Better times ahead for Sevco

I’m told that Celtic’s unofficial director of football was not at Ibrox at the weekend.

If he had been there, he might have been interested in knowing that the city rivals who now dominate his club have a new investor.

It is worth stating at this juncture that because of my responsibilities down the Word Mines, I haven’t kept in touch with the usual suspects.

However, last night I caught up with one very well-placed Ibrox source.

Now, he didn’t have the entire picture, but this is what he could share with me.

“A hedge fund manager… from the Far East…new investment £16m-£20m….”

He told me that the Sevco High Command had made a pitch based on the riches of the UEFA Champions League Group Stages.

Of course, Sevco will be in the Champion’s Pathway of the qualification rounds for season 2021-2022.

Moreover, if they retain the SPFL title next season, then they will have automatic qualification to that promised land.

Meanwhile, the lights are being kept on with share confetti.

According to my guy, this had Mr David Cunningham King “seething”, as each new issue diluted the value of his own shareholding.

By the time his loan is formally due, I’m told that it will be, with interest, around £10.1m.

Consequently, it is just as well that the chaps in the Blue Room attracted this new investor.

For the avoidance of doubt, that is what success on the football field can create.

Of course, across the city, a certain tunnel vision on the bottom line rather missed that central truth.

Mr Dominic McKay has quite a task ahead of him and very little time to accomplish it.

I think that it is fair to say he’s been left quite a mess to clean up.

  1. Does anyone know what the deal is with yet another allotment of shares from Sevco?
This has been like one a month since November

    • As long as Rangers* have backers willing to invest and lose money then it just doesn’t matter how many share issues they have. They have a built a winning team on the pitch and now have access to more investors and CL money. Celtic have failed miserably …. ask yourself genuinely which Board would you rather have ?That is an interesting question. They were right to oust Ashley it has paid off massively on the pitch.
