Mystery bids and the value of real PR professionals

I was impressed by the way that Sevco got in front of the Kyogo story yesterday.

They quickly changed the narrative from the racism of their klanbase to how the club had acted swiftly and should be commended.

Today I was contacted by a well-placed source who told me that the racist bus run to Dingwall will generate a serious invoice from their outside PR contractors.

Very early on in the crisis, the in house superhero DUPman was told to step away from the keyboard.

Apparently, something of this seriousness was considered to be above his paygrade.

It fell to journalists furth of Fair Caledonia to call this one right.

This piece in the Greek City Times is worth your time.

Here is a key quote:

“Such vile racism is nothing new to Rangers Football Club. In fact, for much of the club’s existence, it has been a hub for the most vile anti-Catholic and anti-Irish Loyalists to the British Crown.”

Sadly, that basic statement of fact is an unmentionable truth in the Scottish media.

Despite the succulent obedience of the local media, things have not been going well at work for the caped drum banger.

For example, I’m told that the story about Everton’s putative bid for young Nathan Patterson was a rather creative fable.

It did, however, lead to a rather techy exchange between Mr G and the Serious Professional.

Only after tempers had cooled did the Anfield icon realise that there had been no approach from the Toffees.

Consequently, it should be filed in the folder regarding mystery bids like this one.

The inconvenient fact remains that Sevco’s Director of Fantasy needs to generate £20m from player sales by the end of this transfer window.

Of course, someone needs to put in an actual bid for one of Mr Gerrard’s charges.

It is undeniable that the Covid pandemic has spread a deflationary pressure throughout football, and only a few elite clubs are exempt from this.

If there are no players out the door in this window, Mr Gerrard will have his title-winning squad intact.

The headache for the Sevco High Command is how to pay for them in the absence of Champions League money.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Stenography Corps are not clever lads, and they do not understand.

Stay well, dear reader; this virus is not a drill.

If you have not already then, please get vaccinated.

  1. The Scottish football media approach to Sevco still bewilders me..

A TIMELINE IN SCOTTISH FOOTBALL JOURNALISM

Invent and print a story about Everton wanting to buy player Patterson.

Compound story by saying a 4/5 million pounds bid has been made..

State that Sevco manager has scoffed at this and sent the Toffees packing and to think on.

Next day Sevco managers states categorically that no contact or offer has been received from Everton or ANY other club regarding Mr Patterson’s availability.

So…. What to the Scottish media do ? Drop the story? Say they made an error? No… none of those.

“Liverpool to do battle with Everton to secure signing of Rangers defender Patterson.”

There’s no hope for honest ‘news’ until all the rags are gone.

  2. If the Ibrox cash emergency is of the magnitude of c.£20M,

and there are no significant player sales,

it will make the Auditor’s opinion on the ’20/’21 RIFC Accounts – as a Going Concern – an even more interesting read this year!

  4. I went to my GP today and requested a flu jab for this winter.
He was however a bit surprised when I stated I would like the jab taken from a vial marked 2019.
Well I said you keep Insisting I get a vaccine for Covid 19 🤷🏻‍♂️

For the avoidance of doubt this virus has mutated numerous times since 2019.

  5. I have been ranting to anybody who would listen about how Ralston was a great player. The problem was the tactics as he consistently romped up the wing and crossed to no-one in the box and it made him look bad.
I believe Ryan Kent is another player who suffers from lack of equally talented teammates, consistently passing the ball into areas more talented players like Kyogo would lap up.
I believe the wrong jersey humiliation and the attack from Mark Hateley is an attempt to force Kent out the door and onto the transfer market. His form has dipped, perhaps deliberately but I, for one, hope he doesn’t line up against Celtic on Sunday.

    • Completely agree with your comments on Ralston. He’s been a seriously underrated player at Parkhead.

He should have been an automatic choice last season in defence that needed some steel.

  6. With no CL money coming in, the Cinch sponsorship money on hold and the Japanese replica shirt revenue stream now dead in the water the Ibrox outfit now need to generate funds from elsewhere and player sales would appear to be the only answer.

    • As I’ve stated repeatedly, ANYTHING, be it a house, a car or a football player, is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. It’s not worth a fiddler’s fart to the vendor if no one will buy it.
