Gallant allies in Europe

Looking back over this season, it reaffirms the insanity of football finances.

Last night the width of a football and its specific trajectory robbed the Sevco High Command of millions in extra revenue.

Obviously, victory over Frankfurt would have netted them the cash for being winners.

Then there was the added bonus of competing in the Super Cup against the Champions of Europe.

However, the real prize was to be dropped into Pot One of the Group Stages next season.

Sevco has spurned three chances this season to bring in that game-changing money.

Firstly defeat to Malmo last August.

The Swedish side’s manager spoke the truth to the assembled hacks.

Then when Celtic effectively extinguished their title defence at Ibrox in April.

Again it was the width of a ball.

And, of course, last night in Seville.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has proven to be a competent manager, and there is no reason that he cannot navigate his charges through the qualifying rounds.

The public data to keep an eye on is what the NET spend there is on the Sevco squad over the summer.

As I had reported last November, the January window would see players sold (Patterson) and only loan players and free agents brought in.

Mr Gerrard was informed of this the week before the RIFC AGM by the Director of fantasy.

The Liverpool icon decided that it was a situation up with which he was not about to put.

Then his replacement let the lead in the league title race be overturned, much to the chagrin of The People

Gio to be sacked

Last night, the only remarkable thing was a lack of serious public disorder from the klan in Seville.

My take was it was a combination of  two factors:

Firstly, the utter despair they felt after the deliciously crushing cruelty of losing on penalties.

Secondly, there was a policing operation waiting in the wings that isn’t generally associated with a democracy.

Basically, the Spanish authorities were very visibly waiting for them.

No one should be in any doubt that this collective wound is a deep one for The People.

A pleasing thought dear reader.

Years from now the rest of Planet Fitba will joyfully reminisce where they were when the Sevconians of Seville choked.

Wunderbar!

  1. The lack of noise from the Sevco end seemed odd until one considers that will happen when tickets are bought by those of the support who can shell out 2000 EUR on a ticket.

  2. You get what you deserve in this world
Since 2012-2022 Sevco have played 10 league cups 9 Scottish cups 6 prem leagues 6 European tournaments (31 major tournaments)
In their 10 year history they have won 1 major honour out of a possible 31:)

    PS
In the same 10 years Celtic have won 23(twenty three) major honours.

  3. Thankfully the beautiful city of Seville was spared the ‘culture’ that makes ibrox such a special place to visit., where only ‘a tiny minority’ of fans revel in songs of hatred and racism. Aye, right yar,
So sevco fans used their brains in this instance due to the very visible police presence, in other words, the cowards shat the bed.
Will we see stories lauding their behaviour? My guess is almost definitely, however, they will not be missed by the residents of Seville after their pre-match punch ups with Frankfurt fans.
They won’t have letters written by local old ladies saying ‘how sad they were to see them leave as they had been great fun, friendly and very well behaved’ stating ‘it was a real pity their team lost’.
I have the letter that was printed in the Celtic View letter sent in by an old lady from Seville who really took to the Celtic fans she encountered in 2003. There’ll be no such letters this time around.
    Cheers Phil🇮🇪
    Feeling CHAMPION myself😂
