Celtic’s new manager looks to be a solid realist.
Consequently, he knows that he can only play with the hand that the Parkhead board have dealt him.

This is a case of the world as he finds it and not the world as he would wish it.
Due to the memorandum of misunderstanding, the club squandered three precious months on Eddie Howe.

The Australian was appointed to the Parkhead job a whole forty days before the first competitive match.
He wasn’t hired by Copacetic FC, that’s for sure.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Taking 106 days to appoint a manager really is redolent of amateur hour.
I’m afraid this is the chaos you get when the club has an untitled director of football in supreme charge since 2003.
Only the Brendan interregnum saw all football matters being decided by a suitably qualified person.
Now tonight, Celtic will almost certainly have a back four with an average age of 21, including an 18-year-old centre half.

Brace for impact…
Yet the disparity in financial resources between Celtic and FC Midtjylland should make this tie a formality.
Of course, this level of unpreparedness is not new.
Indeed, it seems to be a seasonal shitshow that Celtic supporters are expected just to suck up as they see a scratch team trying to navigate through the most financially important games of the season.
Hopefully, this is the final episode of the Lawwell legacy.

This is the dumpster fire that Angelos Postecoglou is trying to address.
I wish him well as none of this is his fault.

For the avoidance of doubt…I gave up my treasured Season Book in protest at the actions of our Board.
Their track record is abysmal….and heads should roll…The support deserves so much more.
As for our new Manager….I like his honesty and down to earth attitude and I wish him all the luck in the world.
But as for last night…
We should have been out of sight over the two legs…but at the end of the day…the players let us down again.
Odsonne should have been nowhere near a jersey last night…His attitude sucks…I can’t wait to see the back of him.
As for Forrest…He’s never been a favourite of mine…far too inconsistent …and last night he blew it big time.
The truth of the matter is…we are nowhere near European standard…and are better out of it altogether.
Oh and if money is so important…Why doesn’t DD just pony up and plough plenty in ?
Hail hail.
Ange was right. A lot of the young players did absolutely the best they could and I see Dañe Murray being good in a couple of years, at least. That squad was threadbare but was merely the most obvious version of what we’ve seen for 6 or 7 years now. Celtic have no squad in July. Qualifiers coming early always makes this a risk. Yet we still try and do all our business in the summer. January should have been our main transfer window for the past 5 years.
I think Ange has something about him, but I fear he will need 3 transfer windows. Will the fans accept that?
Forrest misses a sitter,we all knew what was coming next. In ET,no fight, urgency or belief.Young boys tried their best.As Jim Lahey would say,”A shjtty shitshow let happen by the shithawks on the shitboard.”
Prescient, Phil, or just deja vu! Tonight’s debacle should strengthen our resolve to see the board cleaned out, and Desmond put on notice that his ownership is itself part of the problem (using Celtic as a toy for his kids to play with is both dangerous and reprehensible). I’m also concerned that Lawwell era hangers-on are still in play, while the team itself depends for goals on players, such as Odsonne, who no longer want to be here.
Grim watching, particularly as there is no shortage of talent on the pitch. Shamefully, though, a Celtic TEAM did not turn up, and that is the board’s and Dermot Desmond’s fault.
Another complete shambles Celtic out of 4 Champions Leagues in a row. And the opposition star player is a Centre Half we desperately need……….We have fallen to the worst place since 1999. Its worse than a shambles its active mismanagement. We had two kids at centre half and a right and left back who are nowhere near Celtic class and no decent goalie. Cant they see that ????????????? We are not even a decent Europa team now. I have nowhere else to express my disgust but this site.
Great summary Phil, Celtic are a shambles. The Rangers* Board have put a decent team on the pitch. The Celtic Board have actually dismantled a team. Disco lights, plans for hotels, exit Dembele, Armstrong Teirney Sinclair Boyata, Ajer, Frimpong. Then Brown, Simunovic, Lustig, Hayes Gordon and Forster not replaced adequately. Not backing Rodgers. That’s more than a whole team and £76m+ in transfers. It is a sporting and corporate disgrace. Leaders at Celtic “Hang Your Heads in Shame”. I just do not understand the strategy, there isn’t one.
Hi Phil
Yes you make you point very well Celtic seem to accept that a early exit from the European stage as acceptable and do not place enough emphasis in winning and at least getting to the Group stage in both competitions depending on results. That would give them a financial boost and go a long way in securing their Season.
Now that things have moved on hopefully a change of strategy will be put in place to change the previous approach .
“Ange’s Ashes” – I suppose someone had to say it.
Wise words, agree wholeheartedly. I’m happy enough with the change in direction but we’ll need to be a patient lot. Looking forward to a new era, good luck tonight to the bhoys, rooting for you Ange.
Bravo- totally accurate assessment.
