Postecoglou and Peig

And so it begins.

This weekend Celtic starts the new campaign defending their title.

Champions again.

In fairness, this is how it has been for most of this millennium.

The Parkhead club has a sustainable financial advantage over the Ibrox franchise.

That has already seen one Rangers club die in their wake in this century.

A year ago, Ange inherited a bin fire.

Yet very quickly, he managed to turn things around.

The team that started against Norwich City last Saturday had no new faces in the starting XI.

That suggests that this is the team that he will go with for the opener against the Dons.

The boss obviously thinks that Continuity Celtic can get off to a winning start.

Alexandro Bernabei might be a possibility.

However, Ange might think he needs more time on the training ground.

The vibe coming out of Celtic is one of quiet efficiency on the football side of things.

There are many legacy issues to be dealt with at Celtic, most of which are in the boardroom.

It’s a start, but many more must follow him and be replaced by better.

During the summer break, I stepped back and observed the usual suspects in the Stenography Corp doing their on-the-level best to assist in Operation Soothe.

The sad fact is that there isn’t anything about the Ibrox operation being put out by the mainstream in Scotland that is trustworthy.

They see their role as part of a feel-good PR campaign to reassure the toilet drinking community that everything is okay at the Rainjurrzz.

Dear reader, we must always follow follow the money.

I understand that Mr Gio has been told he can keep 30% of what he brings in from player sales.

At the time of writing, he has two of his leading players entering the last year of their contracts.

Kent and Morelos.

Not ideal at all.

In another part of the Fitba Multiverse, he might even have been allowed to fine Alfredo gordito for the physical state that he had allowed himself to get into.

However, in this dimension, that would not have been a good look.

A bit like Alfie, I suppose.

I have longstanding admiration for the calm straight-talking honesty of the Dutch as a people

At some point, the relaxed and highly intelligent Giovanni will almost certainly clash with spin emanating from Sevco’s in-house PR superhero.

In the meantime, the chaps in the Blue Room believe their ex-chairman is planning a move.

My information is that it will include the fine folk at Club 1872.

The Sevco High Command will have to wait until the move is made.

Consequently, at the moment, they’re bracing for impact.

Although not in the way that William Saxe-Coburg reportedly does.

I couldn’t escape the Twitter storm yesterday when it emerged that he has a previously undeclared affection for an iconic figure in Irish literature.

I’m sure someone mentioned that he was fond of the Peig.

Maith thú!

  1. Whilst it is encouraging that Bankier is retiring – if he had any self awareness he would leave now. Why does he think he needs to give a season’s notice?!

And this raises a slight negative.

Yes, the footballing side of things is a million miles away from the desperate place our club was in last year. So much has changed.

And yet… the Board still consists mostly of the same characters collectively responsible for appointing Lennon permanently, not getting rid of him sooner, being totally incompetent with the Howe ‘appointment’, etc.

There could be a point in the near future when the Board is significantly out of kilter with the footballing operation and its ambitions… again.
