native city Toronto.
All to the good both for my city and Country and better for them as well.
Fact is though the reason many came to Canada in the late 60s to early 80s is exactly because they were Commonwealth citizens ad could travel freely within its states.
Were this not so well most wdve had to bide at home granted most wdnt have been able to get passports for many reasons none of them good but real enough.
So we have benefitted here and greatly from the existence of the Empire whether others did or didnt its up to them to judge.
Time moves on and we change with it -we are living in a different world today.
The late Queen deserved al the respect she has been accorded exactly for her 70 yrs of service to an ideal she assumed 70yrs ago.
That respect is and shd be personal-it doesnt tie anyone to applauding the politics of the nation she headed as head of state not head of govt.
We send reops to funerals of foreign leaders whoever they are becuause that is the right and decent thing to do.
We will no doubt do the same shd Putin die in harness as Iwd expect Ireland and the Uk among others will.
Tht in no way implies admiration for the policies of the deceaxsed leader.

  2. The reason you have the “loyal” Sevco support for the Royal family is quite simply “the constitution” it has been muted for years that it would be altered or changed “defender of the faith” stating quite clearly that no “Catholics can become monarch.
If you can remembered when they where searching over Europe for a proper “breeder” for big ears they discounted many who had links to Catholics!
I’m sure our “loyal friends might not be so loyal should she have sorted the problem during her reign, it is the reason and only reason! “she chose to ignore it”, I’m sure there would be blood on the streets especially the west of Scotland and the 6 counties should she have done the proper thing instead of alienating a large percentage of her “subjects”! Although might be she/they never recognize that part of the population as “her Subjects” as we never saw her as our Queen’!
It was muted some years ago should Charlie boy manage to live long enough that he would do the proper thing and remove the offending article that feeds our bigoted friends! I wonder how long they would stay loyal if he did!
However as some observers of this pantomime being played out my have noticed it has already been stated that one of his key rolls is “defender of the faith”!
I would be very interest to see the reaction should it be removed!
    “Blood on the streets”!

  3. If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
Although the subject of Goebbels big lie was different, the tactics seem remarkably similar.

  4. It’s insane but not unexpected the reaction from the Sevco fans to her passing… especially given that she never gave a continental f-uck or mourned at standstill for ten days when they died in 2012 !

I think football would have been well down her list of favourite sports with horse racing, water polo, rugby union and cricket above the footy – and if she did take a distant interest it would be some team like Arsenal or perhaps Manchester United (if she was involved officially after the Munich air disaster) – and if she had a soft spot for any club in Scotland I suspect it’d be Aberdeen as that’s the area she seemed to holiday in each year I’m led to believe…

I doubt very much she would have any affection for Rangers then or Sevco now, but imagine if it came out her favourite Scottish team was indeed ABERDEEN !

The Huns would be suicidal for years to come – and to think these ‘people’ think we Hoops go seeking to be loved just because we can and always leave a positive lasting impression in every city we visit… the absolute polar opposite of Rangers then and Sevco now !

Aye – the mind boggles right enough as they say….

  5. Dear Phil, as a Septegenarian follower, admirer and believer in most of your commentaries throughout the years I regret to say, as a non – Monarchist that your recent comments display a sense of displaced bile and anger you rightly accuse the Sevco brethren of being guilty. I do hope you will return to your measured, accurate and incisive reporting asap.
    Kind regards.

  6. What damns the SPL is that the cricket and rugby are still on and the BBC is covering them. So the ten day mourning is only for the “oiks”.

  7. There must an awful lot of folk in Britain suffering from low self-esteem when they feel they have to kow-tow and curtsy to a person who because of the family they were born into are allowed to reign over them. The royal family are no better than anyone else and in many respects are not role models for the rest of us.

It’s hard to believe some of the faux grief out there as ghouls take selfies at the railings of Buck House to mourn someone they didn’t know but want to be seen as sad and grief stricken. Some folk have way too much time on their hands. HH

  8. A great deal of inconsistency with Sevco, and the Scottish football hierarchy. They’ve scrapped all the weekend games here, but desperately want to go ahead several days later with this midweek match at Ibrox. They’re both obsessed with monarchial gloom, and money in equal measure. Their ‘reverence’ towards the weird Windsors should be questioned, if it’s played in Glasgow. They’re total hypocrites.

  9. Lest we forget, indeed… These are the peepal that ripped off her coffers and left her armed forces deficient when they stole the monies owing in taxes, then to add insult they spent it on a frivolous pursuit of happiness which worked for others but not for them… and Lest we forget resulted in the death of a Scottish football club seeing many creditors ripped off.

And today they are the same peepal who with the assistance of their friends and fellow lodge members at Police Scotland stopped a legal and approved march by the fine people from Friends of Ireland ( Cairde na hÉireann).

Police Scotland, created a situation by allowing an illegal group of angry loyalists, intent on violence to stop a peaceful march and remembrance paying tribute to the men and women of the International Brigades who fought against fascism and in defence of democracy in Spain. Hiding behind Section 12 of the Public Order Act they prevented the peaceful march and remembrance by republicans, I will leave it to anyone to work out why…

  10. It fascinates and horrifies me that so many people deliberately and intentionally debase themselves, to grovel at the feet of these parasites. When we have such debasement in our society, is it any wonder that the political class find it so conveniently easy to mug the population with little redress. They get what they deserve obviously, but in doing so they drag the whole population with them. Their eternal mantra of : God save the King / Queen* (attach at your convenience) baffles me. Personally, being an Atheist and a humanist I believe in neither a God, nor a King / Queen and therefore participate in neither phantasy.

  11. Far be it from me to look a gift Bank Holiday in the mouth but with the economy in it’s worst shape since the 70’s, a funeral and a Coronation to pay for they have now decided it’s just the thing we need to give the whole country a day off.

The image heading this blog is cringeworthy. The sevco fan even more so. Stumps bar is one for me to add to the avoid list on my occasional stroll along Dumbarton Rd. I wonder how the poor chaps at The Bristol, The Ballochmile and The Louden are doing out East. To be fair it is the head of their church and there will be similar cringeworthy stuff when a Pope dies. I have no time for any religious leaders. I dislike all organised religions in equal amounts.

  12. Weather permitting, the wife and I plan to go on a picnic on the unexpected Bank Holiday: life goes on as they say!

    As for ‘our’ new King…

This is the role model who has his ex-mistress beside him,
and he has [allegedly] fallen foul of Anti Money Laundering laws by – and admittedly – accepting bags of significant amounts of cash.

Unsurprisingly, the Police have decided not to investigate further – and presumably the bank [Coutts?] did not raise and ‘Suspicious Activity Reports’ at the time of significant cash deposits either.

Whilst I don’t want to be associated in any way with this family, I can’t get away from the blanket coverage in the UK media, and I have been denied access to some of my leisure time activities as I – apparently – should be mourning instead.

    What democracy…? 😦

  13. You have to laugh ,all this nonsense regards Rangers and their fan base love in with all things royalty at the moment .
It’s a pity they were not so Royal pre 2012 when they were ripping of the treasury for millions.
Like everything Sevco this is swept under the extremely large rug along with the other debts .
And even now they allegedly have a large outstanding bill to the treasury .
This of course will also be swept under the rug .
Rangers 2012 and it’s current incarceration are of course part of the same corrupt establishment as the royals are .
    They are well matched
